This was merely a formality. Everyone knew. It’s been known. Even the settlement was known since last week. Just that now it is official. I know this is a shock, but the Big East didn’t actually post the press release they sent to the media.  Let’s take a read. Annotations supplied

The BIG EAST Conference Board of Directors has voted to terminate West Virginia University’s membership in the Conference, effective June 30, 2012. This vote is conditioned on WVU fulfilling its obligations under a settlement agreement with the Conference that resolves the litigation between the parties.

You can’t quit. I’m firing you first. Right after I filed that lawsuit to keep you.

“West Virginia University has acknowledged and agreed that the Court in Monongalia County, West Virginia, will enter a judgment that the BIG EAST Conference Bylaws are valid and enforceable, and will dismiss with prejudice all of West Virginia’s claims against the Conference.” stated John Marinatto Commissioner of the BIG EAST Conference.

Dear Pitt and Syracuse, screw you. No. This won’t help you. If you even consider a lawsuit, this settlement means nothing for giving you a loophole to go out on the cheap.

The Bylaws establish the circumstances by which a member may unilaterally withdraw from the Conference, which includes payment of an exit fee and a minimum of 27 months’ notice. The Bylaws also provide that the Conference may, by 3/4 vote, terminate the membership of any member and that is the process by which West Virginia University will depart as a member of The BIG EAST Conference.

In deciding to terminate West Virginia University’s membership, the Conference took into account the accusations that WVU asserted against the BIG EAST in the lawsuit that is now being dismissed. The Conference also took into account the steps that West Virginia University was willing to take to resolve the litigation, including the payment of an exit fee well in excess of that required by the Bylaws. In light of all of these factors, the BIG EAST Conference felt that it was in its best interest to terminate West Virginia University’s membership and conclude the litigation.

Cash money, bitches. We are getting paid.

The BIG EAST Conference wishes the West Virginia University student-athletes success in their future athletic endeavors.

Go f**k yourself.

With the recent addition of Boise State University, the University of Central Florida, the University of Houston, the University of Memphis, San Diego State University, Southern Methodist University, and the United States Naval Academy, the future for the BIG EAST Conference has never been brighter.

Oh, dear god what have we done? This is what we have coming? Well, $20 million can buy a lot of booze.

What’s worse is Pitt won’t get any of that money! Finally conference qill get a pay day…oh wait no we won’t…lol…Murphy’s law never let’s me down!

Tough schedule, but on the other hand, we pick up Boise State! If we wear yellow glasses will their field look green? (and maybe our uni’s will take on a mustard hue!)

Just announced….BE to let Pitt and Cuse out for 2013!

Comment by Dan 72 02.14.12 @ 4:37 pm

I think all the season ticket holders should file a class action suit against the BE and Marinatto for a devalued product w/o TCU and WVU.

Comment by giveitarest 02.14.12 @ 5:03 pm

WVU goes 7-5 with that schedule?

Dan, quit yankin’ our chain…

Very funny Chas. Good job.

The Big Least, through their incompetence, coerces schools to leave. Then they hold them hostage.
Good for the in-breds getting out.

Right now the only BE home games for Pitt in 2012 are Rutgers and Louisville. Doesn’t the BE guarantee x number of BE home games to each BE football school? But, just two?? Basis for a breach of contract action?

Comment by Pitt73Pete 02.14.12 @ 7:05 pm

Rutgers hired Darnell Dinkins as TE coach

So if Pitt and Syracuse have to stay in the Big Lease another year, will they get that settlement money too??????

The Hoopies are already getting d*cked by their new conference which is now known as Texas & Oklahoma and their well paid bitches. Or for short just: Texas, OU & bitches Conf.

Hoopies home schedule at Milan Pusshead stadium, only has 1 marque team, Oklahoma. The rest will be pretty much the dregs of the conference. None of which will be on TV anywhere but nowheresville USA. I doubt any will even be on a regional basis, since there are so few TV’s in WVa.

Enjoy hillbillies, in a few years we won’t even know you ever existed.

Just a thought how was there 3/4 vote to terminate WVU if Pederson just said that Pitt was informed of the BE decision on settlement, is that another thing that Pitt and Cuse couldn’t vote on? Seriously lets get out now

Hoopie AD Ollie Luck announced last night on a Hoopie call-in show a “quirk” in the 2013 schedule is that WVU will have only 4 home games. How is that gonna work out for the sale of moonshine in the Mountain State?

Comment by Panther Fan in Hoopieland 02.15.12 @ 8:30 am

So – what’s the chance of reducing ticket prices for next season since we’re basically playing a FBS caliber schedule & conference, not to mention a horrible home schedule.

If Boise ends up in the BE this year, that game BETTER be @ Pitt, but since we’re out after this season, I have a feeling Marrinato will screw us again.
