2pm, ACC Network affiliates or ACCNetwork Extra/WatchESPN

I will be much happier when the real ACC Network goes on the air (provided it doesn’t end up in a stalemate with carriers like the Pac-12 Network). The Big East had plenty of faults, but at least they didn’t lean on Raycom to distribute the non-ESPN games. It was easier and more consistent always being able to find Big East basketball games on all the RSNs.

Of course, by then streaming should be even better, clearer and more reliable than they are now (and streaming has markedly improved from last year to this year).

Pitt finished non-con play 11-2. That Duquesne loss will leave a mark on what had actually been a decent non-con schedule. 3-1 against teams in the top-7 conferences. In the RPI, Pitt is actually ranked #24 thanks to no 300+ RPI dogs to bring them down.

Notre Dame is also 11-2. They went 3-2 in games against top-7 conferences. Their RPI, though is at #49 thanks to playing some really bad teams in the non-con. But the Irish are also ranked #24 in the polls.

As reflective of the variety. Pitt fares much worse in the KenPom rankings (59th as of this morning). Those rankings take into account the margin of victory a lot more to reflect the overall strength of the offense and defense. As we know, Pitt’s defense is very weak. The fact that they have had to hold on for wins plays into a low defensive efficiency. Pitt only has two double-digit margin of victories in their 11 wins.

In some respects Notre Dame appears to be a slightly better version of Pitt. Both have very efficient offenses and suspect defenses while their tempos are in lower 50% of all schools. Notre Dame, though, is positioned a bit higher in all the categories.

Offensively the Irish are a really accurate shooting team, especially from outside. They don’t turn the ball over, and are average on rebounding.

On defense, ND will go for steals and turnovers. Their gambling does leave them open to be exploited in open looks and easy baskets.

The Pens moved the start time for their home game on Sunday from 1 until 5 to accommodate the Steelers (and their fans). Class organization in all respects. Compare to the Pirates last September.

GC, I am no longer a basketball season ticket holder, but I also loathed the 9:00 games. It is even a struggle to stay up and watch them, let alone attend.

I don’t think Penn State is quite the juggernaut they will be considered as this coming fall, but it will make for a fun lead up to the Pitt visit at the valley. They caught all the breaks imaginable this past fall but their arrogance cost them the Rose. Great opportunity for Pitt to establish themselves as the class of the state. Hurry up September!!!

PSU will be one of the favorites for the final 4 in football next year. It is going to be extremely difficult for Pitt to beat them this fall. Barkley may be the best running back in college football and McSorely is a very tough competitor at QB. Like Pitt, PSU’s defense is its weak link but the big joke conference should make it easy for PSU to represent the big joke in the final 4. Also, based on the last 2 weeks, the ACC has proven itself to be the best overall college football conference from top to bottom. 8-3 in bowls and 9-4 versus the SEC. I don’t fall for all the media crap about the SEC & big joke.

Only Jeter does any rebounding inside on either offense or defense.

Comment by Jackagain 01.03.17 @ 1:34 pm

Actually Young has the same number of rebounds as does Jeter 108. Young does play more minutes and is the leading scorer as well. If Jeter didn’t rebound, he would be of little value.

Comment by gc 01.03.17 @ 2:12 pm

It’s difficult for Young to offensive rebound when he is taking a lot of jump shots.

South Florida fired BB coach Antigua. FYI

Comment by Grizzly1 01.03.17 @ 4:34 pm

Don’t know what the circumstances were at USF, other than it’s a tough gig.

But this could be an opportunity to bring in Antigua as an ASST. Coach and use his recruiting talents in NYC. Which wasn’t a huge deal at USF and the AAC.
But could be for Pitt and the ACC.

Whoops Orlando’s program is being investigated for Academic Fraud by those super sleuths at the NCAA.

You know the ones who never issued any sanctions against the Tarholes for massive and lengthy Academic Fraud.

And gave back JoePedo’s wins and shorted the Pedo Cult’s powder puff sanctions.

Comment by EMel 01.03.17 @ 5:44 pm

Since Orlando tutored under Calipari at both Memphis and Kentucky……you don’t think….

nah…

Comment by EMel 01.03.17 @ 5:46 pm

Btw, Mike Young is 8th in the Country in Scoring.

Artis is #25.

Something that is never noted in either local anti-Pitt Toilet Paper of Record rag.

Fuck that toilet paper rag of a newspaper/media outlet. They are all Pedo lovers. All are Complicit. True mother fuckers…or more appropriately small boy enablers like Poopy Pants.

Tx Panther anyone What Rag is he talking about??? I want to know so i wont ever read it! H2P

Comment by Boo Boo #1 01.03.17 @ 9:46 pm

Take your pick. Both the Gazette and Trib are terrible. And our ‘flagship’ radio station is also a Pedo Propaganda machine.

Comment by TX Panther 01.03.17 @ 10:05 pm

Our new AD needs to talk with the editors and owners. Make them an offer they cant refuse. There are some bodies I wouldnt mind see floating in the Mon.

UVA tonite….gonna be a tough one.

They’re going to try and force us into a half court type of game I would imagine.

Really need an upset here, cause you can’t afford to lose 2 home games this early in the conf. season.

And it could really impact attendance down the road if we lose again.

Comment by EMel 01.04.17 @ 5:01 pm

The Cavaliers are also coming off a close loss.

They lost to #20 FSU, on Saturday. 58-60.
After beating #6 Louisville, a week ago tonite. 61-53

So you can see by the scores, we’re gonna see a low scoring Slogball type of game, most likely.

This Pitt team doesn’t exactly thrive in those type of games since we really don’t have much of a low post threat, other than Mike Young when he feels like it. Gonna need a big game from of course Young and Artis…but I think Jeter needs to score some points tonite inside.

Young is #1 in the ACC in scoring.
Artis is #3 in the ACC in scoring.

It would be nice if Stallings can figure a way to uptempo the game. but with UVA that is extremely difficult.

Comment by EMel 01.04.17 @ 5:07 pm

Note of interest.

UVA lost exactly the same way Pitt lost, last time out
FSU hit a 3 pointer with about 2 seconds left to win the game. And it was at home as well.
