New Athletic Director Scott Barnes just tweeted out a link to let Pitt fans reserve tickets to the Penn State game next year early. Here are the details:

2015 Pitt Football Season Ticket Holders and Mini Package Holders may now request additional tickets to the highly anticipated matchup in 2016 between Pitt and Penn State at Heinz Field. Additional single game ticket requests can be made by calling the Panthers Ticket Office at 800-643-7488 or by clicking here.

TICKET ALLOCATION
The following order of ticket allocation will be used:

  1. Season Ticket Holders that are Panther Club members that have requested additional tickets by rank
  2. Mini Package Holders that are Panther Club members that have requested additional tickets by rank
  3. Season Ticket Holders that are non-Panther Club members that have requested additional tickets by rank
  4. Mini Package Holders that are non-Panther Club members that have requested additional tickets by rank

Following the Ticket Allocation of requests from Pitt Football Season Ticket and Mini Package Holders we will offer an exclusive opportunity to the following groups based on availability…

  1. Panther Club members that are not Pitt Football Season Ticket or Mini Package holders by rank
  2. Pitt Alumni Association members

After this exclusive period any remaining single game tickets will be made available to the general public.

I can’t stress how important it will be to make sure Heinz is as pro-Pitt as possible. None of us like Penn State, but we can’t deny they have a large fan base that will attend in droves. This is a great way to make the stadium as friendly as possible, so do your part and reserve tickets today!

Looks like PSU is going through a little re-branding effort. Interesting its the academic side that’s re-branding. Then again what would the sports side change? A move to off white?

Thanks Justing – just got a mini-package for 4 tickets each for UVA, UNC and ND … then requested 4 tickets for PSU.

Stop worrying about recruiting classes. This year was never going to be Top 20. Too late to the game. 2017 is the year we’ll rise in the rankings. All that means is more risks and chances. less sure things.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 08.05.15 @ 10:34 am

Wow Boston Commons @8:07!
I realize it’s crazy early as hoops aren’t even practicing yet, but to have Joe L. Bracketology preseason not have Pitt as even a play-in team, nor first 4 out, or even 2nd 4 out tells me we have, in fact, like mini me’s big other, lost our MOJO!!!

Comment by pittman4ever 08.05.15 @ 11:01 am

Apparently Uncle Joe isn’t too impressed with our 3rd rate additions.

Nor with the current group of returnees.

More stiffs doesn’t equate to getting better.

Just more of a chance to micro-manage the stiffs.

Comment by Emel 08.05.15 @ 11:38 am

I think this year is pivotal for Jamie Dixon. If we are mediocre (again), miss the NCAAs (again), and one and done or out of NIT (again), it could spell trouble for Sir Jamie. I don’t see our Chancellor and new AD putting up with it for much longer.

Comment by Pitt it IS 08.05.15 @ 11:42 am

Lunardi has 9 ACC teams in.

Which put Pitt in the lower half of the conf.

As I posted yesterday, we will be lucky to finish in the upper half of the conf.

More than likely it will be 9th or below.

Comment by Emel 08.05.15 @ 11:43 am

enough complaining about our recruiting rankings. With our history of .500 football, thats what we get. In that vane, maybe we have done pretty well with our classes. If ‘Duzzi can back up the hype, swagger and social media swag with on field wins, watch the recruits line up.

Comment by Pitt it IS 08.05.15 @ 11:50 am

Agree Emel. We could quickly become a bottom-feeder.

Comment by Pitt it IS 08.05.15 @ 11:51 am

I think it’s a great idea to highjack a football thread for some hoops histrionics just because Lunardi took a dump nearly four months before the season starts. I hope he keeps it updated over the next few months.

Those preseason rankings have proven to be so reliable. I think Pitt ended up on the wrong end of one just last year in that they were supposed to be in the top half of the ACC and in the tourney. However I don’t care enough to check.

It does however serve Emel’s agenda. He’s great at self serving.

Comment by Barvo 08.05.15 @ 12:07 pm

D’oh! I only have one season ticket so I only get one additional ticket request. I guess it makes sense given the demand for this game.

The rep did mention about others getting the $135 plan so they would be able to request PSU tix on their own.

Actually barfo we were on this BEFORE Lunardi came out with his stuff.

My only agenda is not seeing Pitt basketball continue to regress.

It was the only thing that got us thru plenty of years after yet another year of agony in football.

Don’t know if I can handle year round agony at this point.

Comment by Emel 08.05.15 @ 1:00 pm

And btw I think a little timeout from football…before it begins in earnest isn’t a bad thing.

And losing bigtime football recruits in PA to Pedo State is not as devastating as losing them to Pedo State in hoops.

If only because there are only 12 players on a basketball team that seen any action.

Sorry that is news ! If it effected your love affair with Jaime. Too bad.

