UDFA Signings at Last

Congratulations to Dom DeCicco and Henry Hynoski. Now that the NFL Lockout is finished, NFL teams are permitted to sign undrafted free agents. Today is the first day that players can officially sign

DeCicco will get a chance with the Chicago Bears.

“I knew my time would eventually come,” he said, pointing out that waiting for the lockout to end was difficult.

“The only (thing) I can compare it to is when you play a bad game and you want that next week to come so bad so you can prove yourself.”

DeCicco, who played on one PIAA champion and two WPIAL title winners at Thomas Jefferson, said he had calls from the Steelers, Bills, Bears and Saints on Monday. He chose the Bears because they brought him to Chicago for a pre-draft visit and he developed a relationship with linebackers coach Bob Babich of Aliquippa and scout Rex Hogan.

“It made the most sense, even though they weren’t offering the most money,” he said.

Hynoski will take a shot with the New Jersey Giants — after a little debate.

Both of them played with a lot of heart at Pitt and wish nothing but the best. If they are able to find wotk here, that would make a possible 7 players from Pitt new to the the NFL (joining Baldwin, Sheard, Lewis, Pinkston and Romeus)

Two of the more overrated players at Pitt in the last 10 years. Good luck in the league.

not sure if they were underrated but of the 7 players who may end up in the NFL, only Sheard (and maybe DeCicco) seem to have played better ths past season than the prior one .. of course, Romeus was hurt

I’m glad they didn’t get stuck in Cincy.

Good for them! I hope they stick after the preseason. Im going to be interested in seeing how the Bears decide to use DeCicco.

Hynoski seems like one of those guys who will have a long and strong career in the NFL.

Great fit for both these guys! Hyno will be a perfect fit for NY. Too bad Dom didn’t get it done with the Steelers. Good luck to both – represent Pitt well!

Tough road for free agents, cuts down to the regular season end quickly many an aspiring college athelete’s hopes. At least they get a shot for the big time. Good luck, hope you guys stick.

Hynoski overrated? Seriously?

Are the Bears trying to keep DeCicco’s signing a secret?

BigGuy DeCicco is on both of those links that you posted…Maybe they were updated overnight. Undrafted FA signings usually aren’t put out there quite as fast because most people don’t care about them nearly as much, they care about the big names like Nnamdi Asomugha or Santonio Holmes.

BCPITT, thanks. The links were updated since my post. The Bears went from 19 signees to 26. Hopefully, the Bears will give Dom a full opportunity to display his abilities although it’s a numbers game. Obviously, we wish him the best. Given the opportunity, he’ll be fine.
