The last two years, Pitt and Duke have combined for some wild offensive games. Don’t think that will be what we see today. Duke has been doing more with the defense, and their starting QB may not play.

Pitt’s offense has been a bit up-and-down. Only two games saw the offense hit 30 points or more (vs. 1-A opponents). Two games have seen Pitt with under 20 points. Everything else has been somewhere in the 20s.  Just not seeing Pitt explode for around 50 points.

It’s a nooner on ESPNews.

Both teams are 6-3, but Pitt is ahead of Duke in the Coastal standings with a 4-1 conference record to the Blue Devils’ 3-2.

In Hoops Games, lots of huge upsets:

Western Illinois stunning Wisconsin.

UCLA drops overtime game at home to Monmouth.

NC State falls by 17 (!) points at home to William & Mary.

North Florida goes on the road and scores 93 points against Illinois.

Georgia, another victim of a home OT loss, couldn’t beat Chattanooga.

Belmont plays Marquette wire to wire, wins an entertaining opener.

On the Pitt fight song its ok to substitute Penn St sucks but only when we are playing them. Ped. St should not be a consideration while we are facing any other opposition. I had a girlfriend from NC attending a Pitt game in Pittsburgh for the first time , the band is playing the fight song, she hears Penn St sucks, and turns to me saying Pitt’s not playing Penn St , why is the crowd focusing on them when they should be concerned with today’s opponent. She was right.

Lol. All good. Yeah, I’m a year older, 39. I was reading it and was like wtf? Misunderstanding. Pap is 1st 3 letters of my long ass Italian last name and 76 for the year I was born. Just a coincidence last time Pitt was truly it…

Bonjeur folks, great game! Great victory.

Missed on my prediction just by a skoach. Had Pitt winning 30-17!! Wish we had Miami next week after their shellacking today. Bama looks tough on the ground and defensively.

Brief pause for the frenchies and all that are suffering today. This activity will be commonplace unless we eradicate it now.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 11.14.15 @ 7:34 pm

Took me a while to comment after the word traffic events of last night. First, the religion of Peace strikes again, then the of wet court game. Very impressed with the Panthers though, especially since Artis missed most of the first half with full trouble and Ododa the same forcing us to play Maia who obviously isn’t ready yet, and we still wind up leading by 2 at the half. Amazing.

Regarding today, what a difference a head coach makes. This staff’s ability to make halftime adjustments is of the charts. I think our vulnerability this year is exposed when we play teams that have big time WRs. Last year’s House defense would’ve given up 30 pts to Duke in the second half alone.

Hail to Pitt

Spell correct ughhhh. I meant tragic

Comment by 1618mt 11.14.15 @ 7:54 pm

Watching Memphis and Houston. 2 good young coaches in Herman and Fuentes. The American or the conference formerly known as The Big East if you prefer, has some legit teams. Navy, Houston, Memphis, Temple, and Cincy is usually decent. But other than Cincy, because Tuberville’s wife is from there and he’s up there in age, and maybe Navy, will have these coaches long.

Thank God Pitt landed in the ACC. Can you imagine the crowds for a Pitt/Tulane clash in bad weather? I personally shudder at that thought.

There is enough money and ACC Coastal is a cushy landing spot, if Duzz is indeed the man, we can keep him and be in for some good times!!

Hail to Pitt!!!!

Comment by Pap76 11.14.15 @ 7:58 pm

I did like what I saw from Pitt B-ball on TV. All I ask Coach is to let the players play. Yes, Defense should be stressed but not at the expense of offense and taking some risks. B-ball is a game of athletes who can drive, shoot and create their own shots. Its not about stiffs who can defend and play a slow tempo 50’s style game. Recruit to shoot was Ben Howland’s mantra.

I will drink a nice French wine tonight and pray that our American way of life is not impacted by the events in France and that these mother fuckers dont show up at a college tailgate strapped in TNT and carrying AK-47’s. Because if these Islamist’s ever do, I highly we suggest we NUKE the camps in the countries of SYRIA and IRAQ and LIBYA. France has declared WAR. We need to join them. Enough of my political hellbent. H2P!

We would be undefeated if the coach would make his adjustments before the game starts and maybe have a wild celebration party going into the first quarter as well as going into the fourth quarter.

Comment by BigB 11.14.15 @ 8:43 pm

Looking back at today’s keys to victory:

58 rushing attempts vs 23 pass attempts
T.Boyd and J.Whitehead as part of the run game
QO doing a better job of pass blocking
Huge time of possession advantage
D holding Duke to 3 points in the 2nd half

Now we shift the focus on to Louisville.

Crack the Cardinals!

Heading home I passed the Islamic center in Main St., Durham… made me wonder how anybody with a brain could be in a religion or whatever you call that where one group Nick wants to kill the other and the whole group would really like to destroy the world and run it …if Obama brings 200,000 of them over here he needs kicked in the nuts

Comment by BigB 11.14.15 @ 8:47 pm

With each week, Pitt’s losses look better. UNC is legit. Someone please explain to me how an 8-1 UNC was only ranked 23rd in this week’s playoff rankings, behind five 7-2 teams, including a Northwestern team that lost 38-0 to Michigan and 40-10 to Iowa.

Comment by Iron Duke 11.14.15 @ 8:57 pm

When we have ‘leadership’ and media declaring terrorist actions as “extremist” and not acknowledging the source of the problem, then we’re asking for trouble. Obama is a sissy and he’s being taken advantage of. Most of the European leaders are just as bad. Things will get a lot worse before there’s a chance for a real battle to be waged.

