Quiet Tension

This is a bit awkward.

But at least they got the logo correct.

Not much going on right now. PSU may not have their players muzzled, but they are sticking to a rote script. About as insulting as they get is the traditional, “just another game,” stuff. Or sticking to their “unrivaled” branding with every game is a big game type crap. Everyone is trying to keep it low key.

Hopefully, Coach Pat Narduzzi and the rest of the Pitt defensive coaches really have solved the issues with defending the wheel route.

I welcome all references to the 1999 Pitt-PSU game, even though Pitt lost. Simply because it always brings back a flood of memories of watching the game with my grandmother.

You can read the article from Joe Starkey on how beating PSU could be bigger then 13-9, but it just isn’t true. Heck, once you get past the headline you can see Starkey walking it back.

I’m beginning to think a Pitt victory Saturday at Beaver Stadium — the Panthers are 21-point underdogs — might constitute the biggest upset in school history, depending on the circumstances and how the season plays out.

There’s a lot of qualifications to make it so. But no. It wouldn’t. Let’s not even try to make it a thing.

Pitt was a wreck that year. With injuries. With the fans so down on the future. I mean, there was absolutely no hope for that game.

The Nits are a huge favorite this weekend. There’s a lot in their favor. But if Pitt wins, it hardly will seem inconceivable. Just a hell of an upset and another reminder of what rivalry games can produce.

I really didn’t think that we had a snowball’s chance in hell of winning in Death Valley last season. Went to the game anyway just for the Clemson game day experience. Little did we know what an experience we were in for. Miracles do happen & this IS our arch rival. H2P!

I remember the 1999 game well too Chas.

I was in 7th grade and my parents insisted on going to the now defunct store Ames in the middle of the third quarter. I said to my dad, “You are nuts. I’m not leaving.” Five minutes later, me and my younger brother were angry in the car. We arrived back home with five minutes left in the game and saw the blocked field goal.

As a kid in the mid 90’s, being a Pitt football and basketball fan was so demoralizing. I still can’t believe what we were blessed with during Jaimie Dixon’s tenure and I really appreciate the super occasional upsets that the football team pulls off.

Let’s kick some dairy butt this weekend.

Chances are slim that lightning will strike twice in the same place. However, I think Nard Dog keeps his lightning stored in a bottle so he can release it at Will – or in this case, at James from State College.

Thats some funny shit about the Pirates. Can’t get the hate up for Franklin, like I did for the hypocrite Paterno.

Oh man alcofan I’m not with you there. I actually said that about Bill O’Brien, mainly cause he didn’t pander to the cultists. But Franklin, I got no problem getting the hate up for him. Just the sight of his smug face turns my stomach…

Comment by Pap76 09.08.17 @ 7:57 am

I agree with Pap. Paterno you could hate but at least he had an air of honorability (long since tarnished, but…) Franklin is slimy from the first impression. You wouldn’t want to touch his hand to shake it.

Comment by KeyboardKev 09.08.17 @ 9:00 am

Correct, Kev. But why would anyone want to shake it in the 1st place?

Comment by Savannah Panther 09.08.17 @ 11:27 am

Savannah, when he says “Good game” after you beat him?

Comment by KeyboardKev 09.08.17 @ 11:30 am

The tension leading up to the game is killing me. I’ll be there in spirit. Hoping for an upset.

OSU safety Bundage just got ejected for targeting, making him ineligible for 1st half next week vs Pitt.

Was at 1999 game. Remember Arrington humping our punter and blocking FG. Thought we’d get respect after taking #6 PSU to the wire. Instead.. Pedos talked smack in the parking lot. I hate going there. But, I’ll be there tomorrow. H2P

We find out Saturday if Narduzzi really can coach Defense.

Or maybe it was about Dantonio all along?

Comment by PittofDreams 09.08.17 @ 11:38 pm

Duke with an electric sophmore qb. 299 yds passing 2 td and 69 yds rushing, 2tds against our friends from Northwestern.
