37 days until Pitt is officially a member of the ACC (July 1).

72 days until the day training camp opens for Pitt (August 5).

100 days until FSU-Pitt kicks off (September 2).

I may have to go out and buy a preview guide.

Lindy’s comes out this Tuesday (May 28).

Phil Steele on Tuesday, June 18.

Can’t get too much better PR than that. ACC – PITT on front cover. Worth getting to add to the collection of memorabilia. Pitt 1st year in ACC. Just feels better being in the ACC already. Going to miss BE basketball but BE football was a dud.

Comment by Pitt fan in Atlanta 05.25.13 @ 9:46 am

Pitt is it.
i love that we are in the ACC that is the greatest
thing all most as good as cheeseburgers .

Comment by FRANKCAN 05.25.13 @ 9:48 am

Pitt fan, it could well have been an area cover .. many of these college mags/rags have different covers to fit the locale. Wouldn’t be surprisd that the Athon Acc edition in your area would have a Ga Tech player on its cover

Comment by wbb 05.25.13 @ 10:07 am

Your probably right WBB. Oh well. Felt good for a moment.

Comment by Pitt fan in Atlanta 05.25.13 @ 10:25 am

I’ll be going to the store this afternoon, we’ll see what they have on the cover down here in North Carolina.

Need to bring back the old colors and script for a launch in the ACC. Let’s do it right !

Comment by EMel 05.25.13 @ 11:30 am

Our pants look a little washed out (faded).

With the old blue, the pants should be the color of the heinz field seats. Then we could have gold/yellow out games. And the empty seats would blend right in with the fans/players.

This seems pretty simple to me.

Comment by EMel 05.25.13 @ 11:34 am

On the basketball front.

JJ Moore is getting help from JD in finding a new school. So he’s a goner

Pitt just cannot beat ND in anything – it is a conspiracy.

Comment by Frank MD 05.25.13 @ 11:52 am

Congrats to the domers. Close game and tuff loss to stomach men. Could not be prouder of your effort in the BEast Tourney! Hate to loose some of our talent in the upcoming draft but that will be to the kids benefit! H2P! UPone

Comment by UPone 05.25.13 @ 12:14 pm

That we lasted longer than the top seeds…and played a game the morning after an xtra innings affair…will that earn us a WS bid?

Comment by steve1 05.25.13 @ 12:22 pm

That was a fun tournament. I should watch more college baseball. ACC channel here I come.

Comment by Chris 05.25.13 @ 12:52 pm

Was just looking for the Pitt baseball score.

Not very easy to find any info at all even on the official NCAA site. What a joke !

link to ncaa.com

Yahoo/rivals ncaa baseball page is a joke as well.

Speaking of conspiracy’s, seems to be one in not covering college baseball !

Comment by EMel 05.25.13 @ 1:21 pm

More coverage of girls softball, go figure !

Comment by EMel 05.25.13 @ 1:22 pm

Omg, they have us ranked at #65

link to ncaa.com

Don’t see them inviting us to WS with that ranking.

Comment by EMel 05.25.13 @ 1:26 pm

haha

Ped State is ranked #226. lol

That made my day !

Comment by EMel 05.25.13 @ 1:29 pm

I heard Steve is bringing back the Panthersaurus for the ACC!

Comment by Dan 05.25.13 @ 2:30 pm

Boys baseball has Regionals, ten you have to win to go to Super Regionals and then if you win that Super Regional you go to the World Series. Schedule RPI is what is doing us in. Either way it was a great season. Congrats to the team. Next year we enter one of te best baseball conferences in the ACC.

Comment by Upittbaseball 05.25.13 @ 3:03 pm

Notre Dame apparently catching a little of the Pitt law problems:

Starting quarterback Everett Golson is no longer enrolled at Notre Dame, the university confirmed in an email to ESPN.com on Saturday night.

“Everett is not enrolled at the university. Federal law and our own polices preclude us from discussing specifics,” spokesman Dennis Brown said in an email.

check this out.

I’ve notice this on other sites besides this one.

The type set used for “Pittsburgh” appears to be smaller than the other schools listed.

**************

Great to be in a conference with a legacy of
academics and athletics. In addition the
ACC has outstanding leadership (Swafford).
BE BB was great however ACC BB will
be as competitive and exciting. Plus
ACC FB will be so much better than the BE.
Now we need several strong recruiting classes
in FB. The purge of players from the former
regimes appears to be over. Better times
ahead!!!!

Comment by JR 05.26.13 @ 6:41 am

Emel, it looks like it’s because it’s a variable-width font. Thus, itt runs close together. Illinois appears to have that effect as well.

