I simply think that the foundation for success at Pitt has been built and Dixon, more than Howland, is the architect. Eventually Pitt will be recognized as the house that Dixon built and he will reap all of those rewards e.g. lifetime job security, coaching accolades, sycophants like Dick Vitale, the court being named after him etc. That would be a lot to give up. Guys like Gillespie at A&M never had 5-6 consecutive years of success like Dixon has at Pitt. Howland left as soon as he had a little bit of success. Dixon has stuck around and will see the fruits of his labor very soon. That would be a lot to give to follow in someone's footsteps.
