Open Letter to Pitt Football Seniors

Filed under: Uncategorized — Panther Rants Collective @ 5:48 pm

Dear Pitt Seniors,

Us Pitt fans would like to take the time to say Thank You for being Pitt Panthers.   Your time here like the previous 2-3 graduating classes weren’t easy considering:

1. The coach that recruited you would be fired at the end of the season

2. Your next coach would be fired over a “domestic dispute”  weeks later.

3. The coach after that would leave town after just one season and would say goodbye via text message.

4. You’d lose your teammates whether it was for transferring out or off field issues.

5. You’d spend three January’s in Birmingham.

In the end, you kept on playing.  One of you took home four awards.  The rest of you helped bring home a bowl win.  You didn’t leave here with nothing, and you did leave your mark with the current players.

Heading into the bowl game, this team was without their top receiver and most of its offensive line.  They’d lose their quarterback at halftime.  Their running back was playing “Ironman Football”.  Despite all that, no one on the team played like they had some excuse.

The backup quarterback came in and drove a team from near its own goaline for a touchdown.  The running back broke a Pitt Great’s rushing record in a bowl game.  The defense helped limit a quarterback who was upset because Pitt wouldn’t offer him as if every other BCS program wanted him.

It doesn’t matter who you played that night.  There was a lot of reasons to love this bowl win.  You left it all out there on field.  The players who all stepped up that we’ll be seeing next year and years to come.  Not sure what the future holds, but we Pitt fans always enjoy the ride.

In closing, we’d like to Thank You for being Pitt Panthers.  Hail to Pitt!

I meant to say I would prefer to see Al Golden at Penn State over James Franklin.

Hi from Columbus. What an awesome finish to the season. Pitt wins bowl, Suckeyes lose. Can’t wait to read the Sunday letters to the ed in the Dispatch.

Comment by OHowIHateOhioState 01.04.14 @ 9:28 am

I’ve been reading the Plain Dealer and they want the DC (Fickel)fired … sound familiar! And they aren’t being very kind to the great Urban either.

I also noticed that to put some of these Buck fans in their place, someone wrote just how dominant FSU was AT Clemson.

Best from the Columbus Dispatch so far: The cost of an Orange Bowl ticket… Who cares. Watching “Script Ohio”…. Who gives a flying f%$#. Having the most obnoxious fan base in sports silenced…. Always priceless.

Emel, 19 penalties, 163 yards, no wonder Millen commended the refs for the great job they did, what a putz.

Sammy Watkins is what I hope Boyd looks like next year, what a player.

Seemed like the OSU QB was a bit of a drama queen, sure wanted everyone to know how wounded he was.

Millen sure bought the story line.

Very satisfying to see Meyer go down, with all that talent.

Clemson needs a new D-backs coach.

Chryst better give Engram a raise and a new title.

Bowl games have been very competitive, still like to see a playoff. This year it needed to be 16 teams. Clemson deserved in.

An FSU win on Monday sure would help the ACC profile. A loss will will increase meth production in the SouthEast.

Good one!

Comment by wbb 01.04.14 @ 10:06 am

gc, what worries me the most about a new PSU coach is losing Engram …. even though his wife is from Pgh

Comment by wbb 01.04.14 @ 10:07 am

Worst case scenario, Golden hired, Bradley reinstated, Engram joins them.

Chryst needs to find his “Slice”

Comment by gc 01.04.14 @ 10:08 am

BTW, just how great is Charlie Strong? He is offered $25M for 5 years (reportedly) at a great FB program, but wants to talk to his current AD and school prez before accepting offer … the people who gave him his 1st HC job.

I think it’s classy

Comment by wbb 01.04.14 @ 10:14 am

Looking for a counter offer?

Comment by gc 01.04.14 @ 10:17 am

Who knows? Just like the fact that he didn’t just bolt without an audience with his current employers

Comment by wbb 01.04.14 @ 10:53 am

@ wbb Maybe he looking for an excuse to stay at L-ville. Perhaps he doesn’t want all the pressure that goes along with being HC at Texas.

L-Ville is a few notches below on the pressure meter. Also the Big 12 has some really strong programs. In the ACC you have FSU & Clemson and a lot of mediocrity after that.

