Actually something of a good get in terms of potential and need in terms of depth. Eric Williams is a consensus 3-star recruit. Rivals.com lists him as the #23 recruit in PA. He’s a wide receiver and safety and there is no question that he was wanted by Pitt to play on defense.
Williams (6 feet 3, 210 pounds) chose Pitt over Temple and also had scholarship offers from Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Akron and Kent State.
Some schools liked Williams as a receiver, but Pitt wants him as a defensive back. He could also grow into a linebacker.
“There was a reasonable amount of schools recruiting me as a receiver,” Williams said. “I feel comfortable on both sides of the ball. Whatever comes doesn’t matter to me. I just want to be on the field.”
His size is excellent for a safety. Plus, Pitt does not have a lot of depth at safety — especially with size.
“UTEP coach Mike Price had hoped his team could start the season off with a win, so that when they faced Kansas in the season’s second week, they’d have a positive to build upon.
A narrow loss to Buffalo that ended with a potential game-winning touchdown wiped out by a penalty wasn’t quite what Price envisioned.
So, instead of being 1-0, the Miners enter their game with the nationally-ranked Jayhawks still looking for that first taste of victory.
“It was a little rough,” Price said of the team’s 23-17 loss to Buffalo. “Saturday night was rough, and Sunday you could hear a pin drop in our meetings. They knew they had a chance to win this game and felt like they made the plays on the field to win, and let that one slip away.”
Dropped balls, errant throws, bad snaps and a botched catch on a kickoff plagued the team against Buffalo.”

These are the type of commits that Pitt must continue to pursue since they are not competitive (at least lately) for the 4-stars …. and there is some recent success here (Otah & Romeus both started late.)
