In a shocker to no one, Aaron Donald has been named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year. Here’s the official announcement:

http://www.theacc.com/#!/news-detail/Florida-State-Winston-Named-ACC-Player-Of-The-Year_12-04-13_suwf6m

Donald received 44 of 65 votes and also recieved four votes for the overall player of the year, which went to Jameis Winston.

A great example to the western PA recruits that you can stay local and be a nationally recognized star player. Plus, come and play early.

H2P and H2AD

actually, I was a little shocked, mainly due to the fact that Donald was not the leading defensive vote getter on the all-ACC team the other day.

Well-desereved nonetheless

I hope he wins the Outland.

Well deserved. A young man who exemplifies what all Pitt students and student-athletes should aspire to.

H2P!!!

If he wins the Outland, he will be in great company! His banner will be hanging next to Fitzgerald at Heinz. Great to cheer for him in an otherwise lackluster year.

Keep those awards coming, so well deserved.

The fact that Donald is the ONLY DEFENSIVE Player in the discussion regarding the Top Awards… speaks volumes as to the impact he’s had in the realm of college football this year.

That tells me he’ll at least be invited to New York for the Heisman.

Donald is an amazingly unique talent. His acceleration through the line is unequaled.
Going to be very interesting to see what position he plays in the Pros. He is definitely too small for an interior lineman. Probably D-end, but I wonder if he is agile enough to play linebacker.

Too bad we didn’t have a D-end of his stature while he was here. Imagine the pass rush with him coming up the middle and Sheard or Romeus coming from the side. Nowhere to hide.

Guys like Dumervill(sp?) and Chris Long aren’t real big but have had a pretty big impact in the pros…I think Donald is worthy of a 2nd-3rd round pick, at least. If he dropped 10-15 pounds, he might be a ferocious middle backer, who could look pretty darn good in black and gold…Kirkland weighed about 280 as I recall but may have been taller than Donald — can’t imagine he was any quicker off the snap or much harder to block.

If AD doesn’t get the Outland Trophy, the whole post season award process is screwed up IMO. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he gets awarded EVER award that he is a finalist for. Whatever he receives, he’s earned it.

Congrats to one of the best college football players to ever wear the Blue & Gold!
