LiveBlog: Pitt-UConn

I’m stuck working so I’m doing the DVR delay thing.

Luke is handling the liveblog. Sorry about the late toss for this, but there were some communication difficulties. Gametime is around 7:30.

Moderated chat as always. Hopefully everyone knows the drill by now.

If you need to break out the chat, Click Here.

Is this sacriledge, if it is, so be it, “Hey, Billy Hillgrove, you are way past your shelf life too” “tired of listening to your apologetic, 5 seconds behind the play, mistake laden calls”, that’s for Steeler games. Move along “Billy”. And no, this isn’t tonights frustration, I haven’t been able to take Hillgrove for years now!!! Sorry, do I offend you, too bad!!!!!!

We won the last 3 games on turnovers. Our defense was not that great, has not been all year. Said it before, say it again. We look small, soft and weak on defense. We are constantly outmuscled, Dom DiCicco and a few other notable exceptions. Almost no pressure at all tonight on a lousy quarterback. Cannot even imagine what WVU will do to us. Let alone South Florida. And Cincy at Cincy?

Paraphrasing that Coors Light commercial with Jim Mora “Bowl Games? Bowl Games? Don’t talk to me about Bowl Games”

I believe it would have to be Johnny Majors. Yep, Johnny Majors III, coming to a stadium near you!!!

Very tough loss.

With nearly two weeks to prepare (though both teams had the same two weeks), I would have thought, we’d be well-versed in how to stop Todman…instead, deplorable D play.

Romeus was not ready to play, and not a factor—Wanny should have realized that during practice.

I didn’t think Cam did a bad job on punt returns, as he fair caught it when it could have bounded inside the five, and ran straight up the middle when he did run it. He also took a kickoff to the 45. So, Cam’s performance was actually, beneficial tonight.

I will still root for PITT as our remaining three games are all on national TV…but, let’s be ready to play, and ready to play to Win>

Hail to PITT!

A serious question….why would a talented high school player want to play for Pitt?
I believe that our ship has sailed and we will start to look like the broken down cruise ship with 4,500 passangers (our game attendance for next year). The cruise ship had no hot water, no air conditioning and as you can imagine the passangers rightfully complained about the STINKING conditions on board. Sounds like Pitt!!

The following are quotes from a Skip Bayless Sports Illustrated article. I’m no big fan of Skil Bayless, but the article seems quite appropriate right now.

“He was so approachable and likable — so down-to-earth, unassuming, good-hearted — that I ignored the truth. Dave Wannstedt was never cut out to be a head coach.”

“Now, I’m not even convinced he was anything special as a defensive coordinator. The tough truth: He was an overachieving offensive lineman from Pitt who was no more than a meat-and-potatoes thinker as a head coach. All he really had going for him was that he looked the part and, more important, that he was Jimmy Johnson’s best friend.”

“As a columnist for the Chicago Tribune, I closely followed Dave’s final two Bears teams. Nearly every conversation I had with him began with, “Geez, we can’t get a break.” His creativity began and ended with, “This week, we’ve just got to run the ball and play defense.”

“My lasting memory is Dave pacing the sideline and running his hand back through his hair — the tormented look of a loser.”

Last three games are on national t.v., so, we’re going to go 5-7 ????????? Bookie, bookie, where’s my bookies number. Does Dave know they’re on t.v.??????

Comment by DAN 11.11.10 @ 11:49 pm

Isnore, yes, that’ll be the attendance, but, it will be announced as 55,701 lmao!!!

Hoobestank, it’s spot on, absolutely effin’ spot on!!!! Hey, guys, I’m done, sorry for the posting, got no more energy, can’t find anymore humor, and in case anyone was wondering, no, not drunk, had two diet pepsi’s and some pretzels. Goodnight all!!

Comment by DAN 11.11.10 @ 11:54 pm

I hate this coach, this team, this program. I’m officially done supporting this crap, I hope we lose out, but knowing Dave he’ll do enough to save his job. What a choke job…congratulations Dave you are now officially 3-9 after a bye week… You are awesome! Better players, more time to prepare same pathetic results…all on national TV!!!!

