Geeman, Syracuse and Yukon are on record as against the divorce. Not sure how Nordy stands on this issue.

Why does everyone scoff at me again for suggesting the Big East is garbage and that we should do all we can to get out or organize a mass defection of the football schools to form a separate conference?

First of all, I know there are some current legal issues with the TV contract, the payoff for leaving, with the hallowed Big East name, with playing the hoops tourneys at MSG. IMO, none of those are insurmountable, especially with *cough* the brilliant legal mind running our university. But especially with the geeky moron in charge of the conference.

You have problems with the scheduling of the brawl? With the fact we need to schedule I-AA garbage because there aren't enough conference opponents? With the ass-smooching given to Notre Dame? With having jokes like Marquette and DePaul in hoops only (keeping us from playing each of our hoops rivals twice a year)? With the retards who blatantly, desperately were ordered to give WVU the Brawl last year (and don't think the garbage scheduling this year isn't payback in some way).

Got problems with all those things? Petition Nordberg (or more important, all the trustees, since Nordy apparently has his nose up Tranghese's arse) to get us out.

I'm not going to lie, tickets are expensive when you add up the cost of the donation and the price for the tickets. I'd rather have first level seats for half the games, and sell the other half to finance/defer the cost, then go to every game in the nose bleeds. Plus, scheduling doesn't allow me to go to every game anyways. To each their own... Hopefully i'll be at the game tonight.

I'm surprised at so many complaints about the Friday WVU game. That slot is highly sought after by colleges wanting to be on national TV. Thanksgiving Thursday and the following Friday are actually bigger then New Year's day is terms of program exposure in that it's not as saturated as the Bowl lineups are with multiple games on every channel.

As far as tradition goes - it means nothing to anyone outside of PGH really - what the PITT, the BE and Media are looking at are $$, pure and simple. But that said, the Thanksgiving & Friday afterward are as close to tradition as PITT gets. That's when all the PITT vs PSU and WVU classics were scheduled.

I find that the majority of student football fans are from the Pittsburgh area. They grew up watching Pitt, they hear stories from their parents, they've followed the program. Pitt has a lot of students from all parts of the state and country. I think that they have a harded time rooting for a team that they never followed and they don't want to spend their energy getting on a bus to watch a lousy team. Once they start winning it will change. Every student will tell their kids they saw Shady McCoy play in college, but that wont be the truth.

One of the most infuriating things I've heard this year was a Pitt student in line waiting to get into the Zoo. He was talking it up with the coach from Nova a few days before and told him he was from Philly and was secretly a bigger Nova fan. That is something I have a problem with. Whether you like the city or not, cheer for your school.

And the hits keep coming...The Lady Panthers take down the 13th ranked Lady Neers!!! Actually, I watched most of the game and it was very entertaining the whole time. As for all of the comments above about our students not showing up for FB games, I have posted here in the past that this is the most disappointing aspect of our attendance problem. However, in large part, I think the students just follow the lead of the fan base in general...IF big crowds are showing up, then they want to be a part of it; if the crowds is not there, then they don't want to be there. I'll keep going no mattter what, but for the so called "football town" of Pittsburgh, when it comes to Pitt FB attendance, the only cure that will work is the Al Davis treatment: Just win baby! It's a damn shame, but that's how it is in Pittsburgh.
