Where to Watch in a Crowd

I’m seriously debating locking myself in a small, dark room with a TV and laptop. If you are more social than that, plenty of other metro areas have places to be with other Pitt alum/fans to watch.

If you are in Boston, it starts early.

Pitt Pep Rally/Pre-game Event
Thursday, March 26 – 4 p.m.
Johnnie’s on the Side
138 Portland Street
Boston, MA

Located just two blocks and an easy walk to TD Banknorth Garden.

With performances by the Pitt Pep Band and Cheerleaders and a special appearance by the Pitt Panther Mascot. Special Panther drink specials and complimentary appetizers (while they last!).

All of the following came from the Pitt alumni calendar:

If there are any other gatherings. Missed or impromptu, be sure to leave them in the comments below

Cleveland (thanks Pauly P, one of these times I’ll get down to join the crowd)

Bob Golic’s Sports Bar
1213 West 6th (corner with W. Lakeside, Warehouse District)

FYI

For fans in NYC area, the Uconn game is in the same window so if you want to be able to watch Pitt, you need to go to a bar.

Or watch on NCAA.com. I’ve been very impressed with that service. A couple seconds delay, but otherwise solid.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.26.09 @ 11:34 am

Ya, in NYC, worried that they’d be showing mostly the UCONN game. Thanks for the helpful info on the gatherings.

For those in NYC, does anybody know if they play the games with the commentary/sound at Pourhouse?

Comment by TJ 03.26.09 @ 11:58 am

In NYC – the sound will be on loud – it’s a great setup. I believe we’ll be in the back room. It’ll be apparent when you get there as there’s a lot of Pitt people who come.

Note: Giordano Bros in SF is also the Primanti’s clone started by Jeff Jordan, former Pittsburgher, and you can get anything on the Primanti’s menu while watching. (And its REALLY good, obviously.) There’s also a bunch of Pittsburgh sports memorabilia on the walls. Parking in North Beach sucks though.

Pitt fans in Cleveland

Golic’s Bar on West 6th & West Lakeside (Warehouse District) is the place to be for all of you Clevelanders! We have a nice group coming down with good food & drink specials. They have aDirect TV feed so Pitt game won’t be cut off by CBS.

Where should one go in Harrisburg?

Comment by Shawn 03.26.09 @ 12:38 pm

Is it 7:27 yet? How about now? How about right now?

Comment by Brian H in Brooklyn 03.26.09 @ 1:42 pm

It looks like those of us in the DC area will be able to watch on the local CBS:

So Chas, sounds like you want to set up a little “Fortress of Pittitude”?….

Yes, in NYC, WCBS Channel 2 is posting on their website that the UConn game is the one being broadcast, with cutaway to other games. Guess they need to satisify the sweater tied around the neck crowd…

So now I need to plan out my beverage of choice for the evening as I think I’m going to connect up PC to the TV, move away the cocktail table, and watch at home. I’ll save all the gravy games for public viewing, as now I need room to fist pump, stomp, roll around, and possible throw things. I think I’m going to step into a bottle of Brooklyn Local 1 (link to brooklynbrewery.com) in honor of our Brooklyn-bred point guard and his O-faced Sports Illustrated cover.

What are other people going to be imbibing?

Comment by SilverPanther in NYC 03.26.09 @ 2:06 pm

Great call SilverPanther, just bought a Brooklyn Beer Party variety case yesterday with that same thought in mind.

Comment by jason 03.26.09 @ 2:32 pm

Pitt boy who is unfortunately stuck in Philly.

I always have decent luckat:
Fox and Hound (15th and Spruce)

anyone else in Philly here?

Comment by diskoe 03.26.09 @ 2:39 pm

Brooklyn Lager here. What is Brooklyn Local 1? Have not seen that yet.

If they make it to the Final 4, think I’ll have to switch over to something from New Holland Brewing, although I may only be able to get 22 oz. bottles – not a bad thing, I guess.

Comment by Carmen 03.26.09 @ 2:44 pm

Wow, SilverPanther, a Belgian style that’s 9%. At least you’ll have something to dull the pain should the unthinkable happen…

Comment by Carmen 03.26.09 @ 2:47 pm

Public promise: They make it to Detroit, I send out a bottle to Chas first thing Monday morning…

…By the way, I forgot to let Mrs. Wanamaker know that I apologize in advance for any eccentric, hyphenated explanatives I might hurl in the heat of battle at her son when I’m hopped up on a champagne-sized bottle of 9% ale (Thank goodness my neighbor speaks no English). I’m a fan of his, believe he has truly improved. He’s a fighter, a winner, and gosh darn-nit, I like him. …and I know he can kick my ass. Just don’t miss any freakin’ layups and don’t throw any half-assed entry passes!….Ok, ok. Serendity now. Serendity now….

Comment by SilverPanther in NYC 03.26.09 @ 3:11 pm

In Joisey too – the sound will be on loud – it’s a great setup. We’ll be in the back room.
