Football news has been less than sunshine, rainbows and unicorns this week. How about something from the basketball side?

The Pitt basketball schedule may not be out yet, but ESPN put out it’s Big Monday Schedule and it is highly Pitt-centric. There are 8 Big East Big Monday games, Pitt plays in three of them.

Jan. 17: Villanova at Connecticut, 3:30 ESPN
Jan. 17: Syracuse at Pittsburgh, 7:30 ESPN
Jan. 24: Notre Dame at Pittsburgh, 7:00 ESPN
Jan. 31: Louisville at Georgetown, 7:00 ESPN
Feb. 7: Pittsburgh at West Virginia, 7:00 ESPN
Feb. 14: West Virginia at Syracuse 7:00 ESPN
Feb. 21: Syracuse at Villanova, 7:00 ESPN
Feb. 28: Villanova at Notre Dame, 7:00 ESPN

In addition to those, before “Big Monday” officially kicks off, there will be three other Non-Big Monday, Monday games including UConn-Pitt on December 27 at 7:30. The one downside is that the Oakland Zoo will be on winter break.

Oops. Seems the full schedule for Pitt is out — big hat tip to PittScript for being on this.

In hopeful good recruiting news, Khem Birch took a visit to Pitt last weekend (Insider subs.) and took in the New Hampshire game. Birch is one of the top recruits in the class of 2012 (ESPNU ranks him the #2 overall player).

Birch and Notre Dame Prep coach Ryan Hurd traveled to Pittsburgh to see Hurd’s alma mater, the University of New Hampshire, take on the Panthers football team on Saturday.

“Khem has expressed a desire to take more ownership over his recruiting process,” Hurd said, “and obviously he has had interest in Pitt since Coach [Pat] Skerry left Providence, so this was a good opportunity for us to spend some time together and for him to see another campus.”

Skerry had begun recruiting Birch while previously an assistant at Providence.

“We had a great time at the football game and then Khem got a chance to see the campus and speak with the coaching staff,” Hurd said.

Birch has also visited Syracuse unofficially as well as Providence when Skerry was previously on staff there. Pittsburgh and Kentucky were two of the schools that visited Birch on the Notre Dame Prep campus last week, while Hurd said North Carolina and Kansas are expected to make the trip within the next two weeks as well.

Birch would be the biggest recruit Pitt has gotten since the days Paul Evans had John Calipari on staff. So wait and see. Especially if Kentucky is involved.

Ahh, a bit of sunshine, thank goodness. I needed it. I have to tell you, and no one should question my bleeding of the blue and gold, as I would not question yours, 25 years of season tix, away trips, hanging onto every word of possible Big Ten, ACC re alignment, posting on here for years. Gotta tell ya fellas, Pitt doesn’t beat Miami, don’t have much of an interest for the rest of the season. Again, please don’t question my loyalty, sat with my Dad at those 67-9 and 70-10 Virginia Tech and Ohio State games or whatever the scores were. For some reason, this year, the Utah game and the way we played for 3 quarters just took a toll on me. Maybe my fault buying into the over hype?? 6 years for Wanny, backed him, great recruiter, waning on him. Loved Cignetti last year, questioning…They have a shot to prove it to me. Go ahead boys, prove it. Also, as a building process of 6 years, don’t want to hear about Romeus or Mason, a solid program has people come right in without missing much of a beat. No excuses, just do it!! And no, that’s not a Nike commercial, that phrase was around way before Nike!!! lol

the season is two games in and some people are making ultimatums. win or lose the miami game and pitt can still have a great year. it is september 17th. don’t give up just yet. you will deprive yourself of a lot of fun in october and november.

It looks like someone jumped the gun on adding the basketball schedule to the “calendar of events” on Pitt’s website. It was not available under the “schedules” section, but was added to the calendar. It has now been removed from the calendar.

Rumor is that the schedule will be officially released later today.

Way to ruin a basketball post. Keep whining, that help a lot.

That’s all it took to ruin a basketball post???

A truer quote there has not been, “it’s not called whining, when it’s true!” I hope I’m wrong, I hope I watch a fantastic game, I will come on here and apologize, actually, apologize for what, now that I think about it. That’s what posts are, opinions??? I will be thrilled when they come out and look like a top 20 team and whip Miami. I hope for nothing more. Also, I told everyone, that it is my fault, I bought into all of the hype. Blame lies on me.

Geez, I was just joking about the keeping whining part. And whether it is true or not, it is still whining.

The full schedule has now been released:

I haven’t had time to digest it yet, but on first glance, the toughest part seems to come at the end. In February, back-to-back road games against WVU and Villanova, and a closing stretch of WVU (home), at Louisville, at USF, and a Saturday CBS game at home against Villanova.

Can’t wait!

Kinda like at work, if there is a true problem, and the employees keep “whining” about it, is it the employees fault for whining, or the managers fault for not addressing the situation?? Ok, this is old, I, and I’m sure hope they come out smoking on Thursday!!!!!

If we get Khem Birch, I’ll be happy as a clam. Go Jamie, Go.
