135 Days

With our season ticket renewal in the mail, it is officially time that we can start counting down the days until Eastern Michigan. I don’t care if this team had a bunch of blue chip recruits or high school bench warmers playing — there’s nothing better than spending a Saturday afternoon watching Pitt football.

Except for the occasional Wednesday night game…ugh.

Pitt fans are such WHINERS!!!!!

(Whoops, thought I was on a different site…)

Is there news about any possible Pitt commits or kids that may commit over the next few weeks….?

We have plenty to whine about. …speaking of which:

Is anyone else worried about the tailgating situation? Last year they made you park in order, instead of letting you do the usual first come, first served deal. It made it a big pain in the ass for us, since we tailgate with about 4 or 5 different carloads of people. Under the new system, we’d end up in 4 different rows. Complete bullshit. They really make you work hard to enjoy the game.

Right now there’s a ton of construction going on down there under the bridges, and they’re going to build an amphitheater in Gold Lot 2 sometime in the near future. We’re all gonna be pushed back further and further. WTF?

Shameless plug, but there’s a countdown timer on FansForScript.com.

I parked in Red 7B and they didn’t make us park in specific spots. Maybe that’s just the Gold Lots?

Nevertheless it’s only a matter of time before the city and the Steelers sell off every last lot around Heinz Field for development, save for one or two for the extremely elite. The city doesn’t want the hassle of cleanup and law enforcements during tailgates. And Steelers want the drunks to pay for their $8.00 beers inside. I’m not saying it’s wrong, it’s good business for them.

Hopefully they’ll at least replace them with garages to retain the spots (though I’m sure the city would rather people park downtown in their dream that they can promote downtown dining and carousing). Problem is, I detest parking at a large even in a garage (tailgating is next to impossible if not banned, but mainly for the abhorrent delay getting out of the garage). Not a whine, just reality in a big city.

Which means we’ll be back to the same parking and traffic situation that we had in Oakland in a few years … leading to the question that clearly IS a whine, but a legitimate one: why didn’t we build a new multi-purpose facility like the Carrier Dome near/on campus in the first place then? I’d think students and nostalgic alums would be more likely to attend crapper games like most of our schedules consist of now (not a WHINE, just reality) if they were on campus…

Neil, that is not right.

I have always felt they should build in Schenely Park

With the upcoming season ticket renewal deadline aproaching, does anyone have an update from Pitt on how many season tickets that have been renewed???

I also agree with the post about the parking. The rules in Gold lot 2 changed every week. Talked to Pitt and they said they have no control over the parking lots. My group is dropping from 28 to 21 season tickets due to the schedule and the tailgating issues that we had last year.

I don’t know anyone who went out and purchased season tickets this year, but I know plenty who have dropped them. This is mostly due to the weak schedule.

A couple new restaurants/pubs are opening up even as we speak between PNC Park and Heinz Field in the Del Monte building etc. Look to parking garages replacing the lots, and people encouraged/forced to hit the nearby pubs. Tax revenues, you know.
