Iowa – PITT Predictions

Filed under: Football,Opponent(s),Players — Reed @ 1:37 pm

(P/S: Please read Justin’s “Iowa Keys to the Game ” first then jump back over here and get your prediction down for us.)

Two day until game time and we’re playing at Heinz Field  again, this time against the Big Ten opponent the Iowa Hawkeyes.  I think other PITT fans are with me, at least the ones with tickets to the game, and have been really looking forward to see our Panthers in live action again.

The weather report for Saturday at noon is great with cooler temps in the low 70s and sunshine – perfect football weather.  We have three wins with no losses, an awesome running game, stout rushing defense and a chance to see just how well our QB and the passing game can work against a FBS opponent at home.

Reed:  PITT  27, Iowa  21.  Lower scoring and hard fought on Saturday. I’m not sold yet on our passing game seeing a breakthrough although I can see Voytik getting 100+ yards passing and throwing one TD pass with an INT or two. He’ll help again with his running ability.   I think our rushing game gets 175-200 yards and we win.

Justin: Pitt 24, Iowa 14. Voytik throws for 180 yards and 2 TDs, Conner goes for 90 yards, and Ray Vinopal has a huge day for the defense.

How about you guys?  Give us a  winner, final score and why you think it will turn out that way.

I had to stay to take care of 2 shit-faced buddies and I’m glad I did. They passed out in the stands and I couldn’t carry them both home. Havern was a frat brother and I couldn’t believe what he was doing to WVU.

Hey giraffe, pmdH took a redshirt his first year and a medical redshirt to account for his time at Pitt if you are trying to figure it out. This new math is a stumper. Welcome aboard.

PITT 31 Iowa 17

I had previously predicted 28-17 on a 9/16 post.

We will rush for 300 yards (Conner.Bennett, James, Ibraham & CV

CV will pass for 175 & 2 TD’s

Besides, after reading Iowa blogs, their fans seem to be better able to handle a loss & resulting disappointment. I’m looking for the trolls to reappear for the VT game.

If I’m not mistaken Iowa is top ten against the rush. PITT young,depth issues,secondary issues & passing game issues. Can PITT play a physical game against a Big Ten team? If PITT wins the battle at the line of scrimmage I like PITT’s chances. If not? Need game to be a TB highlight film. My heart says PITT 23 Iowa 20. H2P!

@duffdaddy

Exactly. I was held back to allow for my future potential.

@Dr. Tom,

I actually thought about that when I posted it. Truth is, we usually park across the river and I’m planning on bring a gnome that serves as my classroom mascot. I want my Ohio students to see him with Roc, the Panther, the chief, some cheerleaders, some Primatis, etc. But I don’t think he will be allowed into the stadium and I’m too old and fat to walk back to the car.

Final Score….hoping for Pitt 16, Iowa 13.

I see Iowa plugging up Conner. 27 carries 84 yards. I think the other backs play the big role. I want to think it will be James, but whoever it is, will have success with quick hitters and outside pitches. No misdirection or draws. Iowa is too big and slow to let those plays fool them.

I hope too that Boyd is healthier than the last game. I think health makes a difference. I also think these two teams mirror each other from a TE, Offensive philosophy, but I think the star power wins it. Always go with the most talented person on the field when all else is even. Boyd fills that role, followed by Conner, Schnerff and their running back. Our DL needs to make an early statement as I see Weismann rushing 25 times too with similar results.

Man am I getting the willies on this game. Too close. I hope vegas gets it right. In typical fashion, I try to wait until upitt picks and then go the complete opposite way for a guaranteed win, but he has been silent.

Carpe’ Hawkeyes and Let’s Go Pitt!!!

On my ride up to the Burgh for the game I heard 3 gambling services including one on 970 all pick Iowa and claim Pitt as the false fave. I said it on Monday 38-10 Pitt!

Last week I had a bad vibe about south Florida and FIU! Pulled out the 1980 loss ghost and waved it for all it was worth. Fortunately we righted the ship and played solid ball after an initial scare!
No such feeling this week! Reading the Iowa blogs the hawkeye faithful are predicting a big loss for their team. They have little confidence in their QB and secondary! Panthers win 23-14! Hail to PITT! UPone

Lost in Atlanta – this blog doesn’t pre-screen comments at all. Unlike others we trust our readers to make good points and be civil while doing it. I get the feeling you think this blog is a “homer” type venue for talking about PITT sports. I’ll say truthfully that I don’t think that at all and I also think that my opinions may be the least ‘homerish’ of all. I can be pretty critical sometimes as can Chas and our commenters.

I’m not sure what you think is controversial in your comment anyway. I believe a lot of PITT fans feel the same way you do about the QB situation in 2015 although going out and getting a transfer at this point may be premature as Voytik might shake things off and become a successful and productive QB. Besides, Adam Bertke may just be the type of QB you can play as a rsFR.

BTW that was “Freebeck” who switched commitments.
