I should be positive. I really should. Pitt cracked the top-20. It’s a good thing.

Dion Lewis, unsurprisingly, was the Big East Offensive Player of the Week and is that much closer to being a lock for Newcomer of the Year in the conference.

Dorin Dickerson went from not being on the watchlist to a candidate at the midseason mark for the John Mackey Award given to the best tight end. He’s the only player from the Big East among the 22 candidates.

Homecoming is this weekend, and it becomes a big game. So, the students have led a charge to “Turn it Blue” at Heinz Field.

Heck, money is even being made betting on Pitt.

W is for Wannstache Watch. I won money on an actual legal bet involving cash on Dave Wannstedt. How can something so wrong feel so right? That marks the first time I’ve ever taken a bet on Pitt to win, and has now converted me wholeheartedly into a Pitt wagerer. This is your sign to bet on the other team, because nothing that feels this dirty and wonderful can last.

That part of me that gets wary when too much good stuff happens at once is now screaming. I’m begging the football team and the coaching staff. Don’t miss another opportunity. Don’t let it go ka-boom.

This team is peaking at just the right time. Its going to be a wet game on Saturday and that can only help our passing game. It will be tough for the USF defensive backs to keep up with our receivers on a wet turf. Thats a key, because this defense is #1 in the Big East on stopping the passing game. If Stull has a good game this week, we’ll be just fine. Also, I’m not sure USF players are going to enjoy standing around for 3 hours in the wet, clammy weather that is usual for this time of year here. No doubt this is a pivitol game for the Panthers this season but it looks like the leadership of this team has it focused exactly on the task at hand. Sure would be nice to see them put 4 quarters together this week. Kinda like my golf game, when I put 18 holes together in a single round its magic, Hail to Pitt!

I think we win this one by slamming Dion Lewis and Henry Hynoski into USF’s front 7 early and often, until USF’s front 7 doesn’t want to be slammed into anymore and quits tackling well.

And THEN we hit them with the Baldwin/Dickerson stuff.

And don’t let their mobile QB pull a Russell Wilson on us. He’s a freshman though, so his passing game is not up to snuff. If we get a good lead, he’ll be forced to chuck it more than he wants to which should work in our favor.

Dion for Heisman!

since most of us aspire to design coaching strategy, here is my two cents. With Berry back (I believe), I would replace Gruder with Fields in the nickel package which would be used frequently. Fields would be assigned to spy on the USF QB who will probably hurt us more with his legs than his arm.

Let’s turn it into a REAL home field advantage by supporting the team even if it trailing, and things do not appear to be going well (like Stull throws an interception). This team has a chance to do much more than we thought coming in–with one of the top running attacks in the country, and a very eficient passing attack. Who thought that Bill Stull would rank right up with Tony Pike statistically at this point of the season. If our D can use its speed, and tighten up in the secondary, this could end up as a very good year. But I do not want to hear anyone talking about the poor treatment the Pitt team gets from its own fans despite being 6-1 at the time. Those days should be over. It is time to get fully behind this team, and root it on to victory.
HAIL TO PITT!!

a noble approach but unfortunately not likely to happen. I feel there are too many fans here, both students and adults, who actually think that booing is a way of showing off their football IQ as opposed to realizing the consequences of their actions.

Turn It Blue? It will be tough with all of those empty yellow seats shining through.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE support this team. With a win they will have the best start to a season since Dan Frickin’ Marino. When Rocky was losing to Apollo Creed, did the crowd boo – no they chanted ROCKY…ROCKY! A loud, supportive stadium will do wonders – look at the 4th quarter of the UConn game.

I plan to have no vocal cords by 4:00 Saturday.

a few other highlights: the line in the usf game has moved to pitt -7, and bill stull is currently ranked eighth nationally in passing efficiency.

Everyone Should support this team! I don’t understand why some of the fans put so much pressure on the team, esp Billy Stull. Do I want them to win? Absolutely but how does booing help? The team doesn’t intentionally go out and play poorly. We need to support this team. I was so proud of the fans who stuck it out with the team with 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. After the naysayers left Heinz Field was rocking. That was the loudest I have ever heard it for a Pitt game! We need to keep that up and have everyone join in, not turn against the team!

Hail To Pitt!!!

The only nickname anybody should be calling Coach Wannstedt is ‘Win-Stache’
