I’m going to get blasted for this but, I don’t think Bostick played a bad game at all…Starting your first game of year in front of 80,000+ hostile fans is no easy task. First, I thought that Bostick showed a lot of poise in the pocket. Other than the first series, he did not seem rattled at all. He directed players around on the field with a good sense of command. I have watched this game twice. Did he light it up..no. Is our offense designed for a QB to light it up…No. For those of you that have the game taped, watch his first interception. Stop listening to the ND announcer telling you over and over how bad a throw it was, and watch what happend to Dickerson on the play. He was held with two hands, both of which stretched his jersey (no call of course) and that is why he was not where the ball was thrown. Another one of his interceptions, while a bad throw could have been caught. His throws had plenty of zip on them too (once nearly taking Baldwins head off). His delivery is still too slow, but the hitch move seems to be gone. Should he start over Stull, hell no. Might he some day be a very good starting QB for us, I think it is very likely.

Hopefully Bostick gets better and is solid in a couple of years. I’ll give him credit, he made a few nice plays. 3 interceptions is not a good statistic.

It is a fact that 3 interceptions go into the game stats. But lets not put all the blame on him. Had the line blocked better on one and had Baldwin fought harder on the other, which can be blamed on Baldwin’s lack of experience, Bostick only has one interception.

I don’t understand why everyone is so down on Bostick.I think we need to be positive about this win. No he isn’t perfect, but how do you feel when Stull throws up a shitty pass that is intercepted. The same way as when Bostick does it. None of our QB’s are going for a Heisman, but they are trying to get the job done…and yesterday, Bostick DID lead the team to a victory and he deserves credit. I know Shady and the D also played a big part, but we should give the QB some credit here. I feel like a lot of people on here are not happy unless they are complaining. Be happy with the W.

Can we not talk about the quarterbacks anymore? You are all staring at the toilet comparing two turds – neither of them are good. That being said, they both battle and Pat did what was needed to win. If you think Pitt won in spite of him, just think what would have happened if Smith stayed in. Sunseri or a recruit needs to be the answer NEXT year, not Stull.

I think Cavanaugh deserves credit this season as well. I hate him (and hated him after Bowling Green), but he has called some great games this year and seems to be adapting to the college game – after 4 years. If you want to dissect a position, please look at the secondary – they are horrible, starting with Berry and DiCicco. Taglenetti should be on the field much more.

You folks are overstating my case — of course I’m stoked we beat ND — when is that ever not great? I’m just saying, as alot of others are, we were fortunate and would have probably beat them by 2-3 TDs if Stull was in…no guarantee of course, but he’s turned it on lately. No question Bostick plays as best as he can and I’m not knocking the kid’s character…just saying he isn’t starting QB material at at top program…which I assume we all want to be — not a program that dips in and out of the 25th ranking. No question he’ll get better with time and experience, but he won’t be a Brohm, Ryan, or White, and that’s what we need to challenge in a major BCS bowl. It sounds like Sunseri could be very good, so I’m eager to see him get some PT.

The point made by the so called negative, complaining, Bostick bashers is Pitt will never be a consistent top level team with QB’s of this caliber. Yes, it’s a proven fact that you’ll occasionally upset a top rank team, but more times than not, you’ll disappoint the fans and embarrass the program with losses to the Bowling Green’s and Rutgers’of the world. Millions are payed to QB’s in the NFL because of their importance to a quality football team. Wannstedt has yet to realize that fact, or has he. He had the good sense to play Bostick in the Rutgers game and hence shorten his stay at Pitt. Pitt needs a QB that can do more than handoff and manage a game. Just think how dangerous Shady would be if we had a real threat at QB? Furthermore, who has the guts to rely on Bostick or Stull for that matter to bring you back in the fourth quarter. Notre Dame is average at best and that’s why the field goal battle in OT worked out in our favor. Conner Lee is the real deal but our QB’s have a long way to go to even be average.

Bottom line, Pitt was the better team than ND. They are better conditioned than the Domers. ND had five players who stood out to me, The QB, WRs, and #s 28 and 95 on defense.

It doesn’t matter how many 5* players are on their roster, they are not [right now] a good team. BTW, I think Pitt was caught looking ahead to ND last week and got caught with their pants down last week.

If Stull starts the remaining games, Pitt will win out. I would tear up the contracts of Weiss, Bennet, and Gattasuo [ok I butchered it]and give all a pay raise. I would not want to lose any of them.

In other news, Pitt is ranked again in the AP poll at 25th. WVU is 20th and Cincinnati, L’Ville and SF all received votes.

Yeah, I think we should also reiterate that although Pat threw a couple really bad passes, the pick to DD was a ridiculous no call.

