With graduation from Madison (Wis.) Memorial High School and his first class at Pitt awaiting come June, Weah will try to make Wisconsin track and field history Friday and Saturday at the state championships at Wisconsin-Lacrosse University. He is the No. 1 seed in the 100-meter run and No. 3 in the 200, with school-record times of 10.59 and 21.94 seconds — in his first full year of running track.
“That’s crazy to think about,” Weah said.
He’s 6-3, 190 pounds and can run like that. Can’t say he doesn’t have the raw tools. It would be nice in a few years to have Wisconsin fans wondering how they missed a kid in their own town.
The football side of the old Big East — now the American Athletic Conference — has their new logo.
I don’t hate it. And on the football side, I hope for the best for them. They weren’t the problem with the old Big East.

A solid piece looking at Mark May’s frustrating descent to Trev Alberts clownishness.
When Alberts was fired in 2005 and was replaced by Lou Holtz on the studio broadcast, May picked up where Alberts left off as the heel of college football analysts. While I have no proof of this, it sure felt like the higher ups in Bristol instructed May to take over Alberts’ role as Public Enemy No. 1 for ratings purposes. This is the same company, after all, that has turned its network into the “Sports Debate Channel” and shoved the reviled “First Take” duo of Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith down our throats.
May now positions himself as the college football analyst who calls it like it is, but it’s really just a cover for pissing on teams and their fans to get a rise out of people, just like Bayless. May is an infamous Ohio State and Notre Dame hater, but he doesn’t just troll those fanbases. He gets a thrill out of inciting hatred from everyone.
The Paterno family, a legion of their apologists, etc. are filing their own lawsuit against the NCAA “on behalf of Penn State.” By the time it would actually finish winding through the courts and the appeals and everything else, sanctions would be over. This is only thing they could really get out of it — assuming for argument’s sake that they won — would be giving Joe Paterno his wins back. Which pretty much sums up what they really want: Paterno’s reputation back.
I would like to say I have more thoughts on this, but…
*As Chas points out, litigation will drag for yrs to come and likely the penalties will have been served by that point..Costas pointed this out and the Lawyer basically chuckled in embarrassment…so with that said…its all about Paterno and trying to restore the already destroyed reputation… this has nothing to do with restoring the community and athl dept….or seeking justice from a punishment of the NCAA.

Rumors swirled that the Nits accepted their punishment because the alternative was worse: NCAA Death Penalty. Wouldn’t it be ironic if that worse fate still befell them because of PSU continually picking open this scab….
It appears the only thing they really want are the “wins” back so he can claim most NCAA D1 wins again.
They are going to run O’Brien out the door.
You would think they would put a stop to this BS. PSU did well last season, lots of fans in the seats (over 95,000 average), and recruiting is going very very well in face of sanctions.
The sanctions did not hit as hard as most thought. Frankly, I’m surprised.
They have money, a great campus, academics, a rabid fan base, and now a super coach. In the long run the Sandusky travesty will be a blip on the radar.
The Paterno family wants us to believe that although Joe was omnipotent for fifty years the buck didn’t stop with him when it came to Sandusky. Hubris and denial are going to cost them and their backers a lot of money for nothing, why not start a scholarship fund instead.
Anything is possible in a court of law, but the court of public opinion will not be swayed.

I lost all respect for Costa… what I total white wash and revisionism of history. Will never think the same way about Thornburg again as well (but will remember the crap stuck to the bottom of his shoe (don’t support people catch this stuff?).
Thank God, as a Catholic, that my church did not choose to go about things in such a manner. All this will do is fire up the conspiracy theorists and rabid loyalists who will now pathologically obsess about righting the wrongs to Paterno and PSU…
Meanwhile the rest of the country is going to look at this and just reread the part about “PSU needs to change the culture from being football dominated” and wonder when PSU will get that memo.
Of course the institution probably has… interesting their immediate disclaimer this morning along with the quote from Victim 1’s lawyer which was spot on the mark about how to really rehabilitate Paterno’s legacy over time… just admit the man is human and made a mistake.
Right above about running off O’Brien which would be a disaster for them… turns out he more than they could have hoped for.
Shows the political clout of PSU alumni to see NBC and Costa kissing their a$$ along with the political hierarchy of the state which filed a law suit too…
… oh, and what about the children and the real victims…. yeah, some folks are forgetting about that ‘detail’.

Paterno was the most powerful man at PSU for 40+ years. Even by his admission, he should have done more to stop Sandusky. No amount of suing, spinning or talking is ever going to restore JoePa’s reputation and legacy.

On Mark May……he obviously plays an assigned role. In
addition he is well spoken, articulate, and very knowledgeable.
Personally don’t watch his show often …. Can’t stand the pompass
Holtz. Holtz is a cheat ( remember the 300,000 dollar fiasco at
Minnesota) who somehow out run the issue when he moved on to his next stop.
The Paterno lawsuit is unfortunate. His legacy would be better
served if his family would get over the fact that Joe made a mistake. Appears that his sons suffer from the huge ego issues which ultimately cost Joe his job.
