Looks Like a Transfer

I had to go back and check about the name. Andrew Devlin — once a local top TE recruit Pitt wanted but chose Virgina — is apparently desirous of transferring to Pitt (behind subs. paywall).

Devlin would be a redshirt sophomore at Virginia. While he played in all 12 games last year, he had a total of only 3 catches. Ultimately, UVa moved him to defensive end.

If he is actually transferring to Pitt, I’m assuming it will be to play TE. Pitt seems rather set at DE, plus he doesn’t strike me as the kind of athlete Coach Wannstedt wants at that spot. At TE, there would be opportunities after sitting out as a transfer. With Dickerson and Byham graduating, the main competition would be Mike Cruz and Brock DeCicco.

Chas,
I would assume its to play TE too. I didn’t read anywhere why he is transferring, but on his bio on UVA’s website it says he was playing TE, even started a game last year and then was moved to DE late in the season. It sounds like he maybe isn’t to thrilled to be playing DE and sees himself more as a TE.

Has anyone heard anything on Toney Clemmons lately. I remember reading an article a few months ago that the former Valley star was leaving Michigan but didn’t know where he was going to transfer to. He said he would consider Pitt and WVU. With two sister’s having attended Pitt you would think they’d have a possible shot at him. Has there ever been any updates on this.

hehe, Virgina.

Haha, remember when West Virginia won the NIT and the shirts said WEST VIRGINA ? That was classic.

Anyway, GREAT looking Mock Draft from Chad Ford now that the lottery order is set:

Two Pitt first rounders would be PHENOMENAL!

Never mind, saw he ended up choosing Colorado. Kind of a strange choice of a school in the end. Don’t know if Pitt or WVU even went after him the article said he chose Colorado over Cincinnati, Connecticut, Oregon, Oregon State, Rutgers, New Mexico, and Arizona State. Just an odd list of schools, especially to not have Pitt or WVU in there.

At least one more transfer is finalized with another potential during the Summer to join the Pitt team. Will need to sit out a year in both cases (same as Devlin), but decent players.

Who’s the other potential one during the summer?

Comment by Yinzer 05.24.09 @ 8:37 am

One is Colin Larmond (WR, Boston College) and the other one is deciding between Pitt and two other schools prior to transferring. Both would have to sit out a year, similar to Devlin.

Larmond has ties Shakim Phillips, who Pitt is recruiting extremely hard. As a receiver, he was pretty impressive in high school and has good size and speed. If you watched the Music City Bowl this past season, he caught a pass and took it over half the length of the field for a TD. He is a good pickup for many reasons.

There was a BCer on one of the boards denying that it is Larmond transferring. He claims that it is a false rumor. If correct, the other BC transfer speculation has been Chris Hayden-Martin who apparently might be finished playing FB due to injury. If this is the case, I doubt Pitt would offer him anything more than the opportunity to walk-on. I just can’t see a ship being offered to a player with likely career ending injuries–assuming that is also true of Hayden-Martin. But, who knows what really are the facts. We will simply need to wait and see.

Devlin made it official yesterday, he’ll be at PITT and eligible in 2010.

[…] expected, he sees the opportunity to compete for the TE position after sitting out this year. Pitt keeps stockpiling some talented and highly sought TEs. Hopefully […]