Comment by Emel 08.05.15 @ 1:05 pm

Weren’t we just talking about Damon Wilson and how he was our one point guard (now shooting guard) coming in who’s somewhat highly regarded? I mean, it’s uncanny how things happen sometimes. I don’t care what anyone says, we’ve got some bad mojo. (Will just saying that reverse it?)

Is there a such thing as good Pitt hoops news? My God. I still say Dixon has absolutely done enough to earn 2 more years. That said, I don’t see it ending well for him. It’s a shame really, the guy has been a good ambassador for the university. But bottom line, you have 1st rate facilities, a great home atmosphere, and you’re in a premier conference. No ceiling, like the one I sadly think the football program has. Bottom tier ACC program is not acceptable…

Comment by Pap76 08.05.15 @ 3:12 pm

Hit submit on accident. 40K? No way man. Pitt fans need to step up. I’ve heard reasons and excuses for years on why fans don’t show up. Steve Pederon and a lack of commitment usually #1 and 1A. Pederson is gone and while Pitt will never have money rolling in like some schools, there does see to be real effort to upgrade the athletic dept, starting with football.

I understand logistically for a lot of fans. Including many on here

Comment by Pap76 08.05.15 @ 3:23 pm

(Did it again)…cont…

For many fans , logistically attending more than a game or 2, it isn’t possible. But for Pitt fans in western PA, it is time to step up and show we are happy and behind this new leadership group, and put asses in seats. We really can make a difference. A better atmosphere at Heinz, will absolutely help recruiting. More than 10,0000 Nitters on Sept 10th 2016 is unacceptable.

I guess we owed Akron a game in a 2-1 agreement? Most if not all Power 5 schools get 7 home games, Pitt only gets 6 this year. Also don’t schools generally get 2 off weeks? I’m only seeing one, between the Akron and Iowa game. Not the easiest schedule for a 1st time head coach.

4-0 heading into homecoming against the Hoo’s October 10th would be phenomenal. Very unlikely, I think most of us would be happy with 3-1. 2-2, not so much. 1-3 is possible(borderline disaster). Need to win to show recruits this a program trending up. Class of ’16 and ’17 in WPIAL are loaded. Duzz and co need to land their share.

Hail to Pitt!! P-e-n-n S-t sucks!!!!

Comment by Pap76 08.05.15 @ 3:42 pm

Unbelievable, so Jamie’s one high profile player in two years may not make it academically. Something is dramatically wrong, more tham just bad luck or the breaks. Rowan, Heron and now maybe Wilson. Add to that the misses at center. Recruiting sucks. Predicted to be third from the bottom this year. PSU getting better players. Not good at all.

Comment by gc 08.05.15 @ 4:31 pm

Pitt will need to beat PSU with at least 20,000 of their fans at Heinz. Only way to shut them up is give them a thorough beating. Huge game for Narduzzi.

Give their fans credit, willing to buy season tickets from Pitt this year just to have a seat for the game next year. Are there any Pitt Fans that would do that?

Comment by gc 08.05.15 @ 4:40 pm

Ok, the non-stop Dixon bashing is so old. I am starting to look forward to Dark Knight’s obsessive Nathan Peterman posts. LOL

Come on DK, was your man a superstar PG in high school? He can save football and basketball. Long, pinpoint passes on the fast break. ๐Ÿ™‚

Comment by notrocketscience 08.05.15 @ 6:41 pm

Pitt fans had better not sell any ticket to a Pedo. That act would result in a hanging down here. You just don’t pull that shit and expect its not a high crime especially when your profit from it. I’d say string up any Pitt fan that does it.

Comment by TX Panther 08.05.15 @ 7:02 pm

Let those 20,000 Nitters watch the game from the Allegheny. I wouldn’t allow more than 5,000 of those pompous cult members into Heinz. I’d also mark every one of them with a scarlet P.

Comment by TX Panther 08.05.15 @ 7:05 pm

Heinz is our (OFF) Campus House. I’ll be damned if some State Penn fan stinks up the place.

Comment by TX Panther 08.05.15 @ 7:07 pm

Unfortunately many of the tickets are corporately owned. They are doled out to customers, clients, and employees, so guess who will get them. That’s why I gave up my tickets last year, got tired of sitting next to the opposition. Haven’t given up my bball tickets yet, was fun watching the nd and nc fans cry.

Will still go to most football games can always scalp a ticket and find Pitt fans to sit with.

Comment by gc 08.05.15 @ 8:00 pm

Sometimes you guys worry about the most ridiculous things. Pittsburgh has a huge contingent of PSU grads and fans. Them coming to the game is a given. PSU’s always going to treat us like we treat WVU as long as we keep crying over stuff out of our control. I don’t even understand why we’re talking about a school that disowned us for 30 years. Let’s talk about them the week leading up to the game, kick their asses and smile for a goddam year. F Penn State. Let’s focus on murdering YSU and getting to 10-2.

