We can’t stop the run against ‘cuse?! Really?!?!?!? I am shocked and furious at the same time right now.
Iowa found something with Thatcher last week and the Cuse continues the pounding. He allowed himself to get sucked up and picked ont he TD.
DW - how’s that mousetrap workin for you??
This is embarassing. Completely embarassing.
2nd down: Run up the middle for 0 yards.
3rd down: False start. Incomplete pass.
Punt. Rinse and repeat. It must be so hard to gameplan against that explosive Pitt offense.
fire Bennett, get someone who knows hoew to attack!!
“We read and react.”
“We didn’t execute.”
“We didn’t create any turnovers.”
Hail to PITT!

Long Drives + Field Goal = 2-2 (0-1)
Let’s go defense.
Hynoski came across at full speed a the end there and destroyed thomas’s eight leg…hit his leg inside out…we’ll see if he plays again…it could just be the pain, or it could be season ending…guess we’ll find out later today… Nix, time to step up.
Glad to see more of Baldwin, still surprised to not see any Cross.
Hey, we are 3-1 with a big game Thursday. if we can pull out a victory in Florida, next up is navy and rutgers, two winnable games.
Stull has shown no improvement over the first 4 games, he missed open targets all day long. Oline looked pretty solid.
Pass defense needs some work, Fields got beat but it was a pick play that got hung up in, Berry looked shakey all day long.
Otherwise 3-1, anyone going to the game in Tampa thursday?
Iowa lost to Northwestern today!
A win is a win….need to put together a whole game of intensity though!
Duke destroyed Virginia. Maryland upsets Clemson. Navy upset Wake Forest. Alabama is destroying Georgia. Ole Miss beats Florida in Gainesville.
Wisky gave up 20 fourth quarter points to lose to Michigan. Northwestern is 5-0. Bloom is off East Carolina’s rose…they lost 41-24 to Houston.
Cincy needed a 48-yard field goal midway through the 4th quarter and then had to hang on to beat Akron by two.
I wasn’t surprised to see Syracuse come out flying because I figured this was almost a last-gasp game for them. Don’t forget, too, it was right around this time last year that they went down to Louisville and beat the Cardinals doing a lot of the same things they did today. I also wasn’t so surprised to see Pitt come out a little bit flat (that early-game atmosphere felt like they were playing the game in a mausoleum), but I was surprised that it took them as long as it did to wake up and get a sense of urgency.
I said on another board during halftime that if Pitt would’ve lost this game, it would’ve been rock bottom for the Wannstedt era.
I have to say, though, I thought the coaching staff as a whole did a nice job in the second half making some adjustments. Bennett seemed to have the LBs attacking more and it put pressure on Syracuse’s O-line to make their correct blocks. I think they held Brinkley to just 22 yards rushing in the second half.
And I have to give credit to Cavanaugh for opening things up enough to keep the Orange defense honest while still sticking to the gameplan. As it was pointed out above, as much as the gameplan drives us nuts sometimes, Syracuse’s d-line was clearly gassed in the fourth quarter and a lot of that was due to the relentless pounding of the ball up the middle (McCoy had something like 96 yards rushing in the second half).
Consequently, I think our defense works the same way. The d-line got better as the game went on, just as they did against Iowa. Romeus and Sheard were dominant in the second half. Gotta do something about the secondary.
All in all, I’m happy that they’re 3-1 heading to South Florida. I said at the beginning of the year that I’d be OK with 3-1 at this point, and I’m happy with it. Four more wins and the bowl streak is over. Five more wins and we hit what most people believe would’ve been a good year for this team - eight wins and a bowl game.