Bostick is probably not the future (I believe Tino has a better feel for the game) but he did QB two of the most important wins inrecent Pitt lore. And even in losses (Rutgres and Louisville, he engineered late drives to put them in position to win)

The trouble with being a Pitt fan is we will be probably as nervous as hell next Saturday since this a home game we should win. L-ville coming off an embarrassing loss and Pitt from an emotional win, and back in the rankings … heck, we don’t have a snowball’s chance in winning this game!!

dixon and gibbs looked good tonight and Trey woodall was lights out. Wanamaker has his confidence in the right place and Mcghee put up double figures. Granted it is Seton Hill, but I like the fact that reserves can produce this year and we have more then one true point guard.

Best live football game I’ve ever seen. The stadium just kept getting quieter, and quieter, and quieter, then silent when it was 24-24.

Bostick got better after a couple series’ into the game. For all intensive purposes, it was his first game this year. Whether anyone likes him or not, he qb’ed a winning game.

It’s not fair that he gets all the blame when his receivers have yet to show up. 2 of the 3 picks hit the hands of the receiver FIRST. Granted, he was throwing them too high. But how many missed opportunities were there because of the receivers? O’Derick Turner=butterfingers. Where was Kinder, only 2 catches?!?! The tight ends, nowhere to be seen.

Baldwin is the real deal with jump balls. Now it’s time to see those 10-15 yard routes to the middle of the field.

They were nowhere to be seen because the quarterback is simply not that good and doesn’t find people like Stull does. It is clear that Pitt is an extremely talented team. They must be to have pulled of an away W with their subpar quarterbacking. If you want to know how unintimidating Bostick is at the QB spot look back at what happened at the end of the game. Weiss went for it on fourth down in his own territory I believe with less than 1 minute left (or close to it). This sent a message loud and clear: We are trying to win and I don’t care if you get the ball because I know your QB can’t move you 20 yards when we know he is going to have to throw. This is practically a suicide move if the Panthers have a decent QB and one that no coach would call. Pat went out and proved old Charlie right by promptly throwing a pick. Yes, he won the game. But let’s be honest, he did a lot that could’ve lost the game. LeSean McCoy and carried that team on his shoulders (with a lot of help from Connor Lee). Looking forward to what Billy can do this week against the Ville.

Manure…of bibical proportions. When the kid gets used to playing in front of huge crowds and a sophisticated offense..compared to high school..he will be FINE. Brilliant point about those passes hitting the hands of receivers. If you can touch it..you should catch it. By the way, these are someones children. They are young men still finding their way in the world. Even if their play is sometimes less than stellar I think it is over the top to call someone the “worst quarterback ever” etc. It serves no purpose other than to let the poster vent..over a game he didn’t play.

What I can’t believe is that there’s a “Bostick’s a Winner” Post Gazette headline. Pitt won that game in spite of Bostick. I’ve rarely seen a performance that bad from a Div 1 QB. The overthrows, the lack of mobility (my favorite was with about 5 minutes left when he was scrambling right and he dove for a yard without a defender anywhere near him) and the strange footwork in the pocket (I think his feet are just too slow and it keeps him from getting poised and stepping into his throws)……..he shows you nothing that would make you think he could succeed in this position.

We’re all happy about beating ND because we all hate the Domers (and Tom Hammond and Pat Haden), but Pitt beat ND (and WVU) by overcoming this kid.

I don’t know if Sunseri’s the answer, but I hope he gets a fair shot next year. Stull has come on a little and played his best against Rutgers, but he’s barely competent and isn’t as talented as some of his offensive weapons.

I guess what brought it home for me was watching Clausen throw the ball. Weis got conservative in the 2nd half, but by that time we had seen what it’s like to have a QB that can wing the ball on out patterns to the sideline or can move a little and knows when to dump it out of bounds rather than taking a sack.

I would love to watch a team with Pitt’s weapons (McCoy, Porter, Baldwin, Byham, Collins etc. etc.) get led into battle by a QB with some skills.

Can’t argue too much with what you’re saying about Bostick. But his game stats would be completely different if 2-5 throws were caught or even incomplete (not picks).

I’ve just never been a big Stull fan. I heard his stats in spring ball were the best in recent years at Pitt. But he still has more interceptinos than touchdowns (5 to 4) and has yet to throw 2 TDs in a game.

It’s the same with both Bostick and Stull. There’s bright shining moments of potential and then there’s plays they make where you ponder poking your eyes out. I’m frustrated with having a qb who on a good day won’t lose you the game, not one who can win if for you.

I hope you’re right about Stull having a big game against Louisville. We need a strong showing to contend for the Big East. Maybe seeing your backup win a game on the road will light a fire under him.
