BlogPoll Ballot, Week 3

Another funfilled week of life in the top-25.

Rank Team Delta
1 Southern Cal
2 Oklahoma 1
3 Missouri 3
4 Georgia 2
5 LSU
6 Florida 1
7 Texas 2
8 East Carolina 2
9 Wake Forest 2
10 South Florida 4
11 Penn State 2
12 Auburn
13 Utah 2
14 Wisconsin 2
15 Brigham Young 6
16 Ohio State 12
17 Texas Tech
18 Alabama
19 Oregon 1
20 Kansas 2
21 Vanderbilt 3
22 West Virginia 3
23 North Carolina 3
24 Connecticut 2
25 TCU 1
Dropped Out: Arizona State (#8), Fresno State (#19), UCLA (#23).

I knew I had Arizona State overrated, I just didn’t realize how badly until I actually watched them struggle with UNLV. Having typed that, I’m sure they’ll now go out and beat Georgia when the time comes.

On deck to move into the poll: Iowa, Boise St. and Virginia Tech.

BYU’s 59-0 win over ranked UCLA at home was better than Utah’s barely win at the big house verses a terrible Michigan team…IMO

Hilarious, Chas. Everybody seems to be moving up…

Chris,

But what about BYU’s escape from Washington thanks in part to the unsportsmanlike call after the touchdown.

Comment by Chas 09.16.08 @ 11:44 pm

I like your poll, but there’s no way Auburn should be in the Top 20 right now. They won 3-2!!

Comment by Jamie H 09.17.08 @ 12:11 am

Chas, if you watched the BYU/Washington game you would see that BYU dominated Washington, but turned the ball over once at the goaline and a couple more times on Washington’s side of the field. They are clearly a better team than that game at Washington and the 59-0 (it probably could have been 90-0 if BYU didn’t shut it down midway through the third quarter) win verses a team that beat Tennessee and was in the top 25 one week prior is pretty darn impressive. But I understand why pollsters would punish them for escaping at Washington (mostly due to a celebration penalty that shouldn’t have been called, but that BYU rightly took advantage of)

What? Are you a Nittany Lion fan now? Beating up Syracuse, the worst team in the PAC-10, and a FCS school that was a branch campus of South Carolina without a football program six years ago makes Penn State a top eleven team? Besides, didn’t this same Penn State team play pretty much that same Ohio State team (with all the same starters except Gholston) in Beaver Stadium last October? Or are last year’s results automatically erased when somebody actually gets the nads to schedule a PAC-10 team tougher than Oregon State?

Looks like the mens bb team will get their BE championship rings during the Iowa game. At least that is worth going for, if nothing else.

Pittsburgh Sports Insider reports Pitt hoops has received a verbal from JJ Richardson out of Texas. Sounds like he is a banger with a non-stop motor. It would appear that with Richardson and Dante Taylor they will have some interior firepower to replace DeJuan Blair when he makes the leap to the next level.

And speaking of hoops, from ESPN:

Pittsburgh
It’s hard not to envision the Panthers as a top five team nationally. Overwhelmed by injuries all season, Pittsburgh rolled to an improbable Big East tournament title on the emerging stardom of Sam Young. Unassuming off the court, he was a beast on it and his decision to return to campus should have been greeted with hosannas and hallelujahs. Mix in a healthy Levance Fields, powerful DeJuan Blair and the Panthers’ trademark nasty defense, and you have to give them the slightest of edges to win the league.

New Pirate schedule is out…looks like two games same day as Pitt next year..Youngstown St looks like another hot noon game with the Pirates having a night game the dame day…think I’ll skip that one..Pirates play afternoon game same day as the Navy game. So looks good for a Navy night game (or a Weds or Thursday game.)

I’ll have to agree on the PSU at #11…they must be for real this year, its not like they put up 30, 40, 50 points on a bunch of cupcakes at the beginning of last season like they did this season…

Wait, what?

Then again, its not like you made the same mistake last year…

Oh, wait, you did…
