Open Thread: USF-Pitt

As I indicated earlier. I’m in limbo. No chance to get to the game. Not able to watch tonight because of shuffling my work around for Rosh Hashana.

Hopefully Pitt pulls of the stunner on the Bulls.

Woohoo….woohoo….woohoo…woohoo..

Tino is the Man!

haha

Comment by EMel 09.29.11 @ 11:31 pm

Where’s that big goofy smile now Skip?

Comment by PittStadiumShuffle 09.29.11 @ 11:32 pm

@ EmMel. I hear you man, but I’ll tell you what, the way we bounced back from two heartbreaking losses to beat a ranked team. A convincingly ranked team. That $#!t builds character. and IF they don’t take a step back…ahh too early to say that kind of stuff 😉

Comment by AtlantaPanther 09.29.11 @ 11:33 pm

Considering that was the first game I’ve seen- due to wedding commitments- yea! Hail to Pitt! Ray Graham is the beast you’ve all been saying he is. He bounces off opposing lineman, great player to watch.

Comment by Rieur1114 09.29.11 @ 11:34 pm

Yous all can thank Santo Trafficante

Comment by John Gotti 09.29.11 @ 11:35 pm

And that huge sigh of relief you heard was all the Pitt fans starting to breath again, after the fourth quarter. Thanks guys, great win!

Comment by Stfan 09.29.11 @ 11:38 pm

Trey Anderson better start next week or I’m not watching/buying tickets/donating…

/sarcasm

Comment by The Incline 09.29.11 @ 11:39 pm

I’m overwhelmed and stunned. Almost speechless!!

Tino, you looked like an excellent college football quarterback, you deserve all the fist-pumping you want!!

Ray Graham and Zac Brown, awesome baby.

O-line, unbelievable, finesse, smashmouth, whatever you wanted to do.

Harper, great job kicking.

Defense, fantastic. Awesome stuffing them and not getting any window dressing in the end!!!!

Coach Graham, fantastic game. Went to the “I” and played a little power football. Sent Tino under the center a couple times.

Had Tino wait until 3 or 4 seconds to have the snap and use the clock.

National TV, lots of props from the announcers on the team, the coach, especially Ray Graham, the city!!!

Big recruit today, going to the ACC, huge win………………………………

Best I’ve felt since 13-9!!!!! Hats off to all of you!!!

HAIL TO PITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Dan 09.29.11 @ 11:45 pm

E-mel, thought the same, easy to do, but, if those losses are part of the learning……….I’ll take it. Nope, not even thinking of those games.

Too sky high!!!

Comment by Dan 09.29.11 @ 11:49 pm

What’s up with that Coach Graham interview after the game; thanking God and then saying Hail to Pitt like he’s an outsider. Weird.
This collegiate team over the course of the past 10 years is the biggest enigma.
Let’s back this up next week.

Comment by Justin 09.29.11 @ 11:50 pm

What a TEAM Win….O-line really came to play,
D played great second half, specialteams looked
Good….. Tino and Ray were in sync, and coaches
Were ready.

From Kauai…

Hail to PITT (which even Coach knows)!

Comment by Oregon Panther 09.29.11 @ 11:52 pm

I’ve been a pretty outspoken critic of Sunseri, but even I was happy for the kid after this one.

And coach Graham needed this one too.

They both seemed pumped and a bit relieved.

Ok, we beat USFraud, now to beat Buttgers, and then some revenge on Utah!

HAIL TO PITT!!

Comment by Jimbo Covert's My Dad 09.29.11 @ 11:52 pm

Excellent point, USF other than ND, has played 3 scrubs and since statistically ND was all over them in that game, USF’s other stats and national rankings are all just an ILLUSION.

No reason at all after shutting down ND, we shouldn’t be able to shut down USF.

lol Jimbo Covert..

USFraud

Yes, next game we hit 50 points.

Comment by EMel 09.30.11 @ 12:00 am

Hey we freaking finally won on National TV, and we kicked ass on National TV.

Did that really happen? Or am I dreaming.

Comment by EMel 09.30.11 @ 12:02 am

Oregon Panther- IN KAUAI?!?!?!?!?! Man am I jealous. Definitely check out the ziplines in the middle of the island. And if you get a chance head to Tahiti Nui cocktail lounge in Hanalei. Unreal and they have the best T-shirts on the islands. And get me one if you’re gonna be at the Pitt-Utah game… I’ll meet you and pay you 3x face value for it. Im a large. Until then, enjoy paradise for all us suckers on the mainland.

Great win! HAIL TO PITT!!!!!!

Comment by Dan35 09.30.11 @ 12:07 am

Kauai has the wettest spot on Earth.

And it’s not at the MOTEL 6.

Comment by EMel 09.30.11 @ 12:14 am

Dan–won’t be at Utah game, but will think of you–probably have a Puka dog tonight, as we are staying in Poipu.

We had 32 first downs, gassed them out and owned time of possession, too.

Hail to PITT,

These moments of satisfying victory are so few and far between, I suggest we all get mrrred…

The past is past the future is now- 1-0 in Big East.

Voytik commit yesterday, Bisnowaty commit today, Shell & Mahone commit tomorrow????

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Comment by Dan35 09.30.11 @ 12:27 am

NIce…enjoy…Oregon.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt on Poipu Beach back in the 90’s. Beautiful place.

