Some last minute family issues abruptly intruded on the weekend, keeping me from getting to Pittsburgh this weekend. That forces me to watch at home on what should be a perfect day for football. Even with a 12:30 start time. Frustrating. Very frustrating.
Big game today. Homecoming. First home game in over a month. A conference and divisional opponent. A very winnable game. Not to mention lots of recruits on hand.
It says something about the change in mindset with the fans towards this team, new coach, new staff and just general feeling of renewal for the athletic department that it doesn’t feel like Pitt is going to find a way to blow the opportunity and the game.
Hail to Pitt.
Now he got to pass him over again.
Proving to himself, he was right all along.
Egos are a terrible thing.
He is taking a leave of absence.
Enjoy 4-1 people. It could be worse
I don’t think there will be many complaints at that point.
Today, the complaints are legitimate. Sorry to those who want all positive, lovey, dovey postings. Go write a note to your significant other…
Back smash mouth football please!

While I love the debate, there is some serious negativity on this board this season. I just don’t get it. We haven’t been perfect and yes there are still things to work out and there is always room for improvement, but some of the serious negativity guys here are just mentally draining.
How about this…we quit dragging up all the negativity of the past and look at the game at hand. I’m fine with the coulda, shoulda, woulda…but to go back to OCJC past at Arkansas with the hate to skew the view drives me nuts.
Again, I have nothing against CV and nothing against NP, I feel they both have had there moments. RIGHT NOW…NP is just slightly better. CV is always an injury (god forbid) or a horrible game by NP away from coming back in as the guy. I’d love to see him pass a few series as well, but that still won’t fix all this candy a$$ negativity that continues to spew here.
We are 4 and friggin’ 1 right now. Let’s get behind this team and support them, get out there and cheer them on, and stay positive in various social medial forums as you know somehow it gets back to recruits. The stadium looked a bit yellow yesterday, but I swear that crowd on tv sounded pretty darn loud when UVa was backed up or on key plays.
I commend all those going to Tech next week. Have fun in Atlanta..I was in Milleium Park area a few years back and found a pretty cool German restaurant right there that had some good food & german brews.
Enjoy the city and HAIL TO PITT!
MOVE On ALREADY!!!!!!!!
I want to start the conversation about when Conner comes back in a Panther uniform. We beat GT on Saturday, and Conner plays against Duke.
Did you see him on the sideline yesterday? He looked like he wanted to ask Coach to put him in now! He’s still into this Pitt team & season.
I did see Conner, hopefully the Drs. give him the go ahead. What a boost that would be.
Are you concerned about Chaney’s ego or your own? You have a seemingly desperate need to appear right.
If Weah and Orndoff don’t drop passes yesterday, Peterman finishes 19/24, with something approaching 275 yards and 3 touchdowns with no picks.
Peterman isn’t playing with Conner. He’s playing with a guy who was a third string back heading into the season. He’s also not playing with two seniors on the OL.
Emel, I know you’ve been stressing it with your posts, but you can’t measure the success or failure of the offense purely on Boyd’s YPC.
If you’re going to do that, then we should also look at Orndoff’s and Holtz’s YPC and total production year over year. I finally saw something that Upitt posted with which I totally agree! Use the TEs. They are studs.
I do agree that it’s self-defeating to play Voytik and not let him pass. It also seems disruptive to only let him enter the game for a play at a time. If they insist on bringing him in, let him play a series and let him run plays that suit his skills like read option, rollouts and bootlegs. That would amount to a complete change up over Peterman.
Artie Rowell better learn how to snap in the pistol if they’re going to continue to operate out of that formation. I think there were at least three that went over Peterman’s head or almost went over Petermans head.
Good energy yesterday from the fans. Good energy from the players. I think it hurt the D that Grigsby was hurt on the first series.
It finally started clicking this week too. Weah dropped an EASY TD and they were going to punch another one in until Ollison dropped the rock. The strip sack TD on NP is what it is. Shit happens. Great play by the UVA D there.
—-We have great resources at TE in Holtz and Orndoff and we should be hitting them with short DOWN-THE-FIELD throws to convert the short 3rd downs. Who could cover Orndoff on a 10 yard throw down the field while they’re doubling TB? The TEs run down the field, stop and turn around, or run a down and out – it’s not rocket science (watch Heath Miller’s pass patterns).
And if you roll the QB out, all the better.
Go Pitt.
1. Bill Fralic was given some alumni letter with other Pitt sports alum. Bill seemed to receive a great cheer. When they interviewed him, it happened right after the QB fumble/INT/pick 6 – Bill was not impressed and voiced his displeasure.
2. Darrel Revis was on hand and the announcer made it a point to give him a shout out with the camera on him. Awesome guest list…
3. The piped in music was toned down, but was a better mix than in the past. Two from Ozzie Osbourn – Crazy Train and another that I forgot the name of – all seemed well timed to fire up the crowd.
4. In the 4th qtr, the fans in my section were all standing except one UVA fan and Pedo State jerk. (Oops, too negative?)
