Perfect Score Winner for Rutgers-Pitt

An exact score winner this week. Brian made the pick and was dead on at 24-17.

Mark in DC was heartbreakingly close with a pick of 23-16. Something that will surely haunt him for weeks on end.

Sorry for the lost weekend. Had to travel and no chance to log-on. I’ll be back later with an abbreviated media recap.

As an FYI Pitt opened up as a 6.5 point favorite over USF.

USF game is scary due to the fact they came off a loss…. and we came of a “big” win.. only big since we lost to RU 4 years in a row.

USF will probably have a lot to prove.. since oct/nov is annual meltdown time for USF… same script.. get ranked.. jump out undefeated then lose the rest of the way out. SO they must have that on their minds.. and will have plenty of motivation.

I hope we can put some decent football together… we are playing ok.. and we are winning.. but playing ok will not be good enough for our remaining games…..

Hopefully the Cold weather at Heinz field will be an advantage for us over USF.

The only way I can see us losing this game is if BJ Daniels plays the game of his life…Which as we saw from the NC State game, we have a way of providing a forum for mobile QB’s to have the game of their lives…So the 6.5 spread sounds about right.

I skipped going to the game for a bunch of reasons among them terrible seats, the weather and being under it.

I just talked to someone who was in the Pitt Section and he confirmed that the seats were awful.

But much worse were the Rutgers fans. They cursed and picked fights. They threw containers of ice into the Pitt Section. I’m told it got so bad that Security Guards had to ring the Section.

Can anyone who went confirm? If this was the case I apologize for my fellow Jerseyans because I’m sure they won’t.

I was at the game.. and when waiting online for the shuttle bus to take us from the RAC to the stadium.. we had some drunk rutgers fan.. not only cut infront of us in a line…(that was extremely long) but then continued to talk smack and tried to pick a fight.

That was a first.. i have never had somebody cut infront of me then proceed to make fun of me at the sametime…lol.

I remember Rutgers fans acting like total a-holes at Heinz Field in 2006. It sort of reminded me of the young guys in the nfl that need to jump up and down, do a dance, flex their muscle, etc after they make a tackle or score a td. Then there are guys like Jack Lambert that would knock someone on their ass and walk away…act like you’ve done it before. Obviously this winning thing is new to RU fans. Someday Butgers will have some class, but then again it is Jersey …would you expect any less?

Coach, if I just knocked the ball out of an opponents hands on 4th down after a huge hit, I would dance too. It doesn’t mean that I’m a thug, it just means that I love what I am doing.

Then again you have most old school football players that acted like men but that era was one that can never be again. If you love sports and can’t respect that time, then you are missing the point. So I definitely see your point of view. There is nothing like an old school Middle Linebacker.

But, I would take an emotional 19 year old LB over one that just walks away after a big play. Nowadays you have to pump up your defense and show hope in different ways. The game is very diverse now and you have to find a way to bond with people that are different than you. When you make a big play touchdown and celebrate, everyone can understand that it is a “good” thing.

As for the Rutger’s fans, that is unfortunate but it doesn’t surprise me. Drunk + New Jersey + favorite team losing = Time to drive to NYC and pick a fight with someone from Long Island. That is at least from my experiences and I have had plenty of them growing up in Queens and Long Island. At least they are showing passion for their team. If they didn’t then there is no point arguing with a tourist.

I don’t think this USF season counts as a big letdown like the other ones.

Why? Because we’re still not sure how good the Bulls were in the first place. Even with the Cincy game (where they got smoked), they have one of the worst schedules of all Div 1A teams. They played one decent team, and lost by more than two TDs.

They were ranked by virtue of being 5-0, and beating a team with a good name (FSU, who sucks this year). I went over this all at the end of the Rutgers post

So, we still don’t know if this is a good team coming into Heinz with a chip on their shoulder after a loss, or a fraud that we should be able to beat.

The mobile QB scares me, but I think we may be able to pound it up the gut on them.

I was at the game and sat in the Pitt section. There was some rowdy behavior in the lower section and I saw a security guard escort one person out. I stress “one”. There was an idiot that kept coming over to our section to mouth off. He must have been in his mid-fifties. At one point he referred to himself as an “AH”. Enough said. We tailgated in a Rutgers season ticket lot in full Pitt gear. We had zero problems and mingled well with the Rutgers faithful. Of course, that’s ths difference between the RAC lot and a season ticket lot I suppose. The seats weren’t any worse or better than Pitt gives to opponents. I sat in almost the same relative spot for NC State. Rutgers does not allow opposing bands at their stadium and therefore the PITT NJ Alumni Club’s effort to get us all to sing Sweet Caroline at the beginning of the 4th quarter was a difficult task. But, who cares– We WON, That’s all I care about

..you’re correct Chas. Didn’t sleep last night and this will probably bother me until at least the ND game.
