(For Immediate Release)

CLARIFICATION ON TV CREW FOR NEW ERA PINSTRIPE BOWL

(Bristol, CT) Due to the number of questions, ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports, wishes to address the surprising number of questions that were directed to the ESPN Media Zone with regards to the announcing crew of the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Following the press release of the announcing crews for all of the 2016-17 college football bowl season, there was much reaction to Mike Golic and Mike Golic, Jr. serving as co-analysts in the booth with game caller Ryan Ruocco and sideline reporter Paul Caracaterra.

The combination of the co-host of ESPN’s morning radio show Mike & Mike in the Morning with his son is in no way a stunt or nepotism. Mike Golic is a well-respected voice in sports and we feel that Mike Golic, Jr. is a rising star in the broadcast of college football.

This decision was made with the full support of the New Era Pinstripe Bowl organizers and sponsors.

“When ESPN approached us with the idea of Mike Golic and his son working the game from the broadcast booth, we were very excited,” said Pinstripe Bowl Executive Director Mark Hozman. “The idea of two Notre Dame alum and partisans talking about Northwestern and Pitt seemed ideal.”

“Northwestern is located in a suburb of Chicago,” Hozman continued, “The epicenter of Notre Dame subway fans. The idea of not being able to escape Notre Dame references and discussions of Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly for even one game has to be a tremendous incentive to attend the actual event to avoid hearing such sparkling conversations.”

“For Pitt fans, Mike Golic only reads quick summaries of teams in the AP top-10 to effect a knowledge of college football. This year, that includes Penn State, who we fully expect him to confuse with Pitt during the game.”

“You don’t want to hear these morons? Buy a damn ticket,” added New York Yankees Chairman Hal Steinbrenner.

That is some weird stuff Chas.

This Bowl is a tremendous opportunity for Pitt students to go sight seeing in the Big Apple. Say what you will it is one of the wonders of the world, pretty amazing if you have never been.

Hopefully the University, would make an affordable package, bus ride, hotel, tickets, organized tours etc. What an opportunity for the students.

What a memorable experience for the kids.

For a lot of us the date of game makes it extremely difficult to attend. Hopefully there will be a lot alumni in New York, New,Jersey, Connecticut and the Philadelphia area who can make the short trip in the middle of the week. There will be fans traveling in from Pittsburgh and western PA, but is there is turnout of Pitt fans from nearby it certainly would get the numbers up.

The players are getting shafted pretty good themselves. Their swag package from the bowl is $550 worth of New Era gear. New Era really only makes hats. So while all the other bowls are getting electronics & other useful stuff, Pitt & Northwestern players get roughly 12 hats.

Nick, Good thing they’re not playing in the Poulan Weedwacker or the Papa Johns bowl. In past years they were actually sponsors of bowls. I don’t think too many bowls give out electronics, other than the play station people. That’s absolutely the last thing that any of care about. We want a a bowl that a good opportunity for the team and someplace that can provide a nice experience for the fans that make the trip. It’s my understanding that the Pinstripe Bowl does a good job of taking the players and coaches to interesting venues in New York City.

gc, I know we don’t get the students from Metro NYC as we did in my time. Yes, lately everybody is PSU. Our football coaching fiasco and leaving the Big East for BB did us bad. No question though, we needed the ACC.

Like Justinian I simply cannot swing the trip given the date and time. I would have gone if there would have been a few more days cushion from Christmas. That will impact some, hopefully not too many. And I do hope Yankee Stadium is sold out with Pitt fans. Having said all of that, pointing out the logistical challenges is not intended as a whine or complaint. It is nothing more than realistic observations regarding the venue. I have been a Yankee fan since 1958. Have been to Yankee Stadium multiple times including the new one. It is a very nice BASEBALL stadium with several upscale venues inside (Hard Rock, New York Steak, Delta Suite, etc.). The surrounding area is a dump. And that is putting it nicely. Stan’s Bar is about it and it would get an “F” from the Allegheny Health Department. Getting to and from Yankee Stadium is a nightmare. Parking is a couple garages then good luck. Traffic is, well, New York traffic. The subway is how most natives commute to the stadium. They’re more like mugger movers, crowded and filthy. Good luck getting on one after the game which will coincide with rush hour. I had to chuckle when I read an article in which somebody said you could drive from Pittsburgh to the game in six hours and be home by midnight. You have to take the Major Deegan Expressway over the GW Bridge (yes, that bridge of Chris Christie fame) at rush hour. You’ll be lucky to be in Teaneck, NJ by nine. And yes New York is fun to sight see and shop in. In June.

The B, D, and 4 train drop you off right at the stadium, what more could you ask for.

I can smell the stench of the City from here. At least NYC doesnt smell as bad in winter.

Tough to tailgate at this venue. Damn impossible.

gc, I certainly hope that the city’s 3rd best basketball team is ready to play tonight.