Most of those tickets bought by PSU fans will end up back in Pitt fans hands anyways thru stub hub.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 08.05.15 @ 8:49 pm

Didn’t we beat psu the last time we played them in Pittsburgh?

Comment by Frank MD 08.05.15 @ 9:29 pm

Here’s my present position concerning Dixon & Pitt hoops…I have ZERO reson to get excited anymore for any upcoming season with him at the helm. Z-E-R-O….

1) He (and his assistants) can’t recruit….at all. Especially given the facilities, the great Pittsburgh area and the great education that he can offer recruits. And don’t tell me it’s travel money. He can’t even get the locals.

2) Given the choice of watching a Pitt BB game and watching Oprah get a colonoscopy, I’d have to flip a coin.

3) If by some reason (read: miracle) Pitt gets to the NCAA’s it’s a pretty sure bet we will get trounced in round 1 or 2. (The days of high seeds are over BTW. see #1)

4) Watching Dixon slide up and down the sidelines like a nutcase makes me dizzy….

5) Dixon’s style of recruiting stiffs who stay 4 years so he has physical men in their junior/senior years who can beat up on the frosh boy wonders of teams who can actually recruit, are over in this ACC. This was the only reason he was successful in years past.

Tossing mentioned that Dixon can coach. Does he know the X’s & O’s? Sure…..but he can’t get the Jimmies & Joes. He used to get the occasional 4 star PG or PF, but it seems now that Dixon is kryptonite to good HS players out there.

Tossing is right though, getting rid of Dixon while Nordy & Cyanide were here would have been a disaster. What will move the new power structure though will be fan support, or lack thereof, at the Pete. Last year I have to say was not a good sign in that reguard IMO.

Comment by Jackagain 08.05.15 @ 9:36 pm

I may have started this Dixon discussion a few days ago when I mentioned Pitt not getting former commit and local Maverick Rowan. This article from him speaks volumes about why Dixon can’t recruit.

โ€œI think people do misunderstand me, but I couldn’t care less,โ€ said Rowan, who spent his junior year at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons. โ€œI’m going to go out and try to prove them wrong. People don’t understand what’s going on because it’s not a basketball town.โ€ Ouch…

โ€œPitt wasn’t the greatest fit for me; N.C. State was,โ€ Rowan said. โ€œSometimes, I don’t think I would have fit well in Jamie Dixon’s offense, the system he runs. I can go to N.C. State and play the wing spot, win some games and, hopefully, a national championship.โ€ Double ouch…

โ€œI’d put it this way,โ€ he said. โ€œI’d rather play in the NCAA Tournament than the McDonald’s game.โ€ Think these guys don’t know about Dixon in the NCAA’s?

I recall about 15-20k Nitters at that game. Many cried when they lost 12-0 at Three Rivers. Many couldn’t believe a dirty city school like Pitt could beat them. They felt dirty themselves as a result. I’m all for making them feel dirty again. It’s time we treated them as the pricks they are. Poopy Pants wasn’t going to put Pitt on par with his Grand Experiment. Now the Nation disowns Penn State for what was covered up yet Nitters don’t want to discuss that sordid history. Penn State SUCKS. I hope that makes it back into the Fight Song. I’d rather hang with a Hoopie than hang alone.

Comment by TX Panther 08.05.15 @ 9:42 pm

The Dixon lovers will be out to hang you Jack. The truth likes to be covered up with that group much like the truth at Pedo State with that cult. There is a cult of Dixon supporters that would have you believe he is the second coming of Wooden. Watch your back Jack.

Comment by Jackagain 08.05.15 @ 10:00 pm

Jackagain – Relax man. You said it yourself, Pitt could not have gotten rid of Dixon with SP in charge. Pitt basketball would have returned to the 1990’s.

Under Barnes, replacing Dixon isn’t as lofty as it once seemed. As I’ve said though, everything we want from football, Dixon has done with Pitt basketball. Number 1 seeds, Number 1 rankings, beating Number 1 teams. He’s a Scotty Reynolds miracle from OT to go to the Final 4.

Pitt basketball was better with Jeff Long at AD. Pitt basketball was worse with SP at AD. Pitt football was better with Jeff Long at AD. Pitt football was worse with SP at AD. See the trend here …

Dixon has earned a shot to work with Barnes. He’ll have this year and next year to prove himself. Both will be tourney years BTW but I don’t think that saves him. He’ll have to show he’s making strides in the program. The bar will be higher than NCAA tournament births.

I think only Smoke is safe on the current staff. It’s gonna get blown up this offseason. Win or lose, there will be major changes.

You don’t like his style or coaching philosophy – I get that. I’m not a fan of how sabremetrics are taking over sports and Dixon was an early adapter in college basketball. It takes away from the game … in all sports. I like individuality and stars. Sabremetrics is in direct conflict with both.

