Football Media Report; Nov 13

Filed under: Football — Reed @ 4:48 pm

Here is this morning’s media recap for the day:

Post-Gazette:

Woodland Hills alumni continue football careers together at Pitt  There’s a reason “Woody High” carries that type of weight in the community. At the Wolvarena, there’s a wall with every Woodland Hills standout who ever played Division I football — including NFL stars Steve Breaston and Jason Taylor, and former Pitt players such as Lousaka Polite and Shawntae Spencer.

“It’s just like a pipeline,” Price said. “Being with these guys is the reason I came here, just to be with family and the people I know.”

Pitt Football Chat Transcript: 11.12.15  Here is my favorite Q&A of all time.  Carey Z: Who is Pitt’s next verbal commitment?  Sam Werner: You.

Trib Review:

Conner Not Ready to Return  Duh!

Rowell Maps out Pitt’s Agenda  “Players meetings are for bad teams,” he said. “To get up in front of a players’ meeting and start shouting stuff is a distraction.” He has what he believes is a better solution: “Everybody needs to do their job.” Someone get that man a mirror.

Pitt cornerback Maddox will face another tough test against Duke  “It’s a challenge. It’s fun,” he said. “That’s how you want to get to the pros. You have to play against the top guys.”  Fuller victimized Maddox on two of his three touchdown receptions, but Narduzzi said self-assuredly, “I wouldn’t change a thing.”  You haven’t in nine games so why start now Pat?

ESPN:

Matt Galambos Finds inspiration.  But misses the ball carrier again.

More Jordan Whitehead… and cowbell, everyone needs more cowbell.

The Pitt News

Chaney’s not the only guy people are mad at.  Other’s have it worse.

Here’s four articles.  Have fun.

Pittsburgh City Paper   (Holy Hell!)

Feels good to root for Pitt again.

We’ll try one every day or two but don’t bank on it…

Something like this…

I’d like more cowbell and Whitehead for sure…wouldn’t mind Will Ferrell dancing crazily on the sideline either. I’m thinking Whitehead takes his first or second carry about 60 yards and then Chaney tells Duzz he ain’t giving him back. He looked very good vs ND and I have no problem with Amara, Webb, Pitts, and maybe Mitchell or Briggs at safety on the two deep.

Give Ollison some carries and split the rest between James and Hall. Those three have talent but nobody there has claimed the job…Ollison looks good but not great, James is quick but doesn’t seem to run to daylight, and Hall looks pretty unsure out there so far. Maybe all get better next year but gotta win now baby, give the rock to Whitehead and let him bust loose on Duke. 35-17 Pitt. HTP!!

If he gets 5-10 carries in the first half, he may put up 100 with that, and then his D days are loooong gone.

Comment by Matt N. 11.13.15 @ 5:16 pm

My big fear Matt -then who will tackle?

Comment by rkb 11.13.15 @ 5:57 pm

I think we find out tonight if either of the two new centers can play.

Need one of the running backs to have a huge day tomorrow.

Also to hit their QB hard and often, whoever he is.

Earthquake reported off the southwest coast of Japan. As of now the hoops game will not be affected.

Comment by Nick 11.13.15 @ 6:03 pm

Whitehead is Superman !! He has the potential to be the best player at Pitt since Dorsett and maybe the best player in college football.

Kept my eye on him all game last week. He truly is superhuman.

Comment by Dan 72 11.13.15 @ 6:07 pm

Agreed Dan 72, but the guy you don’t care for has two all time career records and has a pretty good shot finishing second to Tony Dorsett in all-time career yardage. Albeit a distant second.

Pretty amazing considering he is on his third QB, third position coach and 2nd head coach.

Whitehead should make the all-time list for career tackles as a freshman. (If they don’t move him to offense) just joking. He has 72, Tumulty at #5 with 85. Ramon Walker 1st with 131, but he was a redshirt freshman.

I wouldn’t judge the bigs too harshly after tonight. I know they’re vets – but the Zags have the biggest, and according to Bilas, one of the best front courts in the country.

I think all the bigs are in for a long night. Gotta try to transition them right out of the gym.

Comment by BostonsCommon 11.13.15 @ 6:33 pm

Whitehead is special but the question is will he be special now the secret is out?!?!? Teams can prepare for him and I bet limit him so use him as a decoy.

Paris terrorist attacks brings things into perspective. Hail to our troops! May all innocents be kept safe and may those who feel compelled to take otherwise innocent lives in the name of their ideology, whatever that misguided concept be, may you find your final reckoning in hell.

Comment by Dr. Tom 11.13.15 @ 7:09 pm

The world simply cannot stand by and allow this to continue.

Bless us all.

Dr. Tom — amen.

rkb — I really liked Amara last year and figured he’d start anyway, alongside Mitchell, and they’d put Whitehead at cornerback…shows what I know huh? But Webb, Pitts, and Amara are all pretty talented and given how our offense is struggling to score points vs better teams, I think we have to put him on O and let him loose, and keep rotating our other DBs till we find a good combo. Maybe put Pitts as a nickel and give Lewis or Briggs a start at CB, or play all three safeties for help?
