Time for another Volvo Challenge. Reminder, keep voting for me. I’m not worried about getting the most votes, I just need to have a presence to have a shot.  This one could be considered a bit more obvious in the marketing side.

Create the Ultimate Pitt Volvo S60 — How would you customize a Volvo S60 to show your school spirit?

I’m okay with this, because it isn’t like I haven’t thought about what I’d like my Volvo S60 to look like and the little extras

Let’s start with the basic appearance. Now, tempting though it may be to get a custom paint job with Royal Blue and a Mustard Yellow Pitt Script on the hood, that just isn’t realistic for me. I’m a little too low key for that. So the whole racing stripe addition for that 70s-retro look is as out as custom Wannstedt Camero.

So here’s the basic car.

You can design your own vehicle at the Volvo site.

This was the final set up  chose.

The Volvo S60 comes with Sirius radio so I’ll be able to catch the games even if I’m driving somewhere.

It’s a nice car, but it needs the right touches.

Obviously it needs some tweaks.

Unfortunately, I live in Ohio, so they don’t offer Pitt license plates. Instead, I’ll have to settle for a license plate frame.

I’m a little torn on the floor mats. Nice enough, but I don’t really like the idea of wiping my feet on the Pitt logo — well after some games I would have probably enjoyed it.

A very underrated addition is a trailer hitch. Obviously, not for pulling a boat or such, but for the overflow materials for a good tailgate. Just useful to have one, plus it gives me the excuse to get the trailer hitch cover. Preferably one that offers functionality.

I don’t know about anyone else, but we’ve had tailgates where too late we realized no one remembered a bottle opener.

And obviously this for the drives on game day.

But the most important thing to go on the Volvo S60 is a simple decal that belongs on that small little window on the rear passenger side — that says it all.

Hey Chas, cast my vote for you a week or so ago.
However, just went to the site at Volvo again and while attempting to submit another vote, I could not get it to register. Seemingly one vote per customer. Correct, or is there any way around this?

Without junking it up to much, how about some nice gold pin stripes. (not mustard, gold). Nothing huge, classy thin ones.

You could also gold plate the volvo badge and line going through it, the area around the fog lights and grill.

I’m reserved myself, looks beautiful just the way it is.

Just wondering, do they want you to “junk” it up and make it a Pitt car, or how you would actually like your car??

If it’s how you’d like it, sounds like you got it right.

If they want it a little Pitt, and a little yours, then some gold accents would work. If done tastefully, they can really be done without looking gaudy.

Both Dokish and Alby Oxenreiter reporting that the new LB coach is Mt. Lebanon coach Chris Haering.

Haering played LB at WVU, graduated in ’89 … same year as when Chryst was grad asst (FWIW, they went to NCAA title game that year (88-89) with Major Harris .. lost to ND)

I’m watching the Wisconson Oregon game. Wow, a lot of offence, 28 to 28 at halftime. Yes, I heard about coach Chris Haering, but I see I wasn’t the first to hear. Haering has been coaching here for a long time and knows all the other coaches and should have a good handle on the local talent and the programs in western PA.

Ref: was Chryst just drinking a beer and dipping? I’m watching the game and swear I saw it… then googled it and found this..wtf?!

Don’t care either way. Certainly dipping, but, really now, it’s hard to confirm his beverage a beer; that would be a very, very, very pale ale. Nevertheless, supposing it was beer, I like him even more now. As for his smokeless tobacco, I like him more again; he is certainly what Pitt needs.

Not being facetious here either. No problem with any of it, albeit I’d have a little more to say if one presumed beer became two or three confirmed beers calling the game.

Comment by Neil 01.02.12 @ 8:02 pm

Hey Chas, what no tasteful Pitt script? Maybe across the hood, with a dan Marino or Tony d autograph underneath? Or a ‘stache hood ornament in tribute to… Aw, never mind.

Comment by Velvil 01.02.12 @ 8:12 pm

well, since Chryst will be on the sideline next year, he’ll have to brown bag it

Rudolph ate it, and that was f*kd up.

Comment by Neil 01.02.12 @ 8:30 pm

Would you guys please let the dipping and supposedly drinking beer go…I doubt the guy is drinking beer, too many people around for that… Chewing snuff, no big deal! Quite being negative!

Comment by Jason 01.02.12 @ 8:38 pm

1.5 seconds = 2? Botched call. Good game.

Welcome to Pittsburgh Paul Chryst.

Comment by Neil 01.02.12 @ 8:42 pm

I liked the play calling by Chryst. hopefully Pitts offense looks like this sooner rather than later

Comment by pk 01.02.12 @ 8:46 pm

Neil, clearly Chryst had nothing to do with the spiked ball that was 3 plays into the drive and that’s on Wilson.

Comment by pk 01.02.12 @ 8:47 pm

they only scored 10 points in the second half! chryst is awful!

jk, erase that one INT that killed them and wisky probably wouldve won

Comment by deepelemblues 01.02.12 @ 8:48 pm

welcome to Pitt mr. Chryst now get ur ass moving with a staff and recruiting haha

Comment by pk 01.02.12 @ 8:48 pm

Was just checking some of the UW fans tweets…good to see that Pitt fans aren’t the only irrational fans out there.

The UW offense put up 508yds and 38 points and their fans are criticizing Chryst and blaming him for the loss…how about the defense getting a few stops? Also, you can’t fumble a ball and turn it over when you need to score almost every possession.

Comment by sweet caroline 01.02.12 @ 8:51 pm

pk: I really couldn’t tell you either way.

Comment by Neil 01.02.12 @ 8:55 pm

“how about the defense getting a few stops”

yeah, when your defense is allowing WRs wide open looks on deep crossing routes, it ain’t your offense’s fault if you lose

Comment by deepelemblues 01.02.12 @ 9:01 pm

Paul C, Welcome to Pitt! Tough loss in the Rose bowl, but nothing to be ashamed of. It was an incerdible game, with exremely impressive offensive performances by both teams. Glad to have you aboard and wish you the very best.

Comment by Justinian 01.02.12 @ 9:23 pm

That “beer” could very well be any one of a number of energy drinks, most have a pale yellow color to them. Maybe it was a ginger ale? I’m perfectly fine with the dip though. Actually, haven’t a few coaches been caught puffing away at a cigarette over the years?

Comment by Digdug(Formerly Dugdog) 01.02.12 @ 10:00 pm

That energy drink or fruit juice he was drinking is old news. Some clown posted that the day before he was hired. Hoopie, troll, more than likely.

Now if it had been drunko Holgy, there would be no question what it was.

Wisky’s last 4 possessions resulted in an Interception, 3 plays for 4 yards and a punt, a fumble and then running out of time.

Eeh gads, I thought I was watching a Tino led team there for a moment. Just kidding 🙂

Comment by Emel 01.02.12 @ 10:19 pm

chas you will have to artfully dress up the volvo more than adding these clings and crap to it. what about “ghosting” an image in matte of the same color as the body of the past Pitt greats all around the car? nice….can someone on this site photo shop an image for chas? help the brother out!

Comment by Pitt it IS 01.03.12 @ 2:44 pm

it better look good either way. the georgetown or depaul chick can just pose over the hood and get all the votes!
