4:30 Eastern tomorrow, Coach Jamie Dixon will be the interview on “Jim Rome is Burning” on ESPN. It’s expected that  he brings up UC-Santa Barbara in the final 30 seconds of the interview. Discussing Ben Howland should come about halfway through. The loss of his sister Maggie should be just after the Howland portion. That leaves maybe a minute to actually talk about the team.

Attention all college basketball fans. Turn on SportsCenter on Thursday morning and check out the highlights of the Ok. State-Texas game. Incredible.

Keith is right. Unbelievable game. Kevin Durant is really something. On another note, I really hope that the addition of Nasir Robinson does not come back to bite PITT in the ass. You have a team of class individuals and you add a kid who was suspended at least one game this year for pulling a Darrell Strong and giving the crowd the middle finger. He also punched throuh a glass trophey case at Widner U. during the Jameer Nelson Classic. This kid really needs to mature over the next couple months because that type of behavior does not fly on the PITT team (see Yuri D.)

I was thinking the same thing. He looks better than Melo did as a frosh and is way more rounded than Greg Oden. Will be even more dominating when he fills out. He can singlehandidly bail a team out of a tight spot.

That was a great game. Very tired because of it, but it was worth it. Durant is just sick. He is as quick as a point guard, but 6’10” with a great shooting stroke. Unstoppable. I would be so pissed if I were a Maryland fan, they could win the championship with him. This kid grew up something like 10 miles from Maryland’s campus and he ends up at Texas (who can’t win it all because they are too young at the rest of the positions). I really think they are cheating at Texas and in Columbus, OH.

Reed you mentioned something about steals in your previous post. Pitt’s players are taught not to gamble on D and instead to force bad shots. They are not instructed to reach and go for steals. This is one of the reasons, and the absence of a savvy veteran guard like Krauser, the steal number is low.

this team has impressed me with the way theyve bounced back after 2 tough road losses. However, they did play sloppy at the end of the Conn game and their defense tends to lapse at times. They need to just get a little more killer instinct and play smarter at the end of these games. They need that defensive intensity that guys like Page, Brown and Troutman brought.

Omar, thanks for that tidbit – and that’s a sign of good coaching, and of the players following that coaching.

I did notice that the PITT defense had good success at keeping the ball out at the perimeter, and thus kept UCONN shooting low percentage shots – but I gather PITT has prided themselves on low opponent’s field goal percentage historically. That helps if the offense slumps, which happens from time to time.
