I’m home, but with the kids. That means I can’t be liveblogging. Dennis is at the Pete.

Pitt is just not allowed to lose this game. The wife’s oldest brother is a huge honkin’ Ohio State fan, which is annoying enough. To have her other brother with direct bragging rights just cannot happen.

Halftime: Pitt killing right now. 47-24.
Or as Gus Johnson put it: Pitt’s not messing around.

Oral Roberts, despite having similar inside size, means nothing on offense. The Golden Eagles are continually just hung out shooting long jumpers.

Pitt is shredding this vaunted ORU defense, like they are nothing.

They are taking uncontested jumpers and just blowing past every ORU player.

McGhee has already seen some action late in the first half — and scored.

I expect to see Wanamaker in the second half.

So far, this is just the perfect game to keep only one eye upon.

oru looks spunky. I’m mildly concerned.

GB playing well out of the gate again.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 3:20 pm

GB again! This kid is going to be brilliant.

Comment by brian in boston 03.20.08 @ 3:20 pm

so far so good….they won’t hit deep 3’s all game…we control the boards, we win……gilbert is incredible…he’s going to be so good…

Comment by schoe 03.20.08 @ 3:22 pm

Just went 0-4 between Benjamin and Blair. Need to convert.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 3:27 pm

keep getting fouled keith..just make them

Comment by schoe 03.20.08 @ 3:28 pm

Keith following his shot… and drawing the foul – gotta love how hard he’s working.

Comment by brian in boston 03.20.08 @ 3:29 pm

Benjamin’s been practicing his free throws!

Comment by JS 03.20.08 @ 3:29 pm

chuck away oral roberts…we’ll just dunk all day..WOW gilbert!!! FIELDS!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by schoe 03.20.08 @ 3:34 pm

Wow. Nice little run. Keep up the intensity and maintain that killer instinct.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 3:36 pm

I hope that jarvis kid keeps taking three’s from the west coast and looking retarded while doing so, the rest of their guards take jump shots like my sister

Comment by bowman 03.20.08 @ 3:37 pm

Shucks. Sam picks up his second with 7:00 to go in the first half.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 3:39 pm

We’re wiping the floor with them. It is gonna take one HELL of an effort from anyone to stop this team.

Comment by Mike 03.20.08 @ 3:45 pm

They’re going to hang half-a-hundred on them before the half. I’m always a little nervous about games in the tournament, but they quickly relieved any fears.

Comment by Matt O 03.20.08 @ 3:52 pm

Have we ever scored 50 in a half before? Certainly has to be a first in a tourny game, right? Should have called in sick today…

Comment by Greg in Columbia 03.20.08 @ 3:52 pm

A first for us in a tourny game, rather.

Comment by Greg in Columbia 03.20.08 @ 3:53 pm

Yahoo Sports says it all….Pitt having a field day

Comment by mp 03.20.08 @ 3:53 pm

Wow. Great half of basketball. I’d like to see some better perimeter defense (ORU 41% from 3), but we’ve held them to 12% shooting on 2-point FG. Incredible!
I really think we need to come out amped. All too often we ease our foot off the gas and let teams back into games. Here’s to another 20 minutes of solid basketball…

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 3:56 pm

Blair picks up his third foul two minutes into the second half. Why is this still an issue 36 games into the season?

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 4:17 pm

Young picks up his third foul less than two minutes later. The Blair picks up his fourth. Not exactly how we wanted this to turn out. Time for some quality minutes from Biggs.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 4:21 pm

Make that 4

Comment by MelbaPlace 03.20.08 @ 4:22 pm

We have nine fouls so far. They’re all on our big men (Blair-4, Young-3, Biggs-2). Weird.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 4:27 pm

Young picks up his fourth foul with 12 minutes to go.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 4:34 pm

G. Brown might be the X factor in this year’s tourney. Points off the bench is going to be huge when our guys start picking up fouls.

Comment by MelbaPlace 03.20.08 @ 4:35 pm

In serious danger of losing all three big men to fouls. With eight minutes left, Blair and Young each have four while Biggs has three. ORU is in the bonus. Everything from here on out is a chance for them to score with the clock frozen.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 4:46 pm

I can’t wait to see Gilbert Brown next year.

Hell, I can’t wait to see Gilbert Brown in the rest of this tourney. He’s coming of age quite nicely.

The team looks disinterested up by so much with only 7 minutes to go.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 03.20.08 @ 4:46 pm

9-2 run for ORU. Lead down to 16 with a over six minutes left. Let’s go boys, regroup!

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 4:50 pm

Back up by 23, we have officially regrouped Dave!

ORU making a run here and there is to be expected with our foul trouble/lack of interest at this point and whatnot.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 03.20.08 @ 4:56 pm

keep playing like this, the skies the limit…….1 down

Comment by schoe 03.20.08 @ 5:00 pm

True. Just wanted them to put a stop to it — and they did. I still believe we need to, well, focus on our focus. It’s been great since the loss to WVU. But historically, we’ve failed to put the nail in the coffin and made games closer than they need to be. Not the case today. You have to be please with this performance.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 5:04 pm

1 down 5 to go

Comment by Joey T 03.20.08 @ 5:06 pm

Looks like Field’s finally got his stroke back!

23 pts, 4/7 from 3 point land.

Bring on MSU.

Comment by Ryan M. 03.20.08 @ 5:17 pm

That was nice. MSU should be a good game.

Comment by Joe 03.20.08 @ 5:22 pm

I don’t think Neitzel has played up to par this year and he’s still shooting 40+% from beyond the arc. If he gets hot, and our bigs get in foul trouble again, we could be in for a long day.
I’m going to savor this one for a bit, though, before letting my ingrained Pitt neurosis get the best of me 😉

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.20.08 @ 5:30 pm

I think Pitt picked up over 100 in the Sean Miller/Charles Smith era, just before losing to Barry Goheen and Vanderbilt in the 2nd round. Not exactly sure, though.

Comment by Kevin 03.20.08 @ 5:48 pm

the game is at 910!!!

Comment by schoe 03.20.08 @ 6:18 pm

ha…now it says 2PM…wtf yahoo…make up your mind

Comment by schoe 03.20.08 @ 6:22 pm

CBS says 9:10 for saturday!!

Comment by Fcuk Paterno 03.20.08 @ 8:16 pm

Yeah, beat Eastern Michigan 108-90 in the first round in 1988

Comment by Brian 03.20.08 @ 8:17 pm

Could someone please tell the middleagedwhiteguy announcers to quick using words like “hops”? It sounds silly, especially by the guy doing the play by play for the WVU game.

Comment by Z 03.20.08 @ 10:40 pm

The last two years the opening round games have felt like typical early-season, nonconference, cupcake blowouts.

Didn’t we kick the shit out of Wright State in the first round last year too?

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 03.20.08 @ 10:55 pm

There are conflicting times for the game saturday…ESPN shows 2pm and CBS & Pitt tRIB SHOW 9:10PM? I’m thinking CBS is correct since they are broadcasting the tourney.
