Political Suicide

Filed under: General Stupidity — Chas @ 6:58 pm

This site takes a deliberate no political discussions, please — approach. This post will touch on politics, so I apologize in advance.

Specifically this will touch on the candidacy of Natalie Tennant. She is the Secretary of State for West Virginia and running for the US Senate to replace the retiring Jay Rockefeller. Yes, this will be about doing something stupid. I know, redundant when mentioning West Virginia.

Chris Peak of PantherLair pointed this out today. It is Natalie Tennant’s 3:30 minute YouTube ad/announcement of her candidacy for the senate.

Don’t worry if you don’t feel like listening and watching the whole thing. The relevant portion is at the 2:20 mark where she talks about student loan interest rates. Time for the picturesque college campus shot. WVU? Marshall? No… :

TennantWVPitt

Look familiar?

As noted, per her Wikipedia page she is a graduate ofย  WVU with a degree in journalism.

Haha

Ha ha ha. Great find.

Comment by CNorwoodAZ 09.17.13 @ 7:27 pm

Too bad the YouTube comments are turned off for this video. I wanted to show my support for a fellow Panther.

Comment by 2$Chuck 09.17.13 @ 11:18 pm

Maybe she has a degree like US Senator Joe Manchin’s daughter….didn’t.

Didn’t seem to keep Mylan from making her the CEO.

Can you say Crony Capitalism. ๐Ÿ™‚

I liked Jay Rockefeller. I hope she is as active and successful in the Party as he was.

Thanks Reed:
For being a Complete “active” fag @ 5AM EST this morn.

This is bad. The media company she hired should’ve known enough not to use footage from a school that’s recognizable because it’s still seen as a hated rival. This was just lazy and unprofessional. And that refelcts on her competence as a politician.

Comment by Shawn 09.18.13 @ 7:26 am

it is very unlikely she recognized the campus scene; this is he fault of the producer of the video (who for all we know is a Pitt alum or just didn’t think anyone would pick this up)

West Virginia politics may get very “interesting.” Rank and file coal miners are beginning to worry about the decline in their industry coming out of the various Federal efforts to curtail the use of coal. West Virginia is the one state apt to be most hurt economically by those efforts.

Comment by pitt1972 09.18.13 @ 8:00 am

This must have been the same media producer that used that Pittsburgh sky line for Anthony Weiner’s campaign website.

pitt1972, abundant natural gas is the biggest threat to coal.

Comment by gc 09.18.13 @ 8:33 am

I’m sure it was much more cost effective to use some stock footage then go on location to shoot a one second scene in WVA. With that said, I will take any jab at WVA/WVU I can. I am sure they tried to shoot on location but the burning couches kept getting in the way.

Comment by Yeti 09.18.13 @ 8:47 am

The current regime is a much bigger threat to clean coal power than natural gas.

And that kook that got appointed Energy Czar. ๐Ÿ™‚

Comment by EMel 09.18.13 @ 8:50 am

I know Natalie well. She is the former FEMALE Mountaineer sans beard. She often takes her musket to political rallies except when Obama or his anti-gun cronies are present. She is as Hoopie as they come.

Comment by Panther Fan in Hoopieland 09.18.13 @ 9:23 am

West Virginia can go completely red hanging onto the coat tails of toxic coal. The state is already full of ignorant, Bible-thumping hillbillies who will criticize the federal government but be the first with their hands outstretched for aid.

Chas – much better to be political and honest about it than ranting and raving like a madman about people who will never believe Pederson tells the truth.

Comment by TonyinHouston 09.18.13 @ 9:32 am

She should have showed rabid Hoopies huddled around a burning couch; that is something the people of this state could more closely identify with. H2P!

Comment by Panther Fan in Hoopieland 09.18.13 @ 9:33 am

@@@@@@
Pennsylvania people criticizing politicians
from other states? Consider the number
shady people who represent Pennsylvanians
We should pass on the the political
commentary and focus on renewing
the Brawl.

Comment by JR 09.18.13 @ 10:25 am

This isn’t political commentary. It’s something funny that happened. That’s all. It’s funny.

Geez.

Comment by Dan 09.18.13 @ 10:50 am

Meh. Just politicians trying to get elected. I’m from Jersey, where a mayor of a major city gets arrested on federal corruption charges what seems like once a year and I have to see creepy Wiener’s campaign commercials.

The no-politics stance is the way to go here, BTW. This is a relatively nice corner of the internet, mostly free from that crap. I can’t stand listening or reading about any of it. I hate when my friends try to drag me into conversations about it. So pointless. Has anyone ever been convinced of anything in a political argument? I’ll just continue to blindly press the Democrat button every election until I get rich or find Jesus.

Comment by Chris 09.18.13 @ 11:44 am

@Chas, thanks, I got a good chuckle from many people at the office.

You shouldn’t apologize Chas, there really wasn’t anything political about it.

It’s a Pitt-WVU thing, not political at all.

I mean, everyone does get, that it’s a shot of Pitt’s campus on a West Virginia political ad, right????

I’m not so sure.

Comment by Dan 09.18.13 @ 12:10 pm

I agree with Dan. Great Pitt-WVU related post by Chas. Thanks for the levity and truly the humor of this political ad. I will be sure and bring it to her attention when I see her.

Comment by Panther Fan in Hoopieland 09.18.13 @ 2:46 pm

Locally and nationally, this is about as much traction as this story will get. As a Democrat, she won’t be questioned, her motives won’t be challenged, and just a couple dozen comments in a sports’ blog will be the only record of this transgression. Quite frankly, as long as she didn’t implicate she was actually ON a WV campus, she hasn’t broken any laws or even any allegiances. This is the modus operandis of any politician–it’s not the credibility of serious facts, but the seriousness of the charge that counts.

Comment by Lou 09.18.13 @ 4:08 pm

“The state is already full of ignorant, Bible-thumping hillbillies who will criticize the federal government..” — says the guy from Texas.

For those of us living in TX that was the best comment on the page! But we’re not as bad as WV.
