AJ--IMO, Cross is here to either win the starting spot or to be the backup QB who runs the wildcat and/or redzone offense. He will battle it out with Stull and Bostick for #1 in the spring and in August. IMO also, if Bostick cannot win the #1 spot this year he will be redshirted (as he would have been last year barring the QB injuries) for further development--with the condition of course that should the QBs in front of him get injured he would come off of the redshirt. He then is the starter as a RS JR in 2010 and RS SRin 2011 (unless Stoudt beats him out). Stoudt is the QB to be developed for the further future. IMO, he redshirts for certain as a true frosh, plays backup as RS FR (2009) and maybe also as a RS SO (2010). Then, Stoudt is either beats out Bostick in 2011 or waits his turn until 2012 to start as a RS SR.

Just one fan's opinion. Take it for what its worth.

Truly amazing what one big win and one influential recruit can do. I did not think we had a chance with Hale but it looks 50/50 right now, much better odds that I ever dreamed. I at least have to admit I was wrong in thinking we stood no chance because we have it at the moment. His cousin(Saddler) has some tremendous push and not just with his teammates but around Western Pennsylvania as well.

If we get Houser and Baldwin to commit soon then our offense will look very attractive considering we have Nix/Jacobson and Pinkston(wish him a speedy recovery) on the OL, as well as Matha. The defense is going to get better. If you put Romeus and Hale on D it would make me happy. Caragein and Sheard will do good next season as well.

Let's hope Fields gets his act straight so he can play with Berry/Sticky Ricky and Chappel and DeCicco on the secondary. I'm sure I missed others but I can't think of any right now...sleepy.

PSU for years have brought elite talent from Western Pa. to their program. This year, they will lose out on the top 4 players and three of them look like their headed to PITT. I just want to remind all PSU fans

AJ you are partially on target in that DW and Cav have depth chart and once you redshirt Bostic you will have Stull and Cross competitng next year for the starter and backup positions. There is no clear #1. The third spot will be wide open and everyone else will either transfer or switch positons. DW is making a statement with these moves that he is not sure he has a starter yet and he certainly doesn't feel he has a #1 backup. He has vowed never again to be in the position he was in this year. It will be an interesting spring.

I believe if we had Bill Stull this year, we would finish with an eight an four record. This brings up the question: Why would Greg Cross and Zach Stoudt decide that they want to become Panther's? I'm a Bill Stull supporter and I think going into spring practice, he's the clear #1, Pat Bostic #2, Kevan Smith #3, Steve Malinchek #4, Spencer Whipple #5, Andrew Janocko #6. Cross and Stoudt must really be something else or they have a lot of confidence in their ability because we already have six quarterbacks, three or four of which are on scholarship. It now looks pretty clear that Bostic will be redshirted in 2008 and some of these walk on's may move to other positions or may transfer. Anybody else have an opinion on this?

Sam Youngs most impressive play of the year was at Washington at the end of the game, Sam slashed in from the right side and put in a left handed shot that was all NBA that got us the last two points of the game, so called game winning shot. I just hope Sam can do this game in game out during the Big East. GO PITT

Greg Cross will likely be the favorite to start - he's an experienced junior college QB who has a great arm and can run too! He looks pretty strong in the videos (see link - especially #3) - including a few long TD passes and some sweet runs! The guy should be able to enroll next semester and be around for all spring and summer!! You've got to check out his highlights - I'm pumped!! His body looks ready, he's capable of passing for 300 yds a game, or rushing for > 100 yds a game.

Ht: 6-foot-2
Wt: 204 lbs
Forty: 4.55 secs
Bench max: 250 pounds
Squat max: 385 pounds
Class: 2008 (Junior College - Dec Grad)

Do you think DW and Cav would travel to Kansas to find a back-up QB? No way! Check out the link!
If you look at the highlights of this guy, this is what you'll see:
1. He's got experience - and he can hit his 2nd or 3rd option WR.
2. He runs with power - through people as well as can juke people and change direction quickly.
3. He's got huge arm strength - check out the throw from the back of the end zone as he's being tackled - the ball goes 50+ yards to an open receiver.
4. When he throws to a WR down the sideline, he puts the ball on their outside shoulder (something Bostick struggled with all season).
5. These highlights will help bring in some of the WRs considering Pitt!

Rivals mentions that Cross talked to Pantherlair today - I'm not a member so I didn't get to see that - if someone has the info, please let me know what he said.

Hail to Pitt! Penn State Sucks! Joe Pa Shits himself - what an old bastard!