Back to the game- kudos to the OL. It was their pass protection (and Challingsworth’s heroics) that allowed big plays to develop.

Comment by 1618matt 11.14.15 @ 9:00 pm

I love Stan Savran, but DiPaola didn’t need to talk to Stan to learn that today’s game was pivotal for Pitt, all he had to do was read the Blather.

Comment by Iron Duke 11.14.15 @ 9:01 pm

So. Florida is killing Temple 31-10 at the half.

Comment by Jackagain 11.14.15 @ 9:11 pm

The NHL is almost unwatchable anymore. It used to be that there were only a few boring trap teams like the Devils, now every team plays that style. I just realized I’d rather watch any college football game on right now than this god awful Pens v. Devils game. I’d almost rather watch soccer.

Comment by Iron Duke 11.14.15 @ 9:14 pm

We can run more when the game is tight. By not falling behind by double digits, we could play to our strength. Real nice game and am glad we got out of the first half as we did because I thought it could have been worse, score wise.

The Peterman TD pass to Challingsworth was not a good one. Against an above average CB, it’s an interception, but we don’t play woulda, coulda, shoulda on the Blather.

I also think that Artie really struggled today (again). I like where we are at as a team however. I didn’t watch the Louisville game, but I think we should be evenly matched against them. I don’t like Petrino! He just looks dirty.

Start preparing for Louisville tonight!

Comment by dhuffdaddy 11.14.15 @ 9:18 pm

#5 Iowa and #6 Baylor are both in tight, tough games midway through the 2nd qtr. Iowa is beating Minn 17-14 and Baylor is losing 13-6 to Oklahoma.

Comment by Erie Express 11.14.15 @ 9:20 pm

Louisville is a heavy pass first team. Their rushing offense is ranked ~ 91st. Our D will need to pressure the QB.

The Cardinals barely beat UVA today giving up 31 to the Hoos and scoring 38 to win.

In the Coastal title chase, UNC plays at VTech in HC Beamer’s final home game. The place should be a sellout and hopefully loud.

Comment by Erie Express 11.14.15 @ 9:33 pm

Any chance, Pitt gets back into the top 25 after this win?

Comment by PittPT 11.14.15 @ 10:30 pm

UNC deserves a lot more respect in the ratings, but our chance of returning to the 25 with 3 losses are slim. Looks like UNC should give Clemson all they can handle in the championship game. If we win one or two more we should get a nice bowl game. Especially if the teams that beat us keep winning.

Zach Gilbert may have been a visitor today at the Duke game along with his cousin. Not only did he see a Pitt victory, but a solid victory from a team on the rise.

As a bonus, it was reported by one of the embedded blather reporter at the game, the Duke football stadium was only about half full. Half full stadiums shouldn’t scare young Gilbert. Come help us return to glory young man and help fill the seats.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 11.14.15 @ 11:49 pm

Coming into this season, I felt the Panthers needed 8 games. That was before the season ending injury to James Conner. Now with a win at home against Louisville they can get there. Pitt still has to ready to play next week and they need to finish the season strong. That includes playing well in the 1st half. Let’s hope they can win the last two games.

Comment by Justinian 11.15.15 @ 3:17 am

Louisville will have good overall team speed. They have some young and exciting talent.

Pitt has a more disciplined and patient team.

Louisville has more experience at the HC position.

Pitt will have the two most talented players on the field in T.Boyd and J.Whitehead.

Pitt is playing at home at Pitt Stadium on Heinz Field.

Louisville is playing for 2nd place in the Atlantic Division.

Pitt is still in the hunt for the Coastal title.

I give Pitt the slight edge at home.

Pitt wins 35-31 in front of 50k loud and proud fans. The mid-field logo continues with slight improvements. The ACC refs are confused on which team they’d like to see win. They settle on Louisville and get booed relentlessly all game long.

HTP!

dhuff – that Peterman pass to Challingsworth – matched up against Richard Sherman – would have been intercepted and taken 103 yards for a TD to win the National Championship game for the bad guys…

It was a fine pass Peterman made while rolling out and he put it high enough so the taller Challingsworth could use his arms to make a good catch. That pass hit a 2′ diameter window thrown 28 yards in the air… gimme a break. Take a look at the 35s mark on in the video

On prior comments.1.Sandusky still gets a pension because of a screwed up pension law in Pa. which is being revised at this moment, not because of any political pull.2.Less ridiculous negativity on here would be better. 3.Get rid of the political correctness on chants and have fun.4.This game was good and the hits Pitts D was putting on Duke’s players out of the gat wasn’t mentioned by anyone here. That’s one reason we won.5 Pitt Played well but still has to keep improving and I commented earlier this year that Pitt needed more speed to run some of those around the end plays. Looks like they found a way to do it this year with Whitehead. Should be 8/4 and with luck a 9/3 season. p.s. Comment by Hillgrove during game Rowell has played for 5 HCs at Pitt . We are lucky we still have a football team.

Comment by pitt 60 11.15.15 @ 11:11 am

Top 25? I guess it would be nice, but I’m more interested Pitt’s sense of returning dynasty. Great things to come. As Pitt 60 notes, we’re lucky we have a team of any caliber. Much less, I would add, one that is showing us hints of future greatness. A couple more Whiteheads and Boyds and a bunch of solid coachables–with HCPN, we’ll be very very good.
