Still basketball season, people. I know the new football schedule came out for the ACC yesterday. And seeing that Clemson game on there is a bit of a sight. But, this is basketball.

7pm. The assorted RSNs — Root Sports Pittsburgh, NESN, Fox Sports South and plenty of others.

Clemson has been very good at their sort-of-home arena this year.

Littlejohn Coliseum, their on-campus arena, is undergoing a $63.5 million renovation and won’t be available until next season. Instead. Clemson is playing its home games 50 minutes from campus in Greenville, S.C., at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

Clemson has earned the attention of every other team in the ACC with three home wins against ranked opponents — Louisville, Duke and Miami. Brownell said that was a case of a good team getting on a roll and playing consistently well for a couple of weeks in a row.

They’ve been off a week, but this is a good Clemson team. They play a sound, fundamental game. This was supposed to be a down year for the Tigers, but Brad Brownell is a very good coach.

Clemson plays at a very slow tempo. They make teams work on the defensive end, and are very patient on offense. Clemson will look to take a good amount of 3s. Their starters take the bulk of the minutes, as they aren’t that deep. If Pitt can get them in some foul trouble it will create some more opportunities. That means the frontcourt needs to attack — wisely — rather than settle for too many jumpers.

Pitt should have Sheldon Jeter back. Hopefully Sterling Smith will keep his strong shooting going from Saturday.

wbb – Paul Chryst was in town earlier this week to visit Phil as well.

I wonder if he stopped by to say hi to the Pitt players?

Weaver would be a very good get for Narduzzi.

here’s a blog from Werner listing all the DL commits and targets along with highlight films — pretty impressive. By the way, Hargrove is from the same high school as James Harrison.

Thanks, wbb. I keep getting pushed out of PP-G to a “subscribe” message.

Here’s everything you need to know about Phil Jurkovec.

The Kid has it ALL… and just a Sophomore.

I watched Jurkovec in a recent playoff game verse my nephew. He looked like a man playing against boys.

Didn’t Haystack Calhoun eat something like 3 dozen eggs and a slab of bacon for breakfast every day????? LOL

I just skimmed through the highlight film of all of our commits and remaining targets mentioned above in the PG link. To my untrained eye, Watts is the best prospect of the committed guys. He shows good quickness and energy. Wheeler looked pretty quick as well comparatively speaking. Now the guy that I think had the best film and was an absolute beast was Camp. We could really use him in this class. He was very explosive and physical in his tape. To me, some of the guys looked a little slow but they all have multiple P5 offers so what do I know.

And reading between the lines, the “big rumor” being mentioned I believe involves Sanders….just my guess from everything I’ve read. I still think very little chance of him flipping. I think they were trying to get him on campus this weekend and he was thinking about it but ultimately I don’t see it happening. No insider info – all speculation based on what I’ve read over the past several days.

I would not be surprised if one or more recruits from Pitt and Penn State do not send in their fax but rather wait to make sure……if it is PSU. …I will enjoy the squirming

Good news, Narduzzi has Hamlin rooming with…….Jordan Whitehead. Good move.

Comment by tedsptman 01.29.16 @ 2:47 pm

JJ, i thought the same thing. Patrick Jones actually looked quite athletic in open space, though. Camp looks like the real deal.. Explosive, strong, physical. Would be a huge get.

Comment by Pk 01.29.16 @ 2:53 pm

Jurkovec’s head coach is former Pitt QB/DB Eric Kasperowicz, so Narduzzi should get a fair shake with him.

Comment by alcofan 01.29.16 @ 3:03 pm

Jurkovec’s brother commits to play football at Duquesne. Hopefully the family wants the kids to stay local.

However, my guess is that Franklin had Hamlin rooming with two (maybe three) girls last weekend.

pmd, I thought they slept with the coaching staff? :O

Comment by tedsptman 01.29.16 @ 3:16 pm

tedsptman, Isn’t that what Franklin asked the victim in the testimony from the Vanderbilt rape case. Talking to her about getting a group of good looking girls together to “Help” in recruiting.

Comment by Justinian 01.29.16 @ 3:35 pm

Pk – I thought the same thing re Patrick Jones, looks very good.

Comment by 1618mt 01.29.16 @ 3:40 pm

Exactly, Justinian. To find what position they were best suited for. How much training they needed.

Wow. Why would Winfree be wavering because of Colorado?? Colorado?? Playoffs?? Seriously! That would not be good.

Comment by JJ 01.29.16 @ 3:49 pm

Those are the perks of SEC football.

Comment by Justinian 01.29.16 @ 3:54 pm

My wild ass rumor guess. Rashan Gary is visiting pitt. Thus may create wavering from watts or camp.

Comment by Tallahassee panther 01.29.16 @ 4:02 pm

On the defensive line recruit videos:

–Jones runs well; his size and quickness looks promising;
–Gilbert reminds me of a junior version of James Harrison; built like a tank and great motor;
–Hargrove has nice size but I don’t see the quicks for defense – looks like a future OT or somebody like Soto if he stays on defense.
–Wheeler moves well, looks strong;
–Watts moves really well, looks promising;

–Getting Camp would be awesome – could see him playing right away.

—What I liked about all these DTs is that they move well enough to have a decent size tackle radius – I think this is a problem for Jarrett, he just can’t cover much ground unless he loses some weight and gets more mobile.

Go Pitt.

Ole Miss in big trouble. What, they didn’t get all those recruits legally!! I’m shocked, shocked I say!!

Comment by JoeKnew 01.29.16 @ 5:32 pm

@tallahassee put down the crack pipe.

Comment by Bj 01.29.16 @ 5:40 pm

I mean, the recruits didn’t come for the beautiful campus, the education, and the stadium?? Why would they ever have to do illegal shit down south?? I’m stunned!

Comment by JoeKnew 01.29.16 @ 5:43 pm

Maybe Tino gets a forfeit victory in his last game at the Iron Bowl

Comment by BigB 01.29.16 @ 5:49 pm

I don’t want to sound racist but if there’s no white kids on the football team starting makes me wonder what’s going on in the background…

Comment by BigB 01.29.16 @ 5:50 pm

BigB, the starting QB, LT, and a LB are white. Look at the NFL, it’s the same there as well.

Comment by tedsptman 01.29.16 @ 6:06 pm

White men can’t jump… Not enough fast twitch muscle fibers… That’s a fact!!!

Comment by BigB 01.29.16 @ 6:14 pm

If it takes cheating to do well in recruiting, how is Narduzzi doing it in his first full class here?

I’m getting tired of that excuse. Barnes needs to upgrade Dixon’s assistants and start getting some players to come here.

Narduzzi is recruiting very well IMO to a team that has no on campus stadium and has been bad to mediocre for 30 years…Dixon is officially out of excuses as to why he can’t bring in players to play in the ACC, to a team with a recent winning history, and plays in front of rabid fans (the Zoo) in a brand new facility.

And if the better recruiting assistants can’t sell Pitt/Dixon, then it’s time (in a couple years) to get rid of Dixon too. That will be proof that it’s Dixon, not Pitt that’s holding us back.

Reed – nice one. Wasn’t expecting that. I was figuring it was going to be something about weed!

Comment by JJ 01.29.16 @ 8:40 pm

Was reading some interesting stuff. Seems like good chance Henry Miller flips to Miami and a chance on Winfree too. That would suck. Thought we had a strong chance of holding everyone but not looking likely now.

Comment by JJ 01.29.16 @ 9:20 pm

@Jackagain….Amen…Amen….Amen! Exactly.