Comment by Marco 11.11.10 @ 11:55 pm

It would be an interesting experiment….at halftime have Edsell walk over and coach Pitt for the second half and Wanny walk over and coach UConn. Is there anyone on this post who doesn’t know who would win in that situation??

Hey, at least the Ravens lost!! and it took a miracle to make that happen

Comment by Dan 72 11.11.10 @ 11:55 pm

O.K. no more football venting for me….come on Jamie develop your talented team and let’s make it at least to The Elite 8 this year!!

Comment by isnore 11.11.10 @ 11:56 pm

Too bad Dave doesn’t read this blog. I hate this team in so many ways

Comment by Tony Cancilla 11.12.10 @ 12:05 am

Can we just get a freaking “Championship” so he can retire with a false sense of accomplishment

Comment by Tony Cancilla 11.12.10 @ 12:06 am

Fuck this program. 6 years of broken promises and bullshit.

Comment by Hollywood 11.12.10 @ 12:21 am

folks,

I am not gonna go on a rant on this anymore. I said early and often this team would be 7-5 at best.

I said they would lose 2 Big East games minimum. My guess was that they would lose to a team they should be favored to beat (Syracuse,Louisville, Rutgers, UConn, USF) and they would split between games I thought they might be underdogs (Cincy, WVU).

I stand by that statement. They will at best be 7-5.

The reason I won’t rant because this is what Pitt is now. We all have to accept the fact that we will find ourselves disappointed or underwhelmed.

The joke of it all is that this team at 7-5 might still make a BCS bowl. How embarrasing the Big East is this year.

I have come to accpet the facts above. I will no longer get upset or frustrated with Pitt under this regime. It is what it is.

Who is kidding who? I told everybody who would listen, “Whanny chokes on the maint stage. Bet the ranch!” Goodness, what a loser. Another embarassement on national television. Thank goodnesss for thath basketball season is upon us. If Pitt wants my money and support, bdmp that quiter & loser Wannstedt! Until then, don’t bug me with football donations!

Comment by IowaPanther 11.12.10 @ 12:31 am

Now what is Wanny’s excuse after a week off? LOSER!

Comment by IowaPanther 11.12.10 @ 12:34 am

Money rules. My check book is has beeen closed. What an embarassement! But worst yet we’re REALLY screwed! What is Peterson going to do, hire another coach? Gee, with his stellar track record basketball is looking promising. Just give up! Good Job Pitt, you screwed the Pooch with Wannh …. AGAIN!

Comment by IowaPanther 11.12.10 @ 12:43 am

Wannstedt + Peteson = LOSER! Goodness, now what’s your excuxe? ASSHOLE! If this is the expectaton of the University, remind me: (1) not to waste my money and time on Wannhy & Peteson (2) the Univ. of Pgh. cause of their decison making! Wannstedy SUCKS! He’s twice a loser and once a quitter. Thank you Pitt for de-valuing my degree!

Comment by IowaPanther 11.12.10 @ 12:50 am

Pitt continues its streak of finding new ways to fall short of (continually lowered) expectations.

No excuse for losing to ND, Miami, and UCONN. ND and Miami have come under heat themselves this year and UCONN has this:

“Back to Frazer. He stunk early. Got benched down to 3d string. Then redshirt freshman qb Mike Box got hurt, Cory Endres couldn’t stay away from taking puffs and now Frazer is back at the helm. He’s kind of playing with nothing to lose at this point, so who knows.”

Enjoy that Scotch, Chas! I’m going for the bottle as I type…

Comment by Cool Hand Nuke 11.12.10 @ 1:51 am

I echo much of the disgust tonight. Like I said after the Miami game, I will be ending my decade long run as a season ticket holder. Enough is enough. Guys, its just a miserable experience to watch… keep it….

Comment by Pauly P 11.12.10 @ 5:02 am

A Wanny team not prepared?! I am SHOCKED!
