Krauser Back At The Pete

Pittsburgh’s favorite pro hoops team, the one and only Pittsburgh Xplosion, have signed former Pitt star Carl Krauser. Krauser played over in Germany last year but will now experience “The X”, of which I wrote about at Mondesi’s House back in January.

Much of the story on the team’s website talks about Krauser’s accomplishments and how excited they are to have him.

“We are very happy and excited to have a guy of his caliber on our team,” head coach Carlos Knox said. “We are very excited to have him contribute both in the community and on the court.”

Krauser became the first Panther in school history to surpass 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists. For his career, Krauser finished ninth on the school’s all-time scoring list (1,642 points), fourth in assists (568), and eighth in steals (190). He averaged 13 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 126 games.

The Xplosion picked Krauser in the sixth round of the 2006 CBA College Draft. Teams own the CBA rights of their draft choices for two seasons.

Other former Panthers on the roster include Antonio Graves and John DeGroat. The season opener is Friday night at the Petersen Events Center. Be ready for Krauser mania — or maybe not.

John DeGroat, did this guy ever figure out how to play competitive basketball?

He was one wasted scholarship!

RW, I\’m willing to bet most folks will agree with you on that point.

Maybe it’s not the most impressive sports story of the day. But we’re STILL getting feel-good stories about Suzie McConnell-Cereal (or whatever) whenever she takes some low-grade job in hoops, the whole “She-Nit Does Good!” crap. If I can be bored by artifical hype whenever a Nit hoops player (a woman player at that) takes an unimpressive job, then I want at least equal time for some Pitt fellas.

pitt didnt get recruit Kevin Jones….he somehow committed to WVU…what the hell is wrong with him?

pittfan–Nice player (but not a superstar) that Pitt would like to have gotten especially after losing out on Vargas and having Dodson rejected by the NCAA Clearinghouse. There are several reasons why WVU won out–(1)late re-entry of Pitt into the contest for Jones while WVU was there all along (2)better opportunity for immediately being a starter vs waiting his turn at Pitt and (3)Huggins line of BS as to how he is somehow uniquely responsible for preparing guys for the NBA better because 17 of his former players went to the league.

Note–On this latter point, the reality is that when you recruit really well as Huggins does (gotta give a snake oil salesman credit where credit is due) you land some future NBA talent. IMO, the truth is any successful coach at a major program would have had essentially the same results vis-a-vis getting these 17 guys into the NBA. However, perception is reality and Huggins is going to beat his chest and use this card to sell recruits.
