Hoyas Offense: Nothing Great

Paul Zeise’s chat yesterday featured a question focused on tomorrow’s game against the Town of George.

slr: What does Pitt need to do to shut down Georgetown?

Paul Zeise: Well I think Georgetown does a pretty good job of shutting itself down. I mean the real question to me is what do the Hoyas have to do to shut down Pitt? I watched Georgetown the other night score 52 points in a loss to Villanova. They are not a very good offensive team and frankly i think they take one of their best players, Roy Hibbert, completely out of the equation with the offense they run. That Princeton style is great when you have a lot of players of similar skills — but when you have a talented 7-footer like Hibbert, you need to come up with ways to get him the ball more in a position he can score. They don’t do a good job of it and I think it is a reason they’ve struggled. There is just something missing with that team on offense and I think it is that the system doesn’t fit the talent.

I just figured we’d be able to get some Rollabannas behind the basket they’re shooting at. That would definitely distract them and shut them down. Just remember folks, let your Rollabanna whip itself back into scroll form when the Panthers are shooting.

The key to this one, Gray needs to have a double, double.

Levon has to contribute at least 8 points with 5 plus rebounds.

A few key fb recruits will be at the game, hopefully they come away impressed and give big dave a warm and fuzzy.

The key will be for everyone to follow their assignments on D and then rebound like crazy. The latter is my fear, especially as the game goes on. The way GTown rolls out waves of players will make our depth less of a factor than usual. They are athletic and we are not, especially in the lowcourt, which I fear will cause us big trouble on the boards. I really don’t have as good feeling for this game as I do the next two. I know everyone will cringe if we lose but taken as a trio, if we come out 2-1 we will have done OK.

Dixon looks like he fell out of the locker room hamper.

Sweats? Really? Couldn’t even pimp for a warm-up suit?

im usually negative concerning ESPN, but kudos to them for holding a solid SOLID gameday in the burgh….they really did a great job, the pieces were well done, and they really showed Pitt in a good light……the piece w/ rece davis/dixon was great, as was the bilas piece with the boys, and even the GTIII and Pat Ewing Jr piece was well done…………

GO PITT TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and smoking aces looks awesome…..cant wait for that to come out……

Wow!!! I’m super pumped for the game tonight– I just left the Pete from College Gameday– it was electric in there. Going to meet my brothers and dad for a little pre-game dinner then we’re off the the Pete for our big game. I feel the same way about the game as jimbo. I really do think it will depend on rebounds and defense.. let’s pray our guards are hot, esp. Ramon (which i think he will be) and Fields.. Graves has been driving to the hoop and really just playing better so i feel good!! let’s make those foul shots count boys!!!

In sports I never make a score prediction. Every game is like a painting that is made via inspiration. You just don’t know how it will turn it out. I will be rooting for Pitt!!!

Best part of the Game Day broadcast was the sign I saw near the end of it. It read: “Chuck Norris wears Sam Young’s pajamas!”

I liked that one, and the one about someone hearting Duke Lacrosse.

And my other favorite was, of course, “Save the Pens”.