As much as I don’t like it though, it tends to work.

Then our new Pitt cheer whilst exiting Heinz Field can be screamed in unison, “You Are,,,,,,Losers,,,,,,,Again”!

Until then let’s just continue to enjoy 12-0. Hail to Pitt!

Dr..Tom,
You are on the money about PSU fans VS. Mountaineer fans. And anyone that says to play WVU just don’t go to Morgantown is full of it. Pitt fans should be able to attend that game to root on our Panthers, why make Morganhole home field advantage even a bigger asset to WVU. I didn’t even feel safe in Pittsburgh when the Mounties came to town.
PSU didn’t like us either but they were civil.

Comment by Emel 08.06.15 @ 1:25 pm

Spirit – I’ve been to Morgantown several times with my kids for a Pitt game and never once had a problem. I can’t say the same wearing a Steelers jersey to Baltimore. Besides being booed in a good natured way I’ve been completely fine going in as an opposing fan.

Pitt’s a city school so it’s different.

In regards to PSU, I went to a Michigan PSU game in the late 90’s and saw a car get torched. College fans in college towns go nuts. WVU fans = PSU fans except torching couches has become a tradition at WVU. That’s done away from where any opposing fan would be or should be. They leave other schools fans alone.

The players on the field have their attention. WVU fans do not treat opposing teams very well, I’ll grant you that, but they don’t bother the fans in the stands. Just remember you’re in their house and be respectful.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 08.06.15 @ 1:54 pm

Rules of the road. Been to wvu and psu away games. Seen both wins and losses. The drunk fans are the worst. You ignore them and smile back (makes them madder) especially if you are surrounded in the stands. Hang around the security guards as you leave. Of course stay out of the bar areas. Go with friends in a close group. Do not wear school clothes. Psu fans can be as bad as wvu fans but there are a lot more unhappy wvu fans.

Comment by Frank MD 08.06.15 @ 3:12 pm

@TT, you are the first Pitt fan that I can remember that has no sordid stories to be told about those games down in Morgantown. Guess there’s a 1st time for everything.

Just wondering if your 6’5″ tall and packing 300+ pounds as maybe the reason you’ve avoided conflict in Morgantown, or perhaps you’re missing some front teeth and they just considering you family from the big city?

Comment by Dr. Tom 08.06.15 @ 3:16 pm

Dr. Tom – lol … I wish. If you don’t like WVU fans don’t go to Baltimore for a Steelers game. Those people are nuts.

I’ve been to games several times. It’s been no different than PSU games. There’s more PSU fans at a game so I’d actually feel less safe there.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 08.06.15 @ 4:15 pm

Went to 2 Pitt away games in the late 70’s, early 80’s in Morganhole.

One was the game where Marino didn’t play. Think Dan Daniels was the QB that game.

We didn’t encounter any problems. Of course there were 4 or 5 of us I believe. And I’m kinda mean looking ala Dirty Harry. ๐Ÿ™‚

Comment by Emel 08.06.15 @ 4:37 pm

Emel,
Between 1971 until 1994 every time Pitt went to Morganhole for football I was there. I live less than an hour from Morganhole. Two consecutive trips to Morganhole resulted in damage to my buddy’s truck with a hammer job all the way around the fenders of his truck and a broken windshield. Upset we chalked it up to an isolated incident. The next time Pitt headed back to Morganhole we went back this time in my vehicle only to be physically threatened upon leaving the stadium, and finding my windshield had been shattered and car spray painted because I had a Pitt bumper sticker. I’m not physically a big guy and I don’t drink so I didn’t do anything to provoke these actions. I go thousands of miles to watch Pitt road games and I fear for my life to travel 40 miles to Morganhole for a Pitt game. WVU does not deserve to ever be on Pitt’s schedule for anything. Beg all you want WVU !

Comment by Spindler's Spirit 08.07.15 @ 8:20 am

TT – Maybe the three little body guards is the key. ๐Ÿ™‚ I wont hide my Pitt gear at any away game but as you, I repect the opponent’s house. Does WVU? No. Is there any word other than shit that rhymes with Pitt – they can chant it all they want down there but they come to our house and do it it shows who they are; classless. Was it last year or the year before WVU fans attacked a pregnant LSU fan as she and two fans drove out of the stadium area? Gotta go order my 2 extra PSU tickets. H2P

Buy baby by. The most painfull thing as a Pitt football fan(short of losing) is to go into your home stadium for a Penn State or Notre Dame game and be outnumbered by THEIR fans.Only counter to that is like last game in Pitt stadium against Notre Dame and last game against Penn state at Three Rivers stadium——-we beat their___s so it shut them up and led to a lot of early retirals from the stadium by the visiting fans.
