Recruited for Somewhere On Offense

Pitt got a verbal yesterday, Reginald (or Reggie) Green out of New Jersey. He plays quarterback and safety, but is considered to be an “athlete.”

“The area is beautiful,” Green said. “The school, the campus, the city. The coaching staff was really great. The players I talked to were really nice, good people. It just felt like I place I felt at home at.”

Green picked Pitt over Temple. He had also received offers from Boston College, UMass, Michigan State, N.C. State, Rutgers and Central Florida.

“They project me as an athlete on the offensive side of the ball,” Green said.

Scout.com and 24/7 both consider him a 3-star recruit. Rivals.com puts him down for 2-stars.

Depending on which measurables you go with, he is anywhere from 190 to 210 pounds on a 6-3 frame. Suggesting that he will either end up at WR or as a halfback/TE as he develops. A few years ago, he would have been pegged as the kind of player expected to be used in “wildcat” formations, but that no longer seems so fashionable.

Quietly, Pitt now has 18 verbals — which still includes the increasingly soft one from Corey Clement. Hard to imagine Pitt will be taking many more verbals until the decisions of Dorian Johnson, Robert Foster and Tyler Boyd are known.

only a kid from Jersey would think the Pitt campus is beautiful

Chryst obviously has an established connection in New Jersey.

Speaking of New Jersey, the biggest name recruited out of the state looks more and more like a great catch for Chryst.

My apologies if it was already posted, but Corey Clement had a game earlier in the season where he rushed for more than 400 yards and seven TDs.

You know a lot of people have questioned Chryst’s ability to recruit mostly due to his seeming low-key personality and small-town manner.

That doesn’t seem to be a problem for recruits or their families or their coaches.

My guess is with a win (fingers crossed) against Syracuse this week and a BIG WIN against Louisville next week… Chryst’s phone is going to be ringing as the holdouts start phoning it in.

I would point out that he has 11.25 speed in the 100m … but don’t want to offend Joe D

I am sure green will be a good player but i would like to see a OT or OG or DT who is over 6 foot 4
and at least 300 pounds i dont even care if he has no stars but i do think we need big bodys and less DB.

I think there is a good chance RB corey clement
leaves us decommits so i hope they have another
RB who they can pick up if he does.

Not sure how many of you have been paying attention to local Pittsburgh news… but Oakland has been pretty scary lately (just check PPG, or associated even). Just relevant because of Dorian J’s comment about safety / his concerns. It has always been edgy, but I’ve never seen such a string of robberies in such a short time.

Oakland can be very beautiful in the Fall. Some of my fondest memories are changing classes with the leaves turning on campus. But…..the comment about New Jersey was right on.

Frank is right. We need lineman, on both sides of the ball. Let Clement leave to play in that b.s. spread offense. He says he wants to be like Shady McCoy…then he better come to Pitt and play in the pro style. His choice. We don’t need him.

Hail. To. Pitt.

Okay, so maybe we don’t need lineman as badly as I thought.

We only lose Jacobson and Turnley next year. Rowell has already gotten some positive feedback in training camp and we should be fine at center, and I’m sure we can find somebody to step in and play guard next season. Most of the guys on the 2nd team are Sophs or Freshmen, so there is some youth.

Soo…in light of all that, I think we can get away with only recruiting 2-3 OL’s this year, but if that happens next year, but definitely not in 2014.

FYI…Here is a look at the two deep as posted on Rivals:

Tackle
78 Cory King | 6-6, 325, RS JR
69 Adam Bisnowaty | 6-6, 275, FR

Tackle
74 Matt Rotheram | 6-6, 335, RS SO
52 Zenel Demhasaj | 6-7, 325, RS JR

Guard
54 Chris Jacobson | 6-3, 295, RS SR
56 Arthur Doakes | 6-6, 340, RS SO

Guard
76 Ryan Schlieper | 6-5, 310, RS JR
64 Shane Johnson | 6-5, 325, RS SO

Center
75 Ryan Turnley | 6-6, 320, RS SR
57 Artie Rowell | 6-2, 300, RS FR

You can never have enough good linemen. Need Dorian for sure and at least another big bruzer. Hopefully, there is a DL recruit still left out there.

Comment by TX Panther 10.03.12 @ 1:11 pm

Ditto on the “we need more linemen” concept. And I’m concerned about the “the increasingly soft one from Corey Clement”. Thank God at least nowdays there are effective medications for that. Hopefully he’ll still commit and we can firm that up a bit.

I noticed the 2nd team OL above seems to have the beef that Chryst seems to prefer. I believe (actually, it’s more hope) that this staff are better teachers than recuiters and will optimize the talent it has to work with … nonetheless, still would love to bring in Johnson

Comment by wbb 10.03.12 @ 4:24 pm

Green has got all the tools. Plus I made the point earlier on an another site Green is only 20 minutes away from another high level recruit. Al Rasheed Benton a four star backer is in driving distance and could use some recruit recruiting. Green was influenced by other 2013 recruits like Soto.
I have feeling Clement stays. He planned on enrolling early, which leaves him a short 3 months to find a new home, finish high school, and complete his season.
As for DLineman Zach Moody and Kenton Gibbs are big boys with high recruiting marks. They both have Pitt high on their list. We definetenly need a couple more big OL. Dojo of course and maybe one more. Look for a class of 22-23.