Comment by panther94 05.26.13 @ 10:05 am

That cover would look so money with Street in the script! Makes so much sense, new conference and fresh start. But if Smiley doesn’t do it now, he never will. We will have to wait to the next AD!

Comment by Sweet Caroline 05.26.13 @ 10:08 am

@wbb, sounds like her denial is a lie.

Comment by panther94 05.26.13 @ 10:09 am

I would like an honest opinion …. among all Pitt fans (not just those on this site) .. what do you think is preferred … Script, Block or Panthersaurus?

Comment by wbb 05.26.13 @ 10:34 am

I’m going to show my ignorance here…what is the panthersaurus?

Comment by panther94 05.26.13 @ 11:18 am

I like the script, but i don’t like that bright yellow color.

Comment by moe greene 05.26.13 @ 11:51 am

Since kids do not learn Cursive in school anymore maybe most (HA HA)would not recognize the Script but I still like it is we enter ACC.

More worried about FB recruiting.

Comment by Frank MD 05.26.13 @ 11:58 am

Hopefully with Revis and Fitzgerald Pitt moves to number 2 on this list. Cuse not far behind.

Script without question…

Comment by Outlaw 05.26.13 @ 12:25 pm

wbb, good link to the Rutgers saga… wow it shows what kind of people run college athletics…

Definitely second that the cover shows perfectly how ugly our uniform is… the color is depressing and there is no Script….

… maybe someone will finally have the balls to ‘slap’ SP upside the head and snap him out of his stubborn, prideful, inability to admit his marketing mistake and change course…. yeah, and pigs can fly… oh well.

Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Comment by Pittscript 05.26.13 @ 12:35 pm

Connecticut about to steal a bid by beating Notre Dame in Big East championship.

How many bids will the Big East get…

UCONN – automatic
Louisville – Lock
ND, SH, Pitt and USF – Bubble

Very few teams have won 40 games in a season and not gotten a bid.

That SOS is terrible at 200 but we did win 20 games against Big East competition. We did sweep Notre Dame in the regular season and lost two tough ones to them in the tourney. We swept Wichita State at Witchita State. That team is a regular in the tourney and won the Missouri Valley auto bid this year. We also beat Seton Hall in our only head to head this year…

Maybe… but I think we are going to miss.

Comment by Pantherman 05.26.13 @ 12:57 pm

6 of the 8 Pitt Pro Football Hall of Famers played in the Script Helmet and the old colors. (those being Dorsett, Marino, Doleman, Jackson, Grimm & Martin)

The other two (Ditka & Schmidt) played in the plain gold helmets ala ND.

It should be obvious……..Script !!

Comment by EMel 05.26.13 @ 1:31 pm

Script by a land slide! We’ve said it before, no other uni’s like them in the country! The current colors are too similar to many others! They are boring and plain! Look at a lot if professional teams and they have cursive! It just looks classy but futuristic at the same time! Administration should at least have a throwback game which would make sense! Frustrating that this AD doesn’t get it and will never get it!

Comment by Sweet Caroline 05.26.13 @ 2:12 pm

Pitt’s HOF’ers played fairly recently as opposed to some of the other top schools.

We should be so much better than we are !!!

Comment by EMel 05.26.13 @ 2:22 pm

Pantherman, SH will get it because of the schedule. The big East is very weak compared to the other conferences. lville SH and UCONN. 30 wins in the ACC or SEC or Big 12 trump 43 in Big East. Rubber meats the road next season if lville won the big East or SH we had a chance but not now.

Comment by Upittbaseball 05.26.13 @ 3:25 pm

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@’@@@@@

Script plus the old colors. Unique to Pitt.

Comment by JR 05.26.13 @ 6:53 pm

Also, sure, some younger fans and kids in school today won’t feel an attachment to the Pitt script.

If you just asked them randomly, they’d probably say, “I don’t know, whatever”.

Also, some fans may say the same thing, “ah, I don’t know, as long as they win”.

I understand that.

But, if you could sit down with those same kids, and a few fans, and talk to them for an hour, show them some history, show the uniqueness, show some of the greatest players in college football history, that played the game with Pitt script on their helmet, I’m sure most of them would then say, “Pitt script of course”.

Yes, you’d still have a few I don’t cares, you would have that in any question you’d ask anyone.

I also know, Pitt didn’t start wearing it until the early 70’s.

However, it is the single most identifiable thing that associates Pitt with Pitt football, and the years where Pitt was on top of the heap for a good period of time.

It then became associated with all sports, and associated with the university itself.

