I think I like the tempo of this game. Marquette needs to go cold for a few minutes though. I would love to see Ramon, Fields and Benjamin out there together with Young and Blair.

Fields is looking rusty….not a complaint, just an observation.
Refs blew that goaltend at the beginning…and the one ref called the block (which it was) and some retard ref called a charge on fields… Aside from those 2 bad calls, i’m glad they haven’t rewarded the diving my MU, yet calling the real offensive fouls…

We just never match up well here. Quick guards kill Pitt. Agreed…I never want to see the zone again. 2-3 or 3-2 which was an utter disiaster.
The one battle I thought we’d win was inside, and we are getting hammered…we need to make them play ugly…like we do..

The slowness on D can largely be attributed to Fields, and when McGhee has been in the game. Fields should only play in the 2nd half if somebody gets in foul trouble. And we need to attack the hoop. Is Blair ever going to realize he weights 270 pounds??!! He has GOT to go strong to the hoop.

I mentioned above we were getting killed on cuts – i’m not sure why they stopped making them – maybe cause they can get more points just shooting all the wide open 3s? Our defense has been less than stellar. Pretty much everyone of our guys got burned once or twice, and after a slow start, MU started making their shots.
I have no answer. I hope Dixon does. If we protect the 3 point line, the get layups all day, and if we collapse, they’re shooting 3s all day.
I would like to point out when they were getting layups, we were in the game. Once they started getting wide open 3s, not so much…I say go back to making them drive, and not have 3 guys collapse, play less help D, and pray…
AND MAKE A GODDAMN OPEN SHOT. BROWN, RAMON, BROWN again…they’re going to give him that shot all night if he keeps missing it with noone with 10 ft of him… 1-6 from 3… They’ve shot SIXTEEN….luckily, they missed a ton, only 25%…i don’t think thats gonna happen if they keep getting those looks…
And why the hell is Young taking jumpers 1 ft inside the 3 point line? Is that considered a “good shot,” ever?
Right now it looks like Benji should play the entire second half…he’s our best player today…

PLUS – everything is a charge – we stopped getting charge calls and they stopped turning the ball over when they quit driving, and started hoisting 3s. I say guard the 3 point line and keep taking charges on the help d after the blowby…

Fields needs to get back into games, we need him to play the rest of the year…its not like we were going to kill them if he sat the whole game. I do agree he’s had several lapses on D – i think he’s trying to make things happen to much, cheating down trying to get steals, leaving his man on gambles, etc… He needs to realize he doesn’t have to “make up” for the time he missed, just play sound D, stop leavin guys open or let them blow by you to the hoop on backdoor cuts… Less gamble, more solid.

Pitt at it’s worst. No scoring,slow D, poor court presence…this one is over. This team was NOT ready to play. Looks like a HS team vs a college team.
We can’t blame the officials for this. We…sucked…tonight. We have these games once a month, so we just clench tight and eat pride.

Well, we really never had a chance. When you can’t make a wide open shot, the adjustment you make is take it inside. The refs have totally blown all those calls, and made that impossible, so we’re fuct. That caused everyone to quit on D…
…if i were marquette i’d stop now, or pray to lose in the BE tourney before they meet us. We won’t forget.

I can’t even get upset about bad calls or anything else at this point. It’s just f@#$ing god-awful, and the terrible shooting is just too much to bear. Sadly, I think this team is too dependent on Blair and he has plateaued, perhaps even regressed. He is timid down low. He needs to spend a day or two watching tapes of Tyler Hansbrough. He may be a spaz, but he never goes soft to the hoop.
And Gilbert Brown never even looks to drive – he just chucks up 3s. Our dependence on freshmen — in addition to the inconsistent shooting — is catching up with us.
I hate this.

Our offensive struggles are what worries me. We’re missing too many buckets up close. How do you fix that? What will this do to the team’s confidence level? Seems like the Duke game was a lifetime ago.

Its going to make them kill ND is what its going to do. We’re still Young, this is the up and down you get with 4 freshman. Oh well. Im more pissed with the awful reffing, if we were allowed to drive or back down a man, it wouldn’t have been such a blow out. We’re not a finesse jumpshooting team… And our kids get too emotional – you could see every bad call took a little more out of them, every missed shot… they quit again. We always show good effort the next game. And we have a week to be pissed off.

Refs had nothing to do with this debacle. HORRIBLE, DISGUSTING, EMBARASSING. I thought we were coming around but the effort tonight was just not there. We were out played in all phases of the game and had no answers. No DEFENSE and no OFFENSE.

Pitt seems to shot bad when the d plays zone and puts pressure on the shooters and we dont have time to shoot we are in trouble.We dont move the ball on the outside, two passes chuck it up they need to make 5 passes on the outside against the zone and then will get open shot. Out guards are bad shooter when someone is in there face.We dont go low with the ball very well, Blair is still young and doesnt take it to the hoop good and strong. Lets Go Pitt, I hope ND doesnt play zone,we are much better against Man to Man

Well, some game film is made to be burned…this they should watch once and burn.
Give Marquette credit…they looked like PITT earlier in the season–extra passes, setting screens, going hard to the glass, pushing us away from the basket, etc…..they looked like a mirror of us on a good day!
Nice to see Levance back…he just needs time to work back into the system.
Oh, well…off to the mountain tomorrow to get some skiing in….

Hard to believe we are the #14 team in offensive efficiency–we seem to go really hot (Providence) or really cold.(1-11 from 3 pt range tonite) Our defense is not near as good as in previous years. I think that the constant flopping and whistling that Blair is getting is taking its toll on him. JD has to get them to slow it down, make the other team defend for 30 plus seconds unless we get a great shot down low. I think that the lack of 5 on 5 practice is starting to show as well. We don’t match up well against quick guards–and we did nothing to slow down their fast break. We are not a top 25 team right now–we have to get things straightened out in the near future.

Sorry boys and girls but the worse may be yet to come. I am sure we will matchup great with ND and Louisville after what we watched tonight. Any team with quick guards and a decent big man will give us trouble. And be careful what you wish for because playing Marquette in the tourament will most likely be the end of the road for Pitt. The reality of the situation is: we simply aren’t that goooooooood!