“Ray Graham did it all, even returning kicks for the first time this season. If he wasn’t making something out of nothing behind an injury-ravaged offensive line then he was making one-handed grabs on passing routes.

Even LeBron James was impressed. The NBA star called Graham a “beast” on his Twitter feed.”

…Hear that Shell????? Could be you…

Comment by Dan35 09.30.11 @ 12:30 am

Receivers, some excellent blocking down field.
Excellent tackles from too many D’s to remember right now.

Hey, USFraud or not, they came in with a swagger, and frankly, I don’t care if it was against the sisters of the poor….

Pitt executed one hell of a game plan. I hope it’s a case of the O feeling comfortable in the offense, because, you can see, when it does, it does gas the hell out of the other offense.

Were just tearing them up!! And on our drives, our D got to rest.

Only one game, but, friends, I’m gonna enjoy this one for a couple days. The team may only get the proverbial “24” hours, but, I’m takin’ “48”!!!

Comment by Dan 09.30.11 @ 12:32 am

Too bad Sufferin succotash’s son took one on the chin tonight. haha

All that hammering on Pitt by Holtz on leaving he BigEast, produced a lot of Bad Karma for his son tonight in the Burg. Maybe he’ll shut up now!

Stammering, stuttering, Lisping Lou

Comment by EMel 09.30.11 @ 12:33 am

other “defense”, sorry.

Some of you, who see me post a bit, know I have quite a few nephews and nieces of the nitter sort.

My one nephew down in Md. even texted in the 4th quarter, “think this is what you’ve been waiting for Uncle Dan, Pitt looks really good”!!

Woo Hoo, you’re not celebrating alone!!!

Comment by Dan 09.30.11 @ 12:35 am

One last one before I hit the hay, Dan35, don’t know if Shell will committ or not, but the one excuse we heard from media and fans alike of “well, he may not get the yards and carries he’d like in Todd Graham’s offense”, has totally been thrown out the window.

What’s Ray Graham have, 7 or 8 hundred yards in 4 games??? Like I said, who knows what’ll do, but, that is one reason that will not fly!!

Goodnight all!!

Comment by Dan 09.30.11 @ 12:38 am

Just got home from the game, Thank you Ray Graham and all Pitt Fam!

Comment by Yeahhhh Todd and Ray Graham 09.30.11 @ 12:38 am

Tino Too ! He lifted 1,000# from his shoulders tonight.

Comment by Yeahhhh Todd and Ray Graham 09.30.11 @ 12:39 am

Don’t know if you all noticed- Tino went into the end zone by the student section at the end of the game and did the screaming fist punch/throw about four times, emphatically and with extreme prejudice. Good for him

I am happy for Tino- he had a fantastic game not just throwing, but tucking an running when necessary, getting outside the tackles and throwing it away when necessary, and keeping the ball and getting some tough yards on the ground. No more QB controversy. This kid can do it if he keeps this up.

As they say: this is why they play the games.

Excerpt from the Yahoo article:

His solution? Give the ball to his do-everything running back.

Ray Graham did it all, even returning kicks for the first time this season. If he wasn’t making something out of nothing behind an injury-ravaged offensive line then he was making one-handed grabs on passing routes.

Even LeBron James was impressed. The NBA star called Graham a “beast” on his Twitter feed

Shit, now RG will be probably leave early

Wow. Not only did aliens replace the Pitt football team, they abducted all the usual Pitt hating commentators on the this blog too!

Comment by cnorwoodaz 09.30.11 @ 1:15 am

Its been a long time since I’ve been this glad I made the trip from from Columbus.

Comment by OhhowIhateOhioState 09.30.11 @ 1:25 am

Great to see the system finally work. A couple of terrible non-conference losses notwithstanding, we have to be the favorite to win the Big East. And even though the crowd sucked in numbers, those who were there were into it. Outstanding night.

Comment by Brian 09.30.11 @ 1:54 am

Patience, patience, patience.
I have been astonished of the progress this Pitt team has made. One could actually say that as a team, the Pittsburgh Panthers have grown from one week to the next
The Panther defense has held its two toughest opponents to 15 and 17 respectively.
The Pitt offense, as Tino actually suggested after the Iowa game, has improved each week culmuinating in a 44pt effort tonight against a fast USF D.
I was actually able to breath when the kickers took the field.
Moreover, the Big East wins vs ND(USF), NC State(Cincy),and Maryland(WVU), do not look as impressive after Pitt made their statement this evening.
The season and scheme are green. Lets practice patience this fall.

Comment by Justin 09.30.11 @ 3:29 am

The best way to silence the critics is as Al Davis said “just win baby win”.

I’m silenced (for now).

Several notables

Ray Graham is Big Time, (2 k ?)

Financially tino looked comfortable.

Todd Grahams coaching ID improved over 2 weeks. He had a lead in the fourth and played time consuming ball possession offense using the run, good to see that he realizes that you don’t keep doing the same thing for 4 quarters but coach the game. Iowa was exposed his weakness in coaching IQmbut e USF game showed hismstrength

Nice post. I study one thing tougher on completely different blogs everyday. It would at all times be stimulating to learn content from different writers and practice a little bit something from their store. I’d favor to make use of some with the content material on my weblog whether or not you don’t mind. Natually I’ll offer you a link in your internet blog. Thanks for sharing.