5. Also in the 4th qtr, when the Panther Pit was rocking loudly and UVA had the ball inside their 5 yard line, a TO was called by their QB – D.Render headed toward the student section with his arms up, showing his appreciation. The Ref came over and shoved him to the Pitt sideline. These players know this year that the fans matter. (Opposite of last year under former HCPC).
6. At the start of the 4th qtr, the entire team came onto the field and began jumping up & down around the coaches – they knew it was time to focus and finish well. The video screen showed a hand shot of one of our players holding up four fingers – the crowd went nuts.
7. When the game ended, the team exchanged pleasantries with the enemy and worked their way down to the student section to celebrate while the band played the VICTORY song. Biz and Holtz jumped up in the stands and sat in the front row of the student section.
8. As my wife and I were walking down the ramp to exit Heinz Field, the fans began chanting “Let’s go Pitt”. Then came the best of all – the chant of “Penn State $U(K$”.
Day at Heinz Field with 45,000 Pitt fans – Priceless…
HTP!
I just wonder if the students ever figure out that one quarter of football may not be worth a pepsi and a bag of chips.
Personally, I don’t think our coach would give us a vote either – but we’ll see. We need to beat GT and redeem last year’s debacle. That needs to be our focus – not the stupid polls right now. Keep winning, one game at a time and they can’t keep us from the rankings.
HTP!
If Pitt has zero votes, does that mean we are considered the third best D1 team in PA.
Come on man!
Pitt has played three P5 teams so far – Temple & Pedo State have played two P5 teams combined.
The Panthers didn’t fold as previous Pitt teams have done after a big victory. The Panthers stood tall — or, at least, they didn’t bow their heads — in the face of an opponent trying to rally to victory.
“They got a pass on us and all of a sudden, the kids start to go, ‘Oh no. Here we go again,’ ” Narduzzi said. “That’s our job to make sure they don’t say that. We’re not going back that way. We’re not taking that route.”
Tight end Chris Clark, who is looking to transfer from UCLA, also was a Pitt guest. He visited Syracuse last week and might return to the Carrier Dome for Pitt/Syracuse on Oct. 24.
I have to say, it must be nice, to crawl out from under one’s rock every so often and take pot shots at those of us that bear all on here and express our opinions.
Most of the guys and girls that read and don’t comment much, are pretty respectful of that.
But then again we do get our share of trolls too.
Be well regardless. I’m assuming you went to Pitt.
– If Blewitt doesn’t miss the 2 foot putt .. or HCPC centers the ball on the previous play vs Duke
– If the defense had any concept … or HCPN doesn’t hire House, vs UNC
– If Boyd doesn’t drop a pass .. or Pitt doesn’t muff on 2 different onside kicks, vs Houston
Fact is, this year’s team actually has a clue on defense … unlike last year’s team … all which contributes to wins.
As previously stated, I’m OK with Peterman at QB especially with the offense that is being run … but I don’t understand this concept that all of a sudden Voytik is an incompetent. For the 2nd part of last season, the offense was pretty much all we had.
Even though there has been adversity and Pitt misadventures in every game this season, Pitt has prevailed as the victor 80% of the time. The “we aren’t going back there” comment made in his post game interview speaks volumes to the attention that Coach is paying to changing the cultural mindset of this team.
The mind leads and the body follows applies to the student “body” as well. Coach Narduzzi called out the students for being lazy about closing out games in a blanket email sent out before Homecoming. He got the PantherPitt to respond to his challenge and the Twitter buzz after the game reflected the feeling that the student body positively impacted the game when Pitt fumbled at the goal line down at their end of the field. The noise from them influenced the game and helped create the Pitt safety IMO.
Getting the crowd to understand how THEY can produce a home field advantage is huge! Coach Narduzzi and AD Barnes are on task about this. It will be very interesting in how our Thursday nite crowd responds to this novel concept of influencing the on field results by their support of the Panthers via showing up, staying the course for the entire game, making noise while there and celebrating with the team after we beat the tar out of the Tar Heels!
As Bob Dylan sang many years ago, the times they are a changing.
The fact is, and this has been discussed a ton also, Narduzzi and his staff came into a mediocre mostly losing football program and said they were going to shake things up and start with a clean slate. That is what new coaches due and mostly what they are hired to clean up.
With that they looked at the QB position and saw that, along with other positions, would be a place that might be able to do that.
You feel Voytik is the best thing to happen in a long time. I also think he’s pretty good but the difference is I have been saying since he started last season that he wasn’t indispensable. You obviously disagree. So did the staff and went out to get a QB they wanted on the roster also.
I don’t believe Voytik played himself out of a job at all. I do know that everyone was excited by Peterman’s play in camp and that people close to the program realized that a QB change was most probably being made. The staff, especially Chaney, wanted someone he knew and apparently trusted to run his offense… which really had nothing to do with Chad Voytik.
There were only two players on the team last year that were too good not to play – Conner and Boyd. That’s it. Everyone one else fell under the ‘blank slate’ Narduzzi kept talking about because when you have a losing team changes have to be made in many areas, personnel is one of those.