IMHO

Comment by dan 05.26.13 @ 7:59 pm

Everyone should also know, there is only one last shot.

That would be at the ACC announcement day. I’m assuming there will be one. Who knows, mayble it’ll just be a blurb on the Pitt website.

My hope meter is at about 5%. You would have thought someone somewhere would have heard and or leaked something, but I’ve seen nothing.

So, it’s just about a moot point.

Coming out on game night against FSU???

And miss all the summer sales and building it up??? The guy selling swamp land in Fla. knows better than that.

Nope, introduction day to the ACC, last shot.

Faint hope?? Very faint, not fooling myself.

It would be Steve admitting a mistake. He will not do that. I know some of these types. Not in their mindset.

Funny thing is, he could even crack a joke about it, laugh it off as he would bring back the Pitt script, and everyone would forgive him, on at least the Pitt script that is.

Had a boss just like him once. NO WAY!!!

Hail to Pitt!!

Comment by dan 05.26.13 @ 8:07 pm

I would settle for just one throwback game a year at this point. From an income standpoint, that’s an extra revenue stream from jersey and other clothing sales plus a crazy amount of good PR. There’s a fear of “giving a mouse a cookie” with the fans but I would risk it if I were the Pitt AD. We already cause enough trouble on that front.

Comment by Levance's Headband 05.26.13 @ 9:28 pm

Sorry to shoot a hole in the Pitt script argument, but the University in general owns the rights to sales of the script merchandise. The athletic department alone gets all the revenue from teh block Pitt merchandise. The athletic department is not going to remove themselves from that cash to listen to the demands of fans like us.

Comment by KeyboardKev 05.26.13 @ 10:01 pm

@kev…you’re not shooting a hole in anything. First of all, it’s a preference, not an argument. Secondly, who’s fault is it that the ath dept is tied to this!

Comment by panther94 05.27.13 @ 12:22 am

Disappointing end to baseball season–especially if they don’t make the NCAAs. But baseball is a sport that’s very nature makes even a double elimination tourney less than ideal for determining the best team(s). There is a reason for long seasons and best 3 of 5 or 4 of 7 playoffs used by the major leagues, afterall.

Comment by pitt1972 05.27.13 @ 12:32 am

Any status on Pitt basketball recruiting to fill remaining open slots? what about 2014 class?

What is status of Pitt football recruiting?
I know it doesn’t look good, but any camps, etc coming up?

Comment by Pitt.Dan83 05.27.13 @ 6:59 am

Panther94, That’s the “Dinosauer Head” panther that Steve (and his graphic artist henchman) introduced as part of the Pitt “New Look” years ago. Doesn’t look much like a panther. Have also heard it referred to as the “Dog Head” panther. It seems to have mercifully disappeared from Pitt gear for the time being.

Comment by The Hagen 05.27.13 @ 8:32 am

Comment by Upittbaseball 05.27.13 @ 9:09 am

@KeyboardKev, sorry, but like in any business, the head man (Mark Nordenberg), and the board (board of trustees) could handle that matter in about an hour, that is an old story that does not hold water.

Minor paperwork with a couple layers if they wanted it. Pitt athletic department keeps any sports related funds, university in general keeps notebooks with Pitt script on it or any letterhead from the law school or engineering school etc. etc. (any non athletic related).

Small potatos if the top people at the company (Pitt) wanted this to happen.

Non-issue.

Hopefully the Dinosaur will suffer from not buying it on stuff. Its extinction rests on how much money it makes.

Comment by Frank MD 05.27.13 @ 9:52 am

@Levance’s headband, great name my friend!!!

Funny, just personal opinions on all of this, and I’m a big Pitt script guy, and I respect all opinions. Return to script, a throwback, or none. Everyone has their thoughts.

I myself, say either do it, or don’t do it at all.

I have no reasoning for this, just the way I feel about it.

Enjoy Memorial Day to day, and officially Thursday.

Thank you to all that gave all and anyone who may know some of these people. And, thank you to all who served!!!

Comment by Dan 05.27.13 @ 9:54 am

I guess I do have a reasoning.

I’ve seen a few other schools do this, and it really makes the uniform look dated and stands out as “old”.

Whereas, if you brought it back, and made it the uniform, after 2 or 3 games, and at the very most the first season, it would be back to normal like nothing ever happened.

It’s only 15 years ago, not like it’s something from the 1940’s or 50’s.

Like I said, moot anyhow, but a good release for me on here.

Comment by Dan 05.27.13 @ 10:04 am

Pitt Panthers are welcome to Lane Stadium to play the Hokies! (Dino-cat helments? not so much!)
