There’s not much to write at this point that I haven’t written before in the introductions for these games. Pitt is still in desperate need of a win. Not simply playing better. Not having a good effort. A win. Any way. Any how. Just find a way to win. I don’t care if the refs are bribed.

Hopefully Woodall is feeling better and got some more rust off his shot. Hopefully someone stood behind J.J. Moore during practice and tased him if he pulled up for a shot rather than attacking the basket. Maybe someone will lie to Talib Zanna and tell him that he slept through the first half so he’ll play more like he has been playing in the second half of games.

The game is on Root, along with MSG2, MASN, Altitude, Brighthouse, ESPN FullCourt and ESPN3.com starting at 7pm.

The liveblog rules should be familiar to all by now. It is a moderated chat. I realize how hard it is not to lose it these days, but insanity doesn’t do much for anyone. The abusive will find themselves blocked. Repetitive comments will be ignored.

Any word or thoughts on whether Woodall’s health is still improving? Wondering when he might start having an impact on the game…

Comment by Lou 01.25.12 @ 3:21 pm

Lou,

I hope he has a positive impact on the game, not negative like last game.

I see Malcom Gilbert getting some time tonight..

Comment by Yup 01.25.12 @ 3:42 pm

Surprisingly, Pitt is favored by 9.5 points!

Comment by velvil 01.25.12 @ 3:52 pm

Anyone heard if Taylor is playing tonight? I know he went down hard in practice the other day and hurt his back. I haven’t heard anything since.

Comment by Pantherman13 01.25.12 @ 4:13 pm

Taylor not playing would give Pitt a better chance of winning!

Comment by Dan 72 01.25.12 @ 4:48 pm

I have moved my Pitt car magnet to a new location, stepped only on cracks in every other sidewalk and prayed to every Greek God for a W.

Comment by sfpitt 01.25.12 @ 5:34 pm

Cannot believe anyone would make Pitt a 9.5 point favorite? Hopefully we can play loose and smart basketball. The biggest problem with losing streaks is the psychological effect of them.
Losing begats losing and the expectations of losing…

Holtz just announced on KDKA Pitt’s it!

Comment by Justinian 01.25.12 @ 6:49 pm

Getting Holtz is a big signing for Chryst and company. Let’s hope there’s a few more to look forward to by signing day next week. Hail to Pitt!

Comment by Justinian 01.25.12 @ 6:52 pm

Alright. We are off the schneid. Hail 2 Pitt and Tray Woodall!

Today changed my oplnion on two players, Woodall does make a difference, and Taylor is a bust. Now if Wright can make me wrong again we might have something.

Comment by Jimbo 01.25.12 @ 9:20 pm

Great line from the movie Blue Chips “I screw better when we win!!”

Comment by Dan 72 01.25.12 @ 9:22 pm

Jimbo the last few games are the first time I ever felt Wright could actually serve a purpose at some point… becoming much more aggressive, and even though he has very little offensive game right now he has been attacking the glass and showing signs of defensive potential.

So, I take back when I asked for his scholarship to be revoked in mid-December…

Comment by JW 01.25.12 @ 9:45 pm

woodall does make a difference…i don’t like that moore is not getting more minutes..taylor need to be the third option for big men..i’d even go small and play moore at power forward…lets go beat those hoyas!!

Comment by pitt-for-life 01.25.12 @ 9:56 pm

Woodall shows that he can drive and shoot, or drive and dish…it’s a deadly combination on offense, and even players that have been inconsequential on offense this year, benefitted from Woodall’s game tonight.

Now if we could only muster some defense. Just a little…

Comment by Lou 01.25.12 @ 10:04 pm

we win!

Comment by Tony In Harrisburg 01.25.12 @ 10:24 pm

Great shooting and toughness tonight.

Comment by Snala 01.26.12 @ 12:32 am

I had forgotten what that looked like. It was nice to get back to our old ways, beating teams we are supposed to beat.

Comment by Pitt Rob 01.26.12 @ 12:55 am

Jimbo is right.

As much as I dislike criticizing players for their play, I have to admit that Taylor is, as Jimbo put it, a bust.

His game IQ is not even at a high school level and apart from being tall, has no physical skills to apply on the court. He can’t shoot, he is frequently out of position on defense, he has a negative vertical jump, he isn’t aggressive and his foul shooting is in the Shaq category.

I would suggest to him that he play elsewhere next year. Sorry Dante, but anyone looking at a game film from this game would label you as a “stiff”.

Comment by SFPitt 01.26.12 @ 1:50 am

I actually think Taylor has skills, he lacks heart or street smarts or soemthing .. he definitely lacks strength and quickness

Comment by wbb 01.26.12 @ 7:28 am

It was nice to be on the “W” side this time. Let’s hope this win becomes infectious. HTP!

Comment by MariettaMike 01.26.12 @ 8:26 am

Taylor is a role player and nothing more, and we should just move on. Next year, I’m guessing he’ll be Adams’ primary backup with Gilbert getting time, and Zanna sliding to PF. Adams’ inside presence should really help Pitt in a lot of ways, even beyond his scoring potential.

Comment by velvil 01.26.12 @ 9:05 am

@pitt-for-life

I agree with putting JJ at the PF spot, but it’s not going small…it’s actually the opposite. JJ is 6’6″ — Nas is 6’5″. I think JJ is working just as hard as Nas, has much more upside, and can actually shoot free throws. I appreciate Nasir’s heart and effort, but he’s just too small to play PF and doesn’t have the skill set to play SF. So, I’d love to see more of Woodall, Giggs, Lamar, JJ, and either Zanna or Gilbert at center.
