Revis Interests Steelers

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin held a press conference yesterday and discussed many topics including Alan Faneca’s contract as well as the upcoming draft. Revis is nowhere near a lock to stay in Pittsburgh but the possibility is definitely there.

“He’s got a nice combination of size and speed, and he’s a young guy. You would imagine there’s a lot of football in front of him,” Tomlin said of the Aliquippa native, who declared for the draft after his junior season at Pitt. “He seems to have his head on straight and he’s a sharp young man, so he has a lot of things that are attractive about him.”

The Steelers don’t have a ton of places where they need to bring in a new player (and were probably one of the best 8-8 teams in NFL history) but positions like cornerback and linebacker might be in for some change. Look for both Revis and PSU’s Paul Posluszny to be very possible choices.

I also have a feeling Revis would love the opportunity to stay home and move to the locker room down the hall from Pitt’s.

i can see revis but i think poluszny will be just another run of the mill lb.

We never really got to see the full potential of Revis because he was never utilized correctly.

Steelers don’t need corners as much as they need some other positions (OLB, RB, offensive line). This isn’t a Steelers board, but picking Revis would be a strategic mistake.

Chas – congrats on the baby – Sorry its belated, but I’ve been really busy at work in recent weeks, so I haven’t had much of a chance to get my pitt blather fix.

the steelers will NOT take revis. they just dont take pitt guys. how many have been on the roster the past few years? back when everyone thought they were going to hire russ grimm i told everyone i could that it wasnt going to happen. they thought i was nuts, but i was right.

I was beaten to the Hank Poteat reference.

But yeah, it’d be nice to see the Steelers actually take one of Pitt’s GOOD players for once.

I don’t see it happening though, unless literally everyone else they want is gone when their pick comes and Revis is still sitting there.

Remember, the Steelers don’t necessarily have to draft for need and reach for guys at this junction, they can take the best athlete on the board, which Revis could very well be when they pick.

Being a Beaver County homer, I’ll take Revis in the first round and Puzluznutsky in the 2nd (I can overlook the Penn State thing because A. He’s good and B. He grew up right by me.)

Revis is the defensive equivalent to what Fitzgerald was to offense. Any time you have a player that is one of the top 2-3 at their position it can’t be a bad selection. Should the Steelers pick him if he is available? That is questionable but to say he wouldn’t fill a need is ludicrous. I’ve watched Darrelle since his senior year and he is good enough to step in and start at corner from day one. Oh and did I mention that he also could fill a need for a punt returner? Yes there is potential for Reid and Holmes but it would not hurt to have another threat for returns.

Poslusny (though a PSU’er) would also fit nicely. He reminds me of a bigger Jerry O. All he does is go to the ball and make plays.

Anyone that doesn’t fumble the ball regularly on punt returns would be an improvement for the Steelers. With the new coach, I wouldn’t pay too much attention to previous drafts when projecting this one.
