LiveBlog: Pitt-ND 2012

It’s been 11 years since I last went to South Bend, Indiana. No kids. Not yet married. Able to engage in general abuse of my body and mind with less consequences later.

Guess it is time for a return trip to that dismal state. Taking a trip with Pauly P who was foolish nice enough to invite me to join him on the drive.

I’ll be tweeting during the day (probably).

Game time is 3:30 Eastern. It airs on NBC.

Luke has volunteered to test his sanity by running a liveblog today.

It’s a moderated chat. Luke has full control to ban, limit and otherwise exercise dictatorial control over things. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Almost ten o’clock in the morning and a cold front has moved in.

Kickoff is not for several hours but the good news is “We’re still in this one!”

Not wavering. Believe Tino could surprise. But the advent of the charges against Street, Graham and Pitts… A BAD, BAD OMEN.

Seeing a Notre Dame jacket being worn by a nurse at the doctor’s office yesterday could be too.

However,being that as it may… it’s GAMEDAY!!

Time to “MASON UP” or take a seat on the bench!!!

SHOCK THE WORLD!!!

Pitt has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Win or lose its our Pitt Panthers. HTP

Wipe the smirk off Kelly’s face day.

Steve Adams led his team in steals last night. Thats Blairish.

Comment by alcofan 11.03.12 @ 12:36 pm

Upitt,

Line started at 17-18 points; at last check it was down to 16 or 16.5 points. Must have been some action on Pitt this week to cover, and since the betting public is usually wrong I’m starting to get a little worried…..and I may have to apologize to my buddy at work (he’s a Tar Heel fan and I live in ACC country) for boldly proclaiming earlier this week that Pitt was going to make things awfully tough for Notre Dame today……

The DREADED Blue pants. Who makes these decisions?

A win would be easier with the Gold… but guess we got to go with it!

I’m going to go with the defacto Stevie P answer in honor of all the Fire Steve P. members

I dare anyone who has been critcal of Chryst to come on here and challenge his ability as a coach.

This Pitt team just took the best Notre Dame team in years to the brink and would have won if they just had a field goal kicker who could be relied upon and if not for a bogus interference call by some homer referee.

My God. Be happy Pitt finally has a real football coach who is going to win a lot more games going foreward than you would have ever thought possible.

Comment by PittofDreams 11.03.12 @ 8:11 pm

I think some of his play calling gave Notre Dame a chance to get back in the game. He did a good job but not great.

Comment by Upittbaseball 11.03.12 @ 8:23 pm

Dude,

How long was the field goal missed by Harper?

Maybe when Chryst elected to forego Harper against Louisville he knew what he was doing?

PC has got it going on. He’s a great strategist who puts his players in a position to win, over and over again. Time for all of the pessimists to recognize that!!

Much better days ahead!!

Comment by PittofDreams 11.03.12 @ 8:34 pm

Tough tough game. As touch as the loss to FSU in 1980 but the team showed us and everyone that they can play with anyone. Congratulations on a great game Pitt.

Comment by Frank MD 11.03.12 @ 8:40 pm

Coaching lost a game many high school coaches would have won. He is a bad game day coach, how many games is this he has lost us? I count 3.

Comment by Upittbaseball 11.03.12 @ 8:47 pm

No offense in the 4th and overtimes. This loss hurts but I’m proud of the effort and this team. We killed the spread! Keep the effort up for the rest of the season and we could start the new year upbeat for a change. HTP!

Comment by barreman 11.03.12 @ 8:52 pm

Upittbaseball , Absolutely, I can’t for the life of me understand why didn’t he have a play to put the ball in the middle of the field for that FG attempt. He is in way over his head.

Comment by Native Washingtonian 11.03.12 @ 10:33 pm

Not a shock. Same Pitt curse we’ve been living with for 20-30 years. Only needed to make the FG after an amazing break at the goal line to win and they couldn’t do it. Once again Pitt couldn’t close the deal. Agree with Upittbaseball why didn’t Graham move to the center of the field. Why didn’t PC coach them to do so. This could have been a signature will on national TV, great PR and recruiting impact but noooo. That would be what programs on rise do. So let’s all revel in the suckyness that is mediocrity and endlessly discuss what could have been. No offense in the 4th quarter, one good drive with a score taking time off the clock wins the game. PC way too conservative, hey Paul its not like you were up by 24 pts. In the end no one will remember how close Pitt came t winning when ND is playing for a national championship. Same old Pitt can’t win the signature game. Don’t see anything changing anytime soon. ACC will more of the same, close but no cigar. Lets see how does the company line go, just wait till next year, we are progressing, give the program some time to develop, blah blah blah. Just another LOSS in my book.

Comment by LUV PITTBULLS 11.03.12 @ 11:21 pm

Pantherlair cites that Pitt gained 4 yards total on the last 18 plays of the game. Unbelievable!

Comment by DJS 11.03.12 @ 11:58 pm

Paul Chryst is not a HC just as simple as that, he’s a Coordinator and that’s it. I believe the game was really lost when he called 3 straight pass plays after the INT in the endzone. You would think that after ND snuffed out that Play Action play, you’d see a run, right? Wrong. Instead 3 straight passes and a punt, not a recipe for a victory. We need to fire Steve Pederson first and then get Wanny back as the AD. I cannot stand stupidity by HCs. I am the first person that will defend a HC, but when you see 3 straight passes at the end of a game. You have to place it on the HC.

Comment by Native Washingtonian 11.04.12 @ 12:24 am

Read dockish panther prey as he said chryst is not a game day coach just as wanny was not.
he has done some things better but unless he lurns what to do after the kick off he is just
a OC in a head coachs clothing.

Comment by FRANKCAN 11.04.12 @ 12:22 pm

We would have won had they won the Gold Pants.
What did Notre Dame dictate that too (since they were wearing gold pants)!

Cause we just won ON THE ROAD WITH THE GOLD, AND lost and looked hideous doing so against Cuse in blue pants. So common sense says they wear what they won in and looked better. THE GOLD FRICKIN PANTS !!

The clothes rants is milder than what my game analysis rant would be, so I opted for for the former. 🙂

Comment by Emel 11.04.12 @ 11:54 pm

Only 22 comments, wtf.

Is our fan base dwindling that fast?

Somehow, whether it’s ref induced, bonehead HC decisions or whatever we always manage to lose these types of game.

But I did predict we’d lose, as nothing imo will keep ND out of the NC game this year.

K-State and Oregon will lose in upsets and wallah you got ND & Alabama. And if you’ve read how many breaks ND has gotten this year against the Purdues, the Michigans, the Standfords, the BYU’s, & the PITT’s to barely win games, it seems to be in the cards, so to speak.

Call it what u want. lol

Comment by Emel 11.05.12 @ 12:04 am

Chryst’s “conservativeness” had him a 2 touchdown lead in the 4th quarter against the 3rd ranked team in the country… The gameplan in the 4th was not the problem… the execution of it was… as usual. C’mon guys, smarten up!

Comment by Pitt2Cali 11.05.12 @ 12:43 am

Emel, Notre Dame isn’t very good at all. USC is bad but they will beat ND. Even if they win out they don’t play in championship. Oregon and Bama.