Good ole Charlie might see things being easier at Louisville.

Comment by Emel 01.04.14 @ 11:26 am

@ gc….yea can you believe 19 penalties, don’t think I can remember ever seeing 20 penalties called on one team in any game.

Clemson outgained Ohio Fake by nearly 200 yards as well. So take the penalties and the Clemson blown coverages in the 2nd quarter alone, plus the little pick Boyd threw in the 2nd Q, and Ohio Fake was damn lucky they didn’t get blown out !

Millen could have choked on that all nite.
Would have sat thru the whole game of a blowout just to see that ! What a schmuck !

Comment by Emel 01.04.14 @ 11:30 am

web…if mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. Engram stays.

Comment by Atlanta Panther 01.04.14 @ 12:21 pm

Best case scenario…UPS hires Schiano and he gets rid of Larry Johnson.

Comment by Jackagain 01.04.14 @ 3:20 pm

looks like Golden… what do people think? He seemed to be doing a good job in Miami? Is he an offensive or defensive coach?

losing Engram would be really bad… always wondered about that. hopefully he is not one of these guys that wants to go back to his old school…

Comment by Pittscript 01.04.14 @ 3:52 pm

Munchak is available now…he was just fired at Tenn.

Congrats seniors…I hope to see you all on Sundays in the near future. (Mondays & Thursdays too)

Congratulations and thank you to the seniors. Good luck with your futures and we look forward to seeing you at Heinz Field as fans in the future.

Comment by Joe Lawrence 01.05.14 @ 9:59 am

Golden was all set to sign until Munchak got canned. Now PSU must at lest go through the motions of an interview and act like they gave Munchak a chance so he doesn’t cause political problems for Golden. Playing interview games can be problematic when timelines come out and they eventually will.

Saban was just cemented to stay at Texas for a long while because his team just took a beating at the hands of a big12 team. The best coaches biggest fear is another coach in his conference being better. Saban does not have that problem in the SEC and he knows it, so he doesn’t go anywhere. This is where I see a problem for Strong in the big12. Strong will not be the best coach in his conference and as such will struggle. If Strong was smart, he would stick to the ACC where he would have an opportunity to be the best coach in his conference and dominate the landscape. I say this about the recruits all the time. Do your homework. I also think Saban will be in a hurt of trouble over the next few seasons as it will be the first time in four years a qb other than McCarron leads that team. That could be a problem for Foster.

Pitt needs to finish their recruiting class strong. I expect one Florida Recruit(Gordon) and hopefully Jennings to round out the class. It would put Pitt around a 35 ranking which is what we should expect given the results on the field. Build a strong foundation and improve each year.

Thanks to all the Seniors who left it on the field. Be productive in life and while you are at it, there are plenty of high school football coaching positions available in Florida. A good athletic department helps these kids with degrees finding opportunities out there if they want to pursue coaching.

Tony in Houston,

I work for UPMC’s big competitor. Nordenberg does not run UPMC. At any rate, a discussion about UPMC or Highmark doesn’t really belong here.

I know Emel and OhowIHateOhioState despise the sanctimonious Suckeyes. I grew up in Northeast Ohio hearing about how great OSU was and how great the big Two Little Eight was and how great the OSU Michigan game was.

At that time, Pitt vs. Penn State was the far superior rivalry, but because neither school belonged to a conference at the time it did not get the same level of national coverage.

My dad despised Woody Hayes. He rooted for Michigan to beat OSU.

Golden would be better served to stay in Miami. South Florida is a better place to live than Crappy Valley.

4 star receiver Adonis Jennings makes his commitment tonight in the Semper Fi all star game he down to Pitt and Iowa with Putt as heavy favorite .

Comment by Togatogatoga 01.05.14 @ 8:11 pm

He hasn’t played much so far, if at all during first half. There are some nice players still un-committed. Hopefully we get a commit and he does some recruiting. Cosentino playing and was average at best in first half.

He just isn’t comfortable in the passing game or in the pocket yet. He does have a strong arm though.

Next hour should be telling…..

Pitt is it for Jennings !!!!
