Honestly, news of a foot injury to Jermaine Dixon in July would not normally be a huge concern. It’ two months (8 weeks) out of action. He’ll be back before practices even begin. Dixon has shown in his first season that he is well-conditioned and it shouldn’t take him too long to get back into shape.

Of course what gives pause is this ominous factoid.

Pitt doctors are very familiar with the injury. It is the same injury that forced former Panther guard Levance Fields to miss a portion of the 2007-08 season.

The dreaded fractured fifth metatarsal on Dixon’s right foot. Something that nagged at Fields for a while and kept him from getting in shape through the summer as well.

Hopefully Fields’ experience will remain the exception and Dixon will be back and ready to go.

was his foot broken when he let scottie reynolds get behind him?? still bitter…

Thanks.

Where do you guys see him fitting in this year with Gibbs and Woodall?

USA U19 men won again early this AM. Beat Canada 93-73 and play Croatia, I believe, next in semis. Gibbs was not among the top scorers although the team made 16 3’s. No boxscore was available when I saw the story on USAToday online.

Gibbs started at PG and lead the team with 24 minutes, but scored only 2 points, went 1-5 from the field, 0-3 from three, 0-1 from the line, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 0 turnovers 0 steals.

IMO, Travon will be the starting point, or getting a starter’s minutes, “eventually.” Probably not to begin the season and possibly not by the start of BE play but, perhaps by BE Tourney time, and without doubt, I believe, by the start of the 2010-2011 season.

I don’t think either will be a starter at PG next season. That will be Epps. By all accounts, he is the real deal.

Mark–Dixon will not start a freshman at PG from the getgo–too much chance of excessive turnovers. Even if Epps is outstanding he will have to earn his minutes and becoming the eventual starter by flawless play off the bench. I doubt that could happen any earlier than BE Tourney time (March 2011).
