Sweat But Do Not Panic

There has to be concerns at this kind of news/rumor. Just trying to keep from hyperventilating.

We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. It is never easy.

Twitter = Biggest Rumor Mill; quite literally, in every sense of the word.

yeesh people.

No, No. no…don’t tell me this. This kid won’t sit out a year. The vultures(sports agents) of the NBA, will be all over his carcass and we will be left high & dry. Murphy’s law !

Comment by Emel 03.27.12 @ 3:06 pm

Everyone knew academics were going to be a focus. Concern = not good right now or Concern = the reason he is stateside in the first place?

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 03.27.12 @ 3:15 pm

Yes, lets not believe any rumors unless Chas starts them.

Comment by velvil 03.27.12 @ 3:27 pm

remember, this is Pitt

My theory is that someone at Pitt sold his soul to the devil for the ’76 National Championship. Remember, in ’77, we were a Matt Cavanaugh injury away froma possible repeat .. and from 79 thru 81, we were 1 loss away from the same.

We did have good fortune in BB this past decade … but apparently it was only a tease ….. damn you Satan!! (oh, that’s right, you already are)

Comment by wbb 03.27.12 @ 3:30 pm

Sleepy can handle C next year!!!!

Comment by Dan 03.27.12 @ 3:49 pm

PANIC!!!!!!!

Comment by Greg 03.27.12 @ 3:51 pm

I recently head a rumor that Steve Adams would never play for Pitt but I though the rumor was just that. But it looks like we may get stung, again. Ouch!

Comment by MariettaMIke 03.27.12 @ 4:21 pm

I know that I have expressed my concern about his academics based on the fact that he was almost totally uneducated ( A TRUE STREET KID)until about 4 or 5 years ago.

I don’t think this is a rumor…I hate to say this,I believe it is fact. Adams comes from about as bad a background as one could possibly imagine and it is very much to his credit that he has reached this far. Adams has always been an academic stretch. Let’s hope that a way can be found to tutor him to a point that enables him to meet minimum NCAA standards.

Comment by isnore 03.27.12 @ 4:33 pm

I don’t know how you people could think something bad will happen with Adams! We have used all of our bad luck up in the last 14 months! Right?
Oh wait, Pitt plays again tonight…well, maybe after tonight!

Comment by Dan 72 03.27.12 @ 4:35 pm

Over the years I have learned that Pitt has an inexhaustible supply of bad luck. Our well never runs dry.

Comment by dinosaur 71 03.27.12 @ 6:23 pm

This is all tinos fult fuck if we dident have bad luck we would not have luck at all if he doesnt come we will rank last in ACC we have a no talent
team as it is at this time.
may be we win 8 games next year if that with out him.

Comment by Frankcan 03.27.12 @ 7:13 pm

Please dont be true. Pitts bad luck is never-ending. I once read on a post gazette comment section after graham left, a die hard auburn fan posted a comment. He said “if theres a team anywhere in the country that could use a run of good luck, its pitt”. Aint that the fuckin truth? Pitts due for a hot streak so loong and so unbelievable, not what she said, that itd embarass that of alabamas, floridas, and ohio states combined. Adams needs to be eligible. He just has to. If he cant get eligible, pitt is in such a deep hole position wise and talent wise that could take 2 or 3 years to get out of.

Comment by Pk 03.27.12 @ 7:45 pm

Dixon better have someone in mind, in case there’s some merit to this. You ALWAYS need a backup plan, Plan B whatever. If he gets caught unawares by this, serious concerns abode.

I still say dump Epps & Wright and bring in two more players regardless of Adams. Whatever happened to the 20 & 20 Juco kid from CA. And the big 2 guard from NC. Also there is Robinson’s teamate from DeMatha, the big bulky center.

Comment by EMel 03.27.12 @ 8:04 pm

You’re right Frankcan, the curse of Santino is now effecting the basketball program. haha

Comment by EMel 03.27.12 @ 8:06 pm

Somebody give Sonny a lift to the NJ Turnpike tollbooth please. FRankcan you are nominated. lol

Comment by EMel 03.27.12 @ 8:08 pm

Emel, robinsons teammate beejay anya is a 2013 recruit. Dixon stopped recruiting young and graham(ca and nc). I dont know why. Hes recruiting a jc pf and a jc sg hard though

Comment by Pk 03.27.12 @ 8:10 pm

On the pther hand, it seems like every player has academic questions. Birch and john johnson had major grade issues so hopefully adams finds a way

Comment by Pk 03.27.12 @ 8:15 pm

Sonny got whacked on the causeway from Atlantic Beach to Queens, not in New Jersey….If Adams is ineligible or whatever, that would suck BIG TIME.

Comment by SilverPanther in NYC 03.27.12 @ 8:59 pm

One semester of grades stateside is not going to make or break getting the kid into college. I’m sure this is Adam’s working on getting SAT’s/ACT scores up thus the extra study time over a tourney that he has nothing to prove in – remember, he’s already committed to Pitt and is a future lottery pick. It sounds like someone trying to make waves on Twitter and get some hits on his blog.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 03.27.12 @ 9:45 pm

Being a Pitt fan SUCKS. But I love it.

Comment by Tony C 03.27.12 @ 11:38 pm

Tossing Thabeets you certainly can be on target. Dixon should be doing anything and everything within legal limits to help this kid get eligible.

If you listened to any of his interviews or no about his background this kid is no problem child. He appears to be an hardworking outstanding young man that was denied by no fault of his own opportunities that our pampered prima donna H.S. atheltese take for granted and take advantage of the system.

From a basketball stand point their is no one in high school committed or uncommitted or presently playing in college that can is in this kids league. I have not seen a center with his skill since Duncan, David Robinson, or dare I say Bill Walton.

My brother played on the Fox Chapel high school team in the late sixities that had 2 6’11” twins, the Nelson brothers who went to Duesquene when it was a cradle of bigtime basketball, the ACC was not a power at that time. One of the Nelsons was Jabar’s backup at Milwakee when they won the NBA title. They both played in the NBA.

He went to see Adams play at Ambridge and said there was no comparison Adams was on another level. The comparison he used was Nelson’s nemisis in college Bob Lanier but that Adams was quicker than Lanier.

Comment by drw 03.28.12 @ 9:05 am

drw, exactly – I’m sure Dixon brought him over here to get qualified. The high school basketball is just icing on the cake. If you’re trying to get eligible, why leave school and play in a tourney that won’t help you? Dixon has a plan and most of his recruits get qualified. I could be wrong but Epps is the only one recently that I can think of.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 03.28.12 @ 3:39 pm

Heard Dixon is recruiting a PG from CCAC named Marcus Smith. Went to Perry and dominated the City League his Jr. and Sr. years. He’ll be playing in the Pro-Am in Greentree this year. Personally, have never seen someone with a better handle

Comment by Dylan 03.28.12 @ 9:37 pm

My opinion: If Steve Adams is that much of a risk to get into Pitt, Jamie should look else where. We don’t want to be another Kentucky, using semi-pro player’s who turn pro after their freshman or sophomore year and don’t even attend class. I’d rather have a losing season than compromise our principles. Winning is just not that important.
