LiveBlog: Pitt-Indiana

Late game. Fun. Fun. Fun.

Trying to get the kids to bed. Just me, my beer, computer and the big screen.

The fun will start sometime between 9 and 9:30 depending on how long Butler-Georgetown goes.

I believe the main difference is this game was very obvious … Indiana finished its shots, and Pitt didn’t, WAY too many missed 2-footers … and , of course, the fact that Jim Burr refereed.

Had to bail halfway through the chat. My girlfriend’s laptop died so I had to choose between being online in the office or watching the game in HD. Obviously, the latter was more appealing!

This team is simply not there yet. I don’t know where they are, but it ain’t good.

Not much of a hand shake btw Jamie and Crean.

Sloppy offensive with a lot of jump shots, and allowed Indiana to drive or make cuts to the hoop all too often…a growing (pain right now) season…but hopeful tonight’s game was a lesson.

Hail to PITT!

Right now, we’re just a perimeter team. Not much going on inside.

We went inside and Nasir got schooled o-7.

I am a little confused as to why we were switching screens up top, I thought it killed us all night! I don’t know if that was planned or not. I thought J.J. Richardson was the only one who was out hedging screens up top. I still feel he needs get more PT at the 5 and Taylor forget learning that spot.

It helps if you have players that can hit open jumpers. Only Gibbs is capable of shooting the ball well. Being able to score/shoot can sweep a bunch of things under the rug. Pitt is struggling to rebound and play good defense and is having a tough time scoring. That’s a bad combination heading into BE play.

Ahh, I was just reminiscing. Four of the starters of Pitt’s 2002-2003 team scored, on average, in double figures. The fifth starter had a 9.7 average. My Indian friend says “Man, your team is in a heap of trouble”.

Not too much in the way of bright spots – the most disappointing aspect was the poor defense. The guards were consistently beat off the dribble, which led to open passing lanes and layups. If this team is going to have any success, this has to change.

I actually thought Taylor looked better in this game. He was more aggressive, both in terms of rebounding and shooting. He also seemed to be positioning himself a little better. It wasn’t pretty, but right now I’ll take any sign of progress. Unfortunately, McGhee really struggled on the ball screens, and his hands continue to be a problem. It will be interesting to see how minutes at the 5 get divided up as they get closer to Big East play.

Argh, Big East play…right now that just sounds terrifying. Still time to improve, though…
