If there was any doubt that J.J. Moore was leaving Pitt, Coach Jamie Dixon took care of that today.

Pitt men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon said Tuesday that he is trying to help forward J.J. Moore find a new school for his final season of eligibility.

Dixon said he doesn’t know if Moore, who turns 22 next week, has filed transfer papers with Pitt.

“We are trying to help him find a school,” Dixon said. “We are trying to help him find the right place.”

Unanswered is not simply where he is heading, but why. The obvious issue would be playing time, but it still doesn’t make sense for a senior to transfer when he has to sit another year. The fact that Moore may or may not have even filed transfer papers adds to the confusion. I have trouble believing Dixon is pushing him out of the program, yet there are so many missing pieces of information to this story that it can’t be considered a possibility.

Dixon also said Cam Wright is taking summer courses — but if you want to read into things, it isn’t exactly saying that Wright isn’t or didn’t think about a transfer. Of course, Wright lost his father this past season. It wouldn’t be outrageous for him to be thinking about transferring to a school like Akron, Kent St. or Cleveland St. if he wanted to be closer to the rest of his family in Cleveland.

Sorry to see JJ go. He seemed to have a good attitude. I do not think he was a good fit in the PF spot, but he played it to help the team.
I had hoped that he would be a driving/finishing SF. But he rarely showed the desire (or was it ability?) to drive to the rim…or draw a foul while trying.

Ok lets get down to facts we will need 3 players
now before next year and if cam goes 4.
slice needs to get hot.
we will need depth if nothing else.
i wish we had offical word on kane one way or the
outher.
and there is no buzz out there like there was
2 weeks ago i dont have a idea who they are
looking at now at least not yet but i will keep diging.

If Wright leaves, which Dixon’s comments all but assure that he is at least considering it, that would mean that 8 of the last 11 players that we signed to NLOI’s left the program. Only Jones, Robinson, and Johnson remain from the 2010 and 2011 classes if Wright leaves. A few transfers, you can write off. When most of your team leaves a program as successful as Pitt, a coach as accomplished as Dixon, there is a BIG problem that nobody is talking about. I could see if Jamie just inherited a new team of players he didnt recruit or didnt fit his style but he’s been in the game a long time. Something is going on over there. Hopefully, Slice is the cure-all but we’ll see.

I have never seen this type of roster turnover and there wasn’t a coaching change.
Sure, 1 transfer per year is expected and probably a good thing. Clearly there is a problem and it’s not about playing time.

What is really going on? Won’t be a 10 man rotation this year.

Comment by gc 05.15.13 @ 7:47 am

I always thought that JJ would turn the corner and be a star. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.
Very disappointing.

panther digest tony greco said if kane and
acraf yacoubou sign with pitt and acraf vist next week it would give dixon 12 players.
But acraf yacoubou would have to sit out a year
dont know if greco missed that fact.
so he would not help us this year so we would still
have only 11 which is not enough.

It escapes me how players who are one of two years from getting a degree transfer. Will their new school accept their credits toward their degree? Thinking only of FB or BB leaves me wondering.

NEWS flash info for you was just posted Kane to
pitt was premature it is not a done deal.
so we could be back to 10 and if cam goes then
down to 9.
somebody at pitt needs to wake the fuck up.
and as been posted above bye outhers what is really going on with pitt basketball i think it is time to find out what is wrong what is really the problem.

Comment by FRANKCAN 05.15.13 @ 10:32 am

Frank,
Kane can’t become “official” until he finishes some courses this summer for his degree. That is why he can’t sign yet.

Comment by Pitt.Dan83 05.15.13 @ 11:56 am

PITT,DAN83 no this is something different he might
have changed his mind.
it is no longer a sure thing it is not a done deal and might not be.
may be he was told he cant be a ball hug i dont know why but it is to bad.

Comment by FRANKCAN 05.15.13 @ 12:08 pm

Frank,
I was surprised Kane was interested in Pitt and even more suprised that Pitt was interested in Kane. Seemed like a desparation move by Dixon.
Clearly Kane does not fit into Dixon system.
I looked at it as roster filler. Heck, they need at least 10 players just to run a practice.

Comment by Pitt.Dan83 05.15.13 @ 12:54 pm

pitt,Dan83 anf if kane does not come and JJ and
cam leave we are down to 9 player even counting the 4 we have signed.
i would like to know what is really going on with pitt BB something has happened i just dont know what

*BREAKING NEWS*
If you give 10 players playing time, there all gonna think they should play more..and therefore think their better than they really are…so I’m not reall surprised at all of this movement….yet another bonehead move by dixon

Comment by Keith 05.15.13 @ 6:36 pm

Is Coach Dixon really interested in 7’3″, 300# Tanveer Bhullar (sp?)?
A couple of years ago there was talk of his older brother Sim being recruited by Pitt when he was at Kiski Prep.

Comment by xfmrman 05.15.13 @ 7:53 pm

There is a change of culture in Pitt basketball.
I didn’t like the path that lead to the last 2 seasons. Mediocrity is not something to aspire to achieve…ever…
But I don’t sense anything other than mediocre players leaving.
Is there a purpose? I don’t think the 13-14 version of Pitt hoops is being sculpted for a final 4 run stocked with 1 and dones either.
My sense is that slice will have a big recruiting budget and leverage to bring in 4 quick recruits.
That means that our first year in the ACC will be a struggle.

Comment by SFPitt 05.15.13 @ 9:02 pm

Maybe Dixon thinks his style needs a big change to compete in the ACC. ACC more athletic compared to rough BE. A transition year is coming.

Comment by Frank MD 05.15.13 @ 9:13 pm

I don’t claim to have any inside knowledge but off of recent events I agree that there is a problem under the surface at Pitt. One is left to guess and here is mine. In the current climate of college basketball it is extremely difficult to attract players and retain them, particularly when the coach has a mindset grounded in gone by era. Dixon is a demanding, controlling, defensive minded head coach. He has more confidence in his ability to coach than most and less tolerance for anyone in his program who doesn’t conform to his way. He has a proven track record that succeeds to a degree and he is unwilling to bend to the modern AAU pampered talent “put the focus on me” style of play. I am pretty sure Dixon will find a way to continue to throw top 20 teams on the floor and more importantly I think he thinks he will. I think he is still struggling to fix what got broke 2 years ago ,and it looks to me like he is cleaning the house and putting the furniture he wants in place. This guy isn’t stupid by any means and he is tough too. Don’t be surprised when his group of nobodies holds there own in the ACC and beats some teams they shouldn’t. He won’t cheat to do it, and he will run the team not the kids. He will do what Dixon does and it looks to me like he has the backing of the plaid set at Pitt so we had better get used to it.

Well written spiritofsection 22.

Comment by sfpitt 05.16.13 @ 8:03 pm

8 of the last 11 scholarship players gone, if Wright and Moore leave. That is pathetic, and inexcusable. Even if they stay, 6 of 11 is bad. I agree, there is something wrong here. But I don’t think it has anything to do with Dixon’s “style”, unless competence is part of “style.”

Comment by PO'd Panther 05.16.13 @ 9:59 pm

PO’d, In my opinion you are wrong to question competence as JD has an impressive record of success by any reasonable standard.
