The Pitt Media Dept. has been sending out some press information that most Pitt fans don’t get to see firsthand, so here are some interesting links, info and videos that you might enjoy.

First off, The ACC media guys made public a booklet you may want to keep handy when we are discussing Pitt, our ACC opponents and our chances of a conference championship this season.

It is the 2015 ACC Football Media Guide and is available as linked.  Pitt’s information is on pages 77 – 80 and all the teams are covered very extensively. It is an excellent piece of work from the ACC and covers everything imaginable.

Here are some other important and interesting links sent out by Mike Finn, who is the Associate Commissioner for ACC Football Communications.

Here are the Week One tailored press releases:

The Series: Pitt leads 2-1 overall and at home The Coaches: Bo Pelini: 1st year at Youngstown State; 67-27 (8th year) overall Pat Narduzzi: 1st year at Pitt and overall Last week: Season opener for both teams

Of note: The fourth meeting of the series find two head coaches making their debuts at their respective schools, as Pat Narduzzi steps in at Pitt and Bo Pelini at Youngstown State … Both coaches are Youngstown, Ohio natives, and Narduzzi started one year at linebacker as a freshman at Youngstown State (where his father Bill was head coach) before transferring to Rhode Island …

Narduzzi most recently spent eight seasons at Michigan State as defensive coordinator … Pelini is coming off a seven-year stint as head coach at Nebraska, where none of his teams won fewer than nine games …

Former NC State QB Shane Montgomery is the Penguins’ offensive coordinator. Ones to watch: Youngstown State DE Derek Rivers had 14 sacks in 2014, the third-most by a player in school history and the most by a Penguin in a regular season

Reed… You have given us a lot of good information to read that should keep us busy for a while… Time for a long weekend for you… Hail to Pitt

Comment by BigB 09.03.15 @ 6:07 am

We are still tied for first place in the Coastal!!

Keep up the great work fellas. Our qb was not ranked as having the highest passer efficiency rating. Looks like Clempson and Miami QB had high ones but didn’t have a lot of attempts. I love stats because they are just so misleading!

Thanks Reed and Hail to Pitt. It would be nice if we could type Pitt in script on here!! Will be cheering on NC tonight versus USC.

Bo Pelini is the BIG EQUALIZER in this Game.

You’re talking about a Guy who basically won 7 out of 10 Games during his tenure at Nebraska.

Couple that with the fact that Youngstown has Returning Starters in key positions.

Don’t know how anyone can be “resting easy” with this one.

Questionable if Bisnowaty will play.

Certainly better to have him available than not. But, truth be told, Bisno has always been OVER-RATED in my opinion. Vulnerable to the OUTSIDE RUSH which makes him a bit of a liability at Left Tackle.

Bookser and O’Neill are both BETTER ATHLETES with BRIGHTER FUTURES at the position.

2 days away…I’m starting to get all fired up. Looking forward to our first game under Duzz.

PoD – I have had similar reservations about Biz when he goes against anyone with some quickness. I hope he is better this season with the experience he has gotten.

But can the Panthers win this game starting two never-played-before offensive linemen? Should be interesting. I’ll be on the edge of my seat…

Go Pitt.

Thanks Reed, Interesting how the local writers didn’t choose to reference this closing remark by HCPN from the ACC Press Conf: “You know, we want to get him (Peterman) in early in the Youngstown game this weekend and get his feet wet and see what he’ll do under pressure.” This is something many of the Pitt faithful have been preaching at the beginning of each season, “get the back-up QB some meaningful playing time early to see what he can do.”

Four real games this weekend, NC vs SC, VA vs UCLA, LOUIS vs AUB, VA TECH vs tOSU. Good measuring sticks for the ACC.

Interesting that Pitt, Syracuse career leaders are not included, before joining the ACC. I guess that is fair but hurts a little.

I guess most fans and the media, do not think that two neophyte O-Tackles is a big story. I don’t remember us, or any team starting out that way. If it works out well, I think it is a huge story. Especially since YSU has two really good pass rushers.

Agreed POD. Been pushing the fact that we can’t look past any opponent on our schedule for a few months now.

Our depth equals their starters in my opinion.

Biz to me should be the one two slide inside because of footwork and clutching issues. Once he gets his hands on a defender, he is fine, but often struggles with that. Avery Moss will cause him problems with pass protection. As a road grader, I love his skill set. Our OL sets up well for the future with O’Neill, Bookser, Burger Jones Smith, Grimm, Herndon and Officer. Paulina apparently just had surgery but expect him to redshirt this year and be our center (if he gets healthy)once Officer goes to NFL. Would be great to add in two top prospects and I like the kid from Ohio who has Pitt in his final 2.

The other main area of concern is our 2-5 receivers creating separation for our qb’s. YSU has about 5 db transfers from MSU, Miami, FL, Nebraska, N.Illinois and USF. They are big DB’s. This may be a big game for our TE’s.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 09.03.15 @ 9:02 am

Am real concerned about this game because of regular starters out, western Pa.kids on YSU and Pellini factor. Don’t forget his days under Sabin at LSU. I know one guy who was really hoping Pitt would hire him before they announced Wanny hire in “05”.Thought he would be great for Pitt.He knows how to win.Hate these 2nd tier team games. They are lose, lose situations. If you win you were supposed to .If you lose, what a failure. Thanks for all the links Reed, your usual great job.

Could be a shaky start. Obviously trying to find the five best healthy guys, which will help down the road. But there is this game on Saturday.

Funny, YSU plays RMU next week.

Our WR’s need to get off the line, at least Ford has size and strength and some experience.
Going to be interesting to see which ones of the other five show up, get open and make catches. Expect a lot of quick openers and roll outs. Tight End play will make the difference in the game.

I don’t think HCPN will ever have a hard time finding Assistant Coaches

Comment by fram 09.03.15 @ 9:18 am

Fram, that Narduzzi was able to improve the assistants deals also speaks volumes about the new administration at Pitt. Would’ve never happened in the past.

Comment by Iron Duke 09.03.15 @ 9:31 am

Agree I am afraid to say it because I suffer from the SOP disease but I really believe this is going to be a new Pitt

Comment by fram 09.03.15 @ 11:02 am

does anybody have any idea what is happening to the O-Line everyday its somebody new hurt.

Comment by fram 09.03.15 @ 11:15 am

I’m hearing 45-50k attendance for Saturday. Not a bad way to start the season. Could be more, looks like there are only 48 tix left on Stubhub. Would love to see this to be the butts in seats number as well.

Comment by Timmeh 09.03.15 @ 12:11 pm

What did Narduzzi say in his 1:00 presser?

Comment by gc 09.03.15 @ 12:51 pm

He was supposed to address the O-line issues.

Comment by gc 09.03.15 @ 12:52 pm

Narduzzi said he expects Rowell and Biz both to play but possibly not start, said he heard Bookser was telling the media depth charts and that’s why Bookser is a player and not a coach.

Pitt must start 2-0. Then win 6 of the next 10 minimally.
Can’t wait until kickoff.

A new Reader’s Predictions article will be up in a few hours. Think about what you’re going to say to the sporting world about the Pitt -YSU game.

Also tomorrow is the day we pick a meeting place for pregame festivities

Comment by Reed 09.03.15 @ 6:06 pm

gc @9:20 Is YSU one of your two losses? LOL
Don’t worry I understand your approach – demand excellence. Um you were the 10-2 predictor? Old memory rapidly failing. Pregame jitters, gonna go have a kiwi. HAIL 2 PITT!!!!!
DK’s mom locked him in basement and cut off his computer privileges – why else wouldn’t he comment on early playing time for Heisman candidate NP.
