Polls and Power

The national rankings dropped Pitt to 3 in the AP and 4 in the Coaches. The only thing more absurd than seeing Pitt voted #8 by two writers was seeing that one actually kept Pitt at #1. You can see the individual feelings from the writers. Shame we never get to see how the coaches vote.

The Power Polls were a little kinder. ESPN.com put Pitt at #3, only 1 point off of the #2 choice.

Gary Parrish at CBS Sports only dropped Pitt to #2.

I bet this guy Bill Riley who ranked Pitt 8th has never been east of the Mississippi:

Good thing is that we are now at the point in the season where we can totally ignore these polls..so who cares how the idiots vote..Wish we could do the same with BCS poll near the end of each football season.

A win on Wednesday I think gives them a #1 in the tourney.

the only thing that disturbs me about the 2 writers who voted Pitt 8th is that they both had Duke higher … obviously, they are not paying attention and voting on reputation (even though Duke has not got past the 1st week in NCAA for past 2 years.) I even have no problem with the writer from Minn voting Mich St 5th — yes, it i provincial but I’m sure you get that from BE voters also.

saturday’s game turns into a huge must win for both us and uconn, as the loser could end up on the outside looking in of the #1 seed…if louisville wins out they would at least share the reg season title…if uconn wins vs us they would at least share it as well, leaving us in trouble…then it comes down to who goes the farthest in the tourney….although i cant see them seeding uconn higher than us if we sweep them during the season…..

gotta love this and it all starts tomorrow night….

meh…really doesn’t surprise me…you got the Gottlieb types out there who won’t believe until Pitt is a Final Four team.

I think it’s pretty damn cool that it is only the lunatic fringe anymore that feels this way now. and while it’s a bit of disrespect…I remember the lean years even now…and how I treasure the type of teams Dixon has built over the years.

If you want to call me a Pollyanna that is fine, but folks the fact that our expectations are so high says it all.

Can you believe we actually are a bit slighted by folks that put us at 8? Go back 10 seasons ago and this program was left for dead. Now we discuss outlier buffoons 🙂

That is good stuff…

Rumor has it that Dick V will be calling the game on Wednesday

ESPN’s Pat Forde has a round up piec that mentions Pitt – Blair, Fields and Young. My favorite part follows – “Little man behind the big man: Point guard Levance Fields takes care of the ball the way Westchester Kennel Club members take care of their dogs. He hasn’t had more turnovers than assists in a game since the 2008 NCAA tournament.” link to sports.espn.go.com

Before we look ahead to Conn… we have a a big one wed… could lock up the double bye in the BET.

im looking for mcneal to have a big game.. considering how he stunk it up against ville…. he is going to come out hot against us…. hopefully jermaine locks him down.

Gottleib likes Pitt this year actually

Dickie V doing the game?? Thank God I’ll be there and won’t have to listen to his “color” on the broadcast. I think we have to win the last 2 regular season games and at least 1 in the BE tourney to get the #1 seed. We get no respect from the committee…

Whatever happened to Stuart who posted on this site in previous seasons? He was often over the top, but always entertaining.

The fact that sportswriters have any effect on who can play in the BCS title game or gets into the NCAA tournament is insane to me. I was a sportswriter for four years and the majority of them are numbers guys. They have enough trouble offering insight on the teams they cover, but expecting them to rank teams they don’t see is ridiculous. They also don’t have a lot of time to think about other teams, and I doubt they are calling around to see what other people think about teams. Remember when sportswriters gave the Heisman to Jason White over Fitzgerald…enough said.

I just saw a commercial for March Madness on KDKA in Pittsburgh featuring Jamie D. and Bob Pompeani (a TV sports guy, for those of you not living in the ‘burgh.) Jamie fills out his entire NCAA bracket with Pitt- cute!!

Agree on the Stuart absence…….he was so over-the-top that you couldn’t even see the top anymore, but I enjoyed it.

He’s the only person (think it was him….) who made me laugh out loud reading this site…… with a snide comment about overweight female WVU/Alex Ruoff supporters tilting the bleachers at a Greentree summer league game. Awesome.

The commercial sounds funny – can’t wait to see it. The ironic part for me is that I often talk trash with some friends from Austin, TX (I used to live there), and one of the things I was thinking of doing this year was sending a mass email telling them that Pitt was so good that they should pick them to win every game, even the ones they aren’t playing in…

I’m still here…just don’t post as much. Sorry. Part of it is i just got tired of repeating the same things and debunking the same myths, and part of it is there hasn’t been a lot that has gone on recently. Pitt’s winning, no inside information to share, etc. I can’t really add much to the discussion right now.

Plus when they use that stupid flash thing for game posts, it ruins it. I hate that thing and wish it would be discontinued. If i miss a comment i can’t go back up and look at it without it jumping around with every new comment, they’re not out here to read like normal comments, etc.

PS. People complained about that comment about the WVU girls…oh well…
